Flippin' heck WD, what a dreadfully scarey thing to happen I'm so glad you're still here to tell the tale, and I'm sure the valuable advice on this thread will save others too
+1 I've copied this story and all the invaluable advice in this thread onto an email and sent it to myself and the other members in my band so that we can avoid the same thing happening to us. Thanks for sharing the story with us WD and I'm glad that you're OK
 2. Very nice playing Russ.. and the bass sounds good too!
 3. Hmm... Not sure I can make this one as I have friends down that weekend from Londinium!! Might need to borrow a cunning plan from WalMan as the opportunity to meet Herbie Flowers is way too good to miss.
 4.
That's very generous, thanks!! PM sent...
Just a quick update to say that, thanks to Archetype's donation, we've hit the £150 mark at last!! Just waiting for a convenient date now when Bernie Goodfellow can draw the Raffle on our behalf, and we're looking at October 25th for that. So I'll keep this open until then if people still want to buy a ticket... When we do the actual draw, johnnylager has kindly offered to come and be our official observer and photographer to make sure it's all above board and we get a couple of nice photos!! Thanks to everybody who's contributed so far for their support!
 5. I can't believe this hasn't sold yet! Played one 3 years ago that Gwilym owned and it was a lovely bass! BUMP and good luck with it...

 7.
Il see if I have any more spare moolah lying around.. possibly expect another envelope from me Nik.
That's very generous of you Matt! Go easy though, you've got an Overwater / Wal family to support.... Cheers Nik
 8. Quick update and thanks for all the recent contributions! We're currently up to £135 with this and I am still hopefull of reaching £150 before next week. I've just realised that I haven't yet bought a ticket, so I'm going to do that now which'll take us to £140. So, just looking for a couple more takers now to get us beyond the £150 barrier.. I'm still waiting for one person's payment to clear and that isn't going to be until Oct 16th for some wierd PayPal reason, so all being well, the plan is to draw the Raffle soon after Oct 16th, with Bernie Goodfellow doing the honours for us on that. Cheers Nik
 9. UPDATE: Thanks for the orders so far.. We still have these issues still available: 2007: May/June Bruce Foxton cover (6 copies available) July/Aug Stanley Clarke cover (1 copies available) Sep/Oct Lemmy cover (3 copies available) Nov/Dec Glenn Matlock cover (3 copies available) Nov/Dec John Paul Jones cover (1 copies available) 2008: May/June Peter Hook cover (5 copies available) July/Aug Charlotte Cooper cover (7 copies available) For some reason, no one has asked for the Charlotte Cooper issue? I don't know who she is or who her band are, but don't let the fact that she's on the front cover put you off as there's other good stuff inside the mag! Remember, it's all for good causes... Cheers Nik
 10.
Too much is when you spend money on a bass that you should be spending on essential things. No matter how fantastic the bass, if you're missing your mortgage payments etc. then you've got things a bit wrong. As has been said before there are loads of decent cheap basses out there nowadays, you don't need to spend thousands. If you've got the disposables though, fair enough.
Good point! I agree with Jase about buying second-hand if you can get what you're after that way.. And also with Rich that there is a point beyond which the benefits are really just "further aesthetic qualities". Having said that, it's a free country (apparently), so what people choose to do with their money is up to them and I must admit that I enjoy seeing what inspires Basschatters when they're buying basses. In 1990 when I was far more foolish, I spent £1500 on a very beautiful Tobias Classic 5 from the Bass Centre in Wapping which was an impulse purchase.. First I had to take it back because the pick ups were faulty, then I had the nut changed and then I had different circuitry installed.. Nearly £1800 later I woke up to the fact that the bass didn't make me very happy, didn't enhance my playing and just wasn't for me which is why I was endlessly tinkering with it. In the end, I sold it on and bought a late 70s USA BC Rich Eagle for £400 and was much, much happier.. Most I've spent since then was on a DJ5 here for £800 and my Wal Pro2e which in the end cost me about £700, after I sold on the spare circuitry it came with..
 11.
Two tickets bought, cheers Nik!
Thanks! PM replied to....
 12.
+1 ... have a tyrekicking bump fom a new dad with no money.
But what you have is priceless BUMP again for this as it's a lot of bass for the money! Good luck with the sale...
 13.
Does it matter that I'm all the way off in Liverpool, or are us scruffy northerners not allowed in classy places like this? If geography is no barrier, then count me in for a fiver!
You're very welcome Mike! PM sent...
 14. Had a play on a DJ exactly like yours today at GAK in Brighton and sounded fantastic!
 15. Fantastic looking bass and rig.. Had a quick peek at the LowEnd website and looking at their prices, seems like you got a really good deal when you did the trade with the Warwick!
 16.
I assume everyone and his drummer is familiar with this? I wasn't until now so here you go.
Fantastic.. Thanks!
 17.
How much are we off the £150 mark Nik??
Hi Matt We're at £110 at the moment, though if Dan is in too (thanks Dan ) then make that £115.. I know it's only £35 difference, but as the Yorkshire Bash did so well with their auction which took a while also, then I feel duty bound to do the best we can with this one. Admittedly, times are tough for everyone at the moment and that's had an impact on the Raffle I think.. But for a £5 ticket, it's a great little bass and would be more than good as a started bass for someone. Dan, it's PayPal or postal and I'll PM you the details in a minute.. Cheers Nik
 18.
I'll have a couple of tickets if I'm not too late! Keith
Hi Keith, Thanks for the support and no, you're not too late. Though the plan was to finish the Raffle yesterday, I'm keeping it open a while longer to see if we can hit or get close to the £150 mark. Also, in an ideal world, I want to ask Bernie Goodfellow or someone similar to draw the Raffle and I'm just trying to work that out exactly. I'll PM you details of how to pay.. Apologies to all other Raffle Ticket holders for the delay on this but unless anyone strenuously objects, I think it's worthwhile running this a bit longer? Nik
 19. I have a 1984 BC Rich Eagle that has the P/P configuration and it sounds fantastic! Admittedly, the pick ups are nice old vintage DiMarzios but nevertheless, I think there's a lot to be said for that configuration. In this particular case, there is one volume pot for each pick up and one master tone control.. Oh, and it's passive. There are no buzz or humming issues and you can blend the levels of the pick ups any which way you like.. Very simple to use and very versatile.
 20.
BUMP!
Thanks WP!!
 21. That looks stunning!! Look forward to hearing it...
 22. I've used ParcelForce successfully to ship to Italy and other European countries 2 or 3 times . When shipping, detune the bass and make sure that the bass is completely protected in something like bubble-wrap. If in a hard case, put something like strong foam or cardboard under the headstock and give the neck as much protection as you can generally. I've always tried to send in a hard case if it's going abroad but have used a gig bag on one occassion and that was fine. If it's a gig bag, then the bass needs to be in a strong cardboard box that is very securely taped up using gaffa tape or similar if you can.. Hope that helps..
 23. Great bass.. Hope this story has a happy ending!!
