i've heard patch cables lose low end and you should only use titanium reinforced kevlar military grade space continium cables if you want the TRUE tone of your bass
Holy FX, Bassboy, sounds like a job for OBBM...

Went to see bassninja's band last night at The Eagle in Arundel, West Sussex. Arundel's a beautiful old town with a very strong 'artsy' community and there's a real appreciation of good live music.. Hence, the place was packed, the band were great, punters were loving it and the bassninja was seriously on form!! That Thumb 5 sounded absolutely gorgeous Cheers Wal; see you at the next one. Have a good Xmas in the meantime!
I could do with those John if they're still available.. What's the deal exactly? Have PM'd you.. Nik
I had a 4x10 TX and I drilled it for (locking) castors no problem. Got the wheels from a Wickes/Homebase or some such store for about £10 for the 4
+1 I did the same when I had the TVX model and it worked a treat...

Nice! The Smith looks great; I've always fancied one of those basses...
There's about another dozen or so to add to that too, though some of those on there need to come off really as we don't do them any more. What night's your singer free, if it's Friday coming or NYE (doubtful) could probably make it worth his while. Pete
He's gigging with us on the 19th and the 31st - sorry!

That's bad news Pete! Our singer's busy with us on 2 of those nights otherwise I'd suggest it to him.. Will have a think to see if there's anyone I know of that could fit the bill. Just sorry I can't be of more help... P.S. that's some set list by the way....
Nik - You should try a blender with your effects.
never used one but worth looking into I suppose though ideally, what I'd really like to do is have another small rig, maybe with a 210, just for some effects... But the car's pretty full already at gigs as it is!

Anyone want to borrow a five string?
silverfoxnik replied to waynepunkdude's topic in General Discussion
Excellent idea that could save people a lot of time & money buying a 5 string they're not really suited for.. How many times has that been given as a reason for a sale on here... I see you wear that Santa hat for a reason -
A misapplication of effects methinks! Pedals don't add or take away from the tone, they change it, usually very blatantly, so it can fill a different sonic space, create a different feel or even have a totally different function. A completely transparent pedal would be a very pointless thing indeed! You can't just play bass and then add an effect for 'more tone', you have to play the bass AND the effect. Saying that when I started singing I temporarily sidelined my gigantic pedalboard and then the FX never came out to gig again - it's since been split up and mostly sold off. Alex
Hi Alex, I know what you mean and agree that if you want to use effects to "fill a different sonic space, create a different feel or even have a totally different function" then find the very best pedals you can that will do that. What I was trying to say in my original post is that in my recent experience, almost all the pedals I've used don't give me enough of something new sonically to merit using them as I've found that they change or degrade the natural tone of my bass too much for my liking.. The only pedal I still use during a gig is a Boss FT-2 which gives me a realy cool auto wah effect for use in 'Superstition', but I have to add a bit more bass e.q. from my amp in order to compensate for the fact that the FT-2 thins out the low end when it's working. So, for me, it's a trade off between preserving the sound I like of my un-effected bass and adding an effect occasionally to create something new! Nik
Thought I saw my name being mentioned here ... Hi Kevin. Yes, I bought the bass and travelled a long way to pick it up because I REALLY wanted it, and for the money considered it to be a steal. Which it was. I fell head over heels for it - a thing of beauty. Having lived with it for a while, I still love it to bits. It is a piece of British craftsmanship at it's best - superb build quality instrument that has spolit me getting cheap basses forever. But... it weighs as much as a bus. The neck is almost as wide as a bus. The bridge is a little flakey - the perspex is starting to crack at the thinnest point where the end of the strings are held and it is going to be difficult to source an original to replace it. The sounds are always going to be very subjective - to my ears it seems very limited in the tones available. I will keep it and love it forever, occasionally producing it with a flourish to the astonishment of other musicians ('what the f*ck is that?') but will no longer use it as my #1 bass as it is too precious - at least until I can get something sorted with the bridge - and, frankly, harder to play - I feel much more comfortable with the slimmer Jazz style neck. There is a guy on the Shergold discussion forum who is in the middle of constructing a Shergold double neck from scratch - he is going to have a go a casting a new perspex but for his and, if it works, do one for me too.
Fantastic bass - always wanted to own but never have! It's body shape is very like the old Wal Pro models which I have always loved and owned and they're very similar basses in some ways, both being particularly fine examples of that unique British craftsmanship you mention...

We do a song called 'How To Save a Life' which is the theme tune to some US medical drama but I haven't a clue which band did it originaly? Also, like Clauster's band, we get a lot of fun out of doing a cover of a cover, so for example, we do 'Mrs Robinson' by The Lemonheads.. Or a version of 'Tainted Love that mixes the Marilyn Manson and Pussycat Dolls versions... So much more fun to play and keeps the punters interested!

2 pedal(board) issues rolled into one...
silverfoxnik replied to Merton's topic in Repairs and Technical
It's the aliens, all disguised as bass players !! Have you managed to sus it out yet Mert? My guess would be that the original method of powering each unit is cleaner as I had a similar problem when I added one extra unit to my pedal board a while back and everything started to get noisier. Since then, I've simplified everything anyway but if your set up was working for you as was then I'd say you need to go back to that configuration and start from there. Can't offer any advice re: the BDDI I'm afraid as I have the electrical knowledge of a stone mason... Hope all's well otherwise Mert? -
Your bass is good. Peavey Tour 450 is good. I gigged with Peavey for 20 odd years. Not sure if the Behringher cab has the best rep for longevity. Every Peavey rig I had was Black Widow except the last (2 2x10XF or whatever) but not sure if they still do Black Widows. I might see if I could stretch to a better cab.
+1 There are some good cabs for sale on Basschat at the moment that might be worth looking at, like a Trace 410 for £150 IIRC?

+1 Keith helped me out enormously when organising the SE Bass Bash last September - he's a really helpful person and a true gent! Lovely bass by the way..
