Within two minutes of using it I managed to balance up the output levels on my Roscoe Beck V string, which has a really low output, with my Wal Pro2e which has a really high output.. Something that's been frustrating me for a long time at gigs. A couple of really nice features on it are the 'bright' switch, which adds a bit of zing back to your sound if the reduction in output levels affects the top end of your louder bass. Plus the Mute feature and Tuner out make it a very versatile addition to your pedalboard. The only tiny niggle I have about it is that whilst it says it's 'true bypass', I'm not absolutely 100% sure that it is. To me, there's a small but detectable difference that it makes to your sound.. However, it's such a small difference (mainly in the top end) that you'd never notice it in a gig situation.. Overall, I think it's fantastic value for the money!

I haven't tried the new Hartke range, which seems to be getting rave reviews, but I did have a Hartke HA3500 2 years ago and I just couldn't get a sound out of it that I liked; it was too sterile sounding even when using the valve preamp to try to dirty it up. But I've had 3 Peavey amps over the years - a Session Bass, the T-Max and one of the old 1980's Mark IV head with 2 channels which I still own - and I much prefer them tonally to the HA3500. It's all about personal taste though, so the only way to know for sure would be to try both amps out if you can.

That's the sort of stuff I can hear in my head but can never play.. He has a charm about his playing style; it looks technically challenging to do but he doesn't make it feel or sound like that, which is really cool..

I used to have one when I was a kid (should never have sold it ) and have always found them the fastest necks to play. I know what you mean about needing that extra depth from the neck pick up; it's why I stopped using a Musicman Sub 5 a year or so ago. I think you'd regret it if you sold it though?? That Leigh strumming/damping effect is a great sound isn't it.. I use it occasionally and it drives our keyboard player mad as it sends the bass level through the PA way too high.. Sorry for going off topic.
