1. I'm really up for another event like last year's one in March as it was so much fun and there really is nothing like meeting everybody and putting the faces to the names/avatars! As people have already said, it was a problem with being it a bit cramped for space and there were noise issues too.. But we kind of got around those issues at the SE Bash last September where we had 2 rooms and organised a few 'intervals' just to give everyon'e ears a rest.. We also did some workshops which seemed to work well too. These events do take a lot of organising, so well done for bringing the idea up now ahead of time...
 2.
The only thing I might suggest is trying to find a similar 88 Stage II as a backup. Never go out with just one instrument. The statistics WILL catch up, sooner or later...
+1 That's good advice..
and now the hunger is building up, i think i can except the fact that the Stage II is THE bass for me, my numero uno, and bass for life, but at 23 i can't be tied down like that, i need something to make me want to deviate even just for a little while..... or should i just be happy with it? Perhaps its the buying and selling i miss? anybody else got what i suppose you could call a wife bass? did you have the one and then let another in? How did it go? and are you still with her?
As for the future, well the statistics in this country aren't very good where 'wives' are concerned, or husbands and marriages for that matter! So at 23 you can expect to have at least a couple of break-ups and a divorce or two along the way.. Better get out there quick and have a fling or two with some new basses!
 3.
For me in particular distinctly average bordering sh*te and I played much of the evening like a complete @rse, still most of those there seemed to get into it. Shame for the first one back at the gig in nearly 7 years and at a gig that has seen some great nights in the past, including the last gig with our old vocalist before he emigrated, which I still listen to the tape of once in a while and still chokes me up Overall sound took a while to get there. Bass was there when I was right on top of it but I had to be in just the right spot, though I was assured it was getting through. Not helped by the fact that it was not in my monitors, so I gave up on the 'phones completely quite early on. Vocalist lost his voice towards the end and while he's generally a good front man on a couple of occasions disappeared off into the bottom of the L to the right of the stage for the lead break then stayed there to sing the following verse so we were playing along to a disembodied voice which kind of p1ssed me off. Ah well there's always next Friday in Bognor, but that may be harder work as I think the second guitarist is n/a
Sorry to hear that Al.. Where's the Bognor gig as I'd like to come to that as I haven't seen you guys for a while and I'm missing my 'White Punks...' fix? We had a really good one at The Elms in Worthing last night, so we're on a run of 3 good gigs in a row now, so going by the law of averages, I expect the next one will be sh*te. I played the whole gig with my Fender Jazz 5 with it's EBS pre-amp and it sounded bloody brilliant... May have to rethink my whole attitude to Active vs Passive basses as a result??
 4.
Great work Chris - looks brilliant!
+1 Looks like a lovely peice of ash.. no wonder it's heavy!
 5. Thanks! I must check those out...
 6. I definitely remember it, but not particularly fondly! It was very high on 'cringe factor' IIRC.. Having said that, Henry Thomas used to live down the road from me in north London and I used to go to him for lessons for a while in the mid 90's and he was absolutely brilliant - both as a teacher and as a person - and I learnt a lot from him in a very short space of time! Though he's a very talented bass player, he started out learning Cello apparently...
 7.
I suspect this is the start of the brave new world...
Exciting!
 8.
I'm looking for a new bass and I need something that ticks these boxes: P + J pickups Completely passive p-ups/electronics 24 Fret neck I'd quite like something vintage but it's not essential. It's fat passive tone with clear highs that I'm after, possibly something that contains a fair bit of maple. Not bothered about weight, ideally don't want to spend more than £1000 but I could go to £1500. Suggestions please The other option I have is sticking some nice passive pickups in my Warwick Streamer but I'm interested to see what basschatters have to suggest.
The world is your oyster with that kind of budget these days.. Only problem is, the range of choices you have available to you which could be a bit mind-boggling.. If I had that budget, I'd be looking at something like Sandberg, ACG or Shuker custom builds or a s/h Lakland or Sadowsky perhaps. Might be worth going to Bass Direct or somewhere like it which will have a wide range of hi-end basses for you to try? Good luck with it!
 9. Cracking gig last night at Mullens in Eastbourne.. Arrived at 8pm and the place was empty but by the time we started at 9.30pm, it was packed! Lots of familiar faces too which is always a good sign.. At midnight the Landlord asked us to do an extra half-hour for a few extra sheckles and we duly obliged. They also supplied us with some beverages at the end which was very generous of them, as a lot of places we play will only offer us free non-alcoholic drinks.. Anyway, all in all a great gig except for the fact that I didn't make it home until gone 3am! Back out at The Elms in Worthing tonight for hopefully, more of the same..
 10. This looks like an original Goodfellow as it has the matching wooden tuning pegs and the rotary control feature in the electronics. The Lowden built ones never had those special distinguishing features...

 12.
Bought Pete's Sandberg Cali JM5 tonight, very easy to deal with and very hospitable too so would recommend to everyone Deal with confidence! Cheers Ieuan
+1 I bought a bass off Pete in 2007 and he was a pleasure to deal with! More recently when I had a serious PC problem, he offered to help sort things out for me and get me up and running again, which was absolutely amazingly good of him... Enough said!
 13. This looks absolutely fantastic, but what does it actually sound like??
 14.
wow, that's fabulous
+1 Great price too...

 16. Very nice looking bass that Pete - not surprised it sold so quickly....
 17.
Beautiful! I love the look of oiled wenge, its stunning, but I hate working with it as I get my fingers full of splinters. Lovely work! Classy, not over-flash but very tasteful pieces of wood.
+1 Simple and elegant, definitely....
 18.
I've said it before & I'll say it again - Mark IV head + Sunn 2x15 = tone heaven. Or is that volume heaven? Never used any effects then either.
I still have the Mark IV head and I really love it.. Wouldn't sell it (not that it's worth much mind) as it's got such great features and I like the sound of it a lot..
 19. I've had 4 Mike Tobias basses over the years and they've all been excellent..
 20. I think it's worth about £1000 as it's a Pro 1e, but that's only my opinion of course... The original case adds value which may put it's worth up, but the market is depressed at the moment, so that all has to be taken into account.
 21. Looks very G&L like to me, but very cool in it's own right too....
 22. Nick just bought a Radial BigShot pedal from me and it was as smooth a transaction as could be had on a smooth day in Smoothtown! Thanks Nick - much appreciated! Cheers Nik
