1.
There is a new luthier that makes basses like Wals. I'll try to remember the link... In the meantime if you're in no hurry you could put your name down on the waiting list for a new Wal. Don't hold your breath, though - it could be a while... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26299
There's some good news on that front... I was speaking to Paul Herman today and he says the new Wals are almost ready to go!
 2.
Aloha For some time I have been trying to find books of Dennis Dunaway's early bass playing with Alice Cooper but I can't find anything. Some of it I can play by ear, but not all. It would be great to find some sheet music of the Dennis Dunaway era - an under-rated player! I love that melodic lead bass style, sadly it's a dying art....
Absolutely totally agree with you about Dunaway, AM; he is as you say an under-rated bassist! Also agree with you that that sort of melodic lead playing is a bit of a dying art.. He contributed so much to Alice Cooper I think; song-wise, playing wise and arrangement wise... Fantastic! Got to say I've never seen any books either. He does have a website so you might be able to email him and ask him? Nik

 4. Just bought and Aphex Xciter pedal of Russ that arrived safe & sound today.. It's a really great fx unit, sounds great and is in really good condition so I'm very happy with it.. Got to say that Russ has been absolutely brilliant to deal with and is someone who I'd highly recommend to everyone here on Basschat! Cheers Nik
 5. That's quite a crop there Rich!!! Good luck with it all.. Just thought i'd chip in where the Groove is concerned and say that, having had one myself, I can vouch for the fact that they are fantastic quality basses for the money.. Your comments on the pick-up are spot on by the way.
 6. Cheers guys for those positive comments! Actually, I am considering putting it on EvilBay this weekend, though for obvious reasons, I always prefer dealing with fellow Basschatters given the choice.
 7. Justin has just bought my Nomad Bassman from me and just to echo the sentiments expressed above, he's a great person to deal with and I'd happily deal with him again! Great Basschatter and some really quirky, cool gear too... Cheers! Nik
 8. Thanks Justin - much appreciated!
 9.
LOL, you'd be keeping it had it been made in the '80s Shame you're selling it mate, it's a unique bass and one I've always wanted to own (however, as you know, I am now NoGasMan). It is a bargain price so I'm surprised it's still here (perhaps offer it on ebay to the continent or US). Good luck with the sale Chris
Thanks for the support and excellent 80's reference as per usual Chris!! You could be right in that Ebay might be the best place to sell this.. By the way, you probably know that the Nomad went to another Basschatter this week, so I am temporarily free of 80's FX units, which can only be a good thing!
 10. Love the look of the one at the back... What's that then?
 11.
Martin Kemp's original Wal was one of the leather pick guard ones which used to belong to Alan Spenner, who used it in Roxy Music. Kemp sold this Wal about 8 - 9 years ago; I saw it in the Bass Cellar, when he signed up for East Enders. It had the switches on the pickups and was one of the best sounding basses I've heard. Pity it was only a 4 string!
I remember when that happened. The leather scratchplate one was up for about £1100 or £1200 at the time! And I remember when he bought it from Wal for £500 in 1987 (god, I'm an old git!)..
 12.
I think you missed one small detail - the price?
+1 Always fancied one of these, ever since trying one a couple of years ago.. Fantastic basses for the money!
 13.
An amazing amp at a great price. These are real workhorses and incredibly versitile. Electrics are triple-engineered for safety and tone is incredible Nik- I thought you were keen on one of these yourself!
I am! It would be lovely to have , but....
 14. Good website and very nice gear by the way! Good luck with the sale...
 15. Good news Chris! You must enjoy it whilst it lasts! That is quite a sexy collection of gear you have there though...
 16.
Cab arrived this morning... S.P.
Very nice indeed!!
 17. Looks great! What sort of price is 'half the cost of a Sadowsky M24'?
 18. Slightly higher action on the B string might help?
 19.
Bargain Bump! Seen these go for £400..
B-U-M-P !
 20. Hi Folks, A couple of weeks ago I was having a discussion in the Bass Guitar Forum about ways to boost the output volume of my Fender Roscoe Beck bass and Leschirons (or Keith as he's known to his friends and family) suggested I should try out the Aphex Bass xciter as he used one with his Roscoe Beck... Anyway, as if that good advice wasn't enough, Keith then offered to send his Aphex over to me (from France) for a while to give me the opportunity to try one out for myself before buying one - how amazing is that!!! The Aphex has arrived and is pretty good actually, so much so that I'm looking for one for myself now.. But I'm really grateful that not only has Keith taken the time and effort to help me out in such a way, he's also put his trust in me... So, this is just to say thanks to Keith who is an absolutely brilliant bloke, a credit to the bass community and of course, an example of everything that is great about Basschat! Highly, highly recommended... Many thanks! Nik
 21.
Ooooh, that's MY review of the bass Now that I read it again, it may be a tiiiiny bit too long Very good bass, it doesn't sound very modern at all (of course), but with an unique tone. Too bad mine has been stolen (bastards...)
Sorry to hear your bass has been stolen!! Good review though...
 22. Sorry to hear this Peter, though I remember you mentioning it when we met up last month... It's always been my experience that musicians with oversized egos kill all the fun of being in a band.. Unfortunately, I've lost count of the number of times that the 'oversized ego' has belonged to the guitarist! Hope things improve for you!
 23.
Boy am I in a good mood these days. Got a new number one guitar as well this year.
I'm not suprised; it looks really nice! A much wider looking neck than the standard Jazz 5 by the looks of it...
 24.
Good question though obviously not an easy question one to answer as I've no way of telling whether you'd have the same problem with it's feel as me.. as for the wood; no - I like the maple as it gives it a real 'snap' to the sound! But as for neck width and any other factors, what works for me may not work for you and vice-versa.. So I'm loathe to say. To help answer your questions as much as possible, I'll try and get some more details on it in terms of nut width, width at 12th fret and bridge etc, and I'll also get it weighed as well!
In response to a few PMs I've had asking for more info, here's a link to the T-40 Enthusiasts website, which has the manual available to view online: http://peaveyt40.forumotion.com/t-40-user-...47a83b9fd235122 According to one article on the web, here's the neck details: "Width at nut 1.56", string spacing at bridge .75", fingerboard radius 16"" There's also this from a BGRA review of the bass: "It's in very good nick, few scratches and dents here and there, but very well kept, considering it's a 30 year old bass. Quite heavy, although not as heavy as I thought it would be (about 5kg, erm... I think approx. 10lb), when switching basses, you really feel the difference :-) I didn't find the neck to be "log-like", actually: it's really comfortable, although I must say I'm not a fan of glossy finish on the neck, but it isn't really a problem, especially since I dig the neck profile very much. The only thing I don't really like is the radius, maybe a little bit too flat for my taste, but it's all about getting used to it." Full review is HERE I actually think the weight of this particular bass is more than 10lbs so I will weigh it ASAP just to be sure... Hope that helps!
