3.
The guys at The Gallery have never let me down before - they've even loaned me instruments in the past when I've had a gig or been in a pinch and they've either been servicing or building a bass for me (although they do know me quite well, as I've been going there since the early 90's). Explain the situation to Alex and I'm sure they'll help you out - their reputation for good customer service is well-earned and they pride themselves on it. Even if Martin's away, John can easily handle a setup, although Martin is the main electronics guy, so that probably won't get done while he's away. A lot of pros use The Gallery, and they appreciate the fact that some people need their instruments returned to them quickly.
+1 They've always been brilliant when I've used them and their reputation is definitely based upon the fact that they work with and understand the needs of their customers.. Best thing would be to explain the urgency of your situation to them and give them a chance to respond. Hope it all works out for you!

 7. Hi Folks, I'm interested in buying a bit of bass gear (a 1 x 10 lightweight cab) on Ebay but it's located in Bath and the seller will only do local pick up... So, I was wondering if any Basschatters could assist me by helping with picking it up and by helping with shipping? Bit cheeky I know but sometimes, needs must! It's an auction so I may not win of course, but equally, there's no point in bidding if I can't arrange to pick up the item! I'd be more than happy to cover all expenses and make a donation to the 'beer & sweets fund' as well for any help received.. Thanks in advance.. Cheers Nik
 8. Hi Dave Just bought this pedal of yours from aphook and I have to say it's absolutely brilliant! Cheers Nik
 9.
The last couple of band rehearsals I've ended up having 2 1x15" cabinet stacks at the studio (Survival in Acton if anyone is interested). I took my Mark Bass F500 with me in my bag - one of the reasons I bought it actually - easy to carry on public transport and guarantee that I can have at least a decent amplifer at reheasal studios which tend to have equipment that I don't like the sound of as much. The first time I had a Trace Elliott stack of 2 1x15" - dunno which models. The second time I had a similar Behringer stack. The main difference I found was that the TE's were much less sensitive. But generally I **REALLY** like the sound of 2 1x15" cabs paired with the F500. Both the TE's and Behringers sounded great and I don't think there were any tweeters in any of the cabs. Now what will give me that tone in 1 (not much I suspect) or 2 light boxes? Normally I only have one cab at ground level, so how much of the sound comes from having a second cab at ear level? How much comes from having a vertical array of similar speakers, rather than a mix of difference speaker sizes? My next experiment will be to take my EBS Neo 212 and place it at ear level and see how that sound compares to the 2 1x15" cabs together. One thing I know is that the last thing I need GAS for is large speaker cabinets!
Interesting post Gwil! I'd be very interested to hear what happens when you take the EBS 212 along to see if that compares at ear level.. FWIW, having used a variety of 410s, 210s, 412s etc, my own opinion is that I prefer a cabinet design that has 15" drivers in it somewhere. The SWR Triad I have now has a 15", a 10" + a horn and it sounds great to me.. I also have a custom build 15" driver with an aluminum cone (that Johnnylager's using at the moment) and I like the tone of that too.. And I think Alex Claber's first cab designs are based around 15" drivers as well IIRC?
 10.
Well it looks as if we have raised £310 for Live Music Now! Well done to all!
Another great effort folks! Congratulations are in order I think
 11. There's been talk of a National Bash around the Peterborough area I think but there's also very likely to be another SE Bash in September/October which will be in Surrey I expect...
 12. Just bought a DHA Purist Bass fx unit from Mark which arrived within a day, was beautifully packaged and is all in perfect working order.. It does exactly what I wanted it to do, which is warm up and fatten up the sound of all of my basses through my Eden Nemesis amp and I'm absolutely delighted with it! So, I'm echoing all of the other positive comments above for Mark, who I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to everyone and would very happily deal with again! Cheers Nik
 13. I played one just like this last month which belongs to flippyfloop and it was an absolute joy to play! Having never tried one before, I must admit that I wondered whether the bass would actually live up to the hype surrounding the 'Fodera' brand, but it really did.. Good luck with the sale!
 14. That looks fabulous to me, as I've always preferred basses to look 'lived-in'.. A very classic Jazz Bass look too. Good luck with the sale/trade!
 15.
I've heard one of Alex's cabs (albeit in a small room) and it sounded very good indeed. I would drop him a PM ( alexclaber ) and have a chat over a beer and a chequebook
+1 Absolutely.. One of his cabs powered by someone's Genz Benz Shuttle made a very much admired 'racket' at the SE Bass Bash last September..
 16.
I've just realised I'm being a bit silly. I have a Zoom B2 MFX as a back-up to plug into the PA in case of amp problems. I can just set two patches up with no effects but differing volumes. Doh! Cheers for all your suggestions though!
That's one of the things the Zoom is really useful for....
 17.
No, keyboard players are.
I used to always use a bass tuned DGCF when I was in a band with a keyboard player, and that was great once I'd got my head around it. A few months ago, I had a go on bass_ferret's KSD 4 string which is tuned BEAD and it played and sounded absolutely fine..
 18. Great story and definitely sums up what Basschat is all about!
 19.
and replied
Replied again, along with PayPal.. Cheers Nik
 20. Great photos - whoever took those did a really great job! Some fabulous looking basses on display but to the unitiated, there's no way of knowing what was what exactly.. Thought the 'Prosebasses' looked great, but there were some other really interesting looking creations too, so if anyone can explain in more detail that'd be helpful? It's definitely given me Bass Bash GAS!
 21. That is a gorgeous looking bass! Good luck with the sale
 22.
Maybe I overlooked but nobody mentionned Richard Bona yet...he's a revelation to me.
+1 Thought that the clips of Tal Wilkinfeld were pretty amazing but the Julian Crampton clip didn't move me at all.. In a rock context, the guy from Muse is very, very creative I think..
 23.
thats stunning!
+1 What are the controls exactly?
