1.
+1! Probably in my top five too. Love his playing on 'New Career in a New Town' from Low album. Apparently Andy Rourke learnt to play copping his basslines, & Murray was also a big influence on Derek Forbes. He played on all the Bowie 'Berlin Trilogy' , & some tasty basswork of his on Iggy Pop's The Idiot album too. Been trying myself for ages to find out what became of him too. Seems to have just disappeared.
+1 George Murray, along with Dennis Davis on drums, also played on 'Station to Station', the album that was the link between Bowie's 'Soul' period and the Berlin Trilogy.. It seems to be a complete mystery as to what has happened to Murray since the late 70's, which is a real shame as he was a fine player. Great to see support for him here though..
 2.
My brother used to work for an awareness charity thing, and it wasn't before he mentioned it that I had even considered how difficult just getting around London is. I haven't been back in London for a couple of years, but I don't recall seeing any lifts in tube stations at all. More on topic, I can't think of a single instrument shop in centralish London that doesn't have a narrow doorway and/or stairs and/or 90 degree turn. As said before, good luck and congratulations on three years.
+1 Lots of venues around the country are inaccessible too.. The music industry isn't very good when it comes to disability issues tbh.. Good luck though, have a great day & congratulations on the 3 years!
 3.
UPDATE: Thanks for the orders so far.. We still have these issues still available: 2007: May/June Bruce Foxton cover (6 copies available) July/Aug Stanley Clarke cover (1 copies available) Sep/Oct Lemmy cover (3 copies available) Nov/Dec Glenn Matlock cover (3 copies available) Nov/Dec John Paul Jones cover (1 copies available) 2008: May/June Peter Hook cover (5 copies available) July/Aug Charlotte Cooper cover (7 copies available) For some reason, no one has asked for the Charlotte Cooper issue? I don't know who she is or who her band are, but don't let the fact that she's on the front cover put you off as there's other good stuff inside the mag! Remember, it's all for good causes... Cheers Nik
B-U-M-P!
 4. B-U-M-P! Last week of the Raffle.. Draw to take place at the weekend, so if anybody wants any tickets, now's the time..
 5. Isn't this the old 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' story really and I think we've all done it at some time or other? Good to be able to get some perspective though and realise what you had and are capable of... Does this mean more gear changes in the pipeline then Rob??
 6.
I'd try Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience in Hampton Wick to get hold of Paul Herman there, or get another contact no. for him
Yep - spot on Mert! Paul is the person to speak to... The good news is that there is a future for Wal basses...
 7.
Missed the banter so thought I'd re-introduce myself Still a Precision kinda guy (1 x '77 maple, 1 x '78 rosewood, 1 x '79 maple fretless) but have realised that no one type of bass can do it all so have got back into 'rays (courtesy Marcus) and a pretty sexy '80 Ibanez Roadstar maple fretless. No doubt it will change, as it always does Still think Jazzes suck C
Hi Chris Only just seen this today - welcome back!! Hope all has been well in Beedster-Land Your reputation kind of precedes you, so no need to re-introduce yourself around here... But now you're back, we have had a rather stagnant 'For Sale' section that needs revitalising, if you're up for it?? Sounds like you're still a Leo Fender guy really, whether it's a P Bass or a Ray.. Nobody's perfect though, which must account for your blind spot where Jazzes are concerned! Nik
 8.
Very, very good basses. the sound of a Precision with alittle Rick thrown in, and a neck to die sofr, somewhere between a 'ray and a precision. Wide, flat and fast. Not a great solo bass and the slap leaves something to be desired, but lightweight, solid and powerful, and worth every peny of £300 against a modern bass of the same value (as long as it's in good nick - the finishes go very quickly which to my mind isn't a problem, but the electrics can be dodgy) Chris
hey Chris Great to see you back on here!! are you staying around..? Back on topic; lovely basses the Shergold/Haymans.. always fancied one myself! Nik
 9.
Flippin' heck WD, what a dreadfully scarey thing to happen I'm so glad you're still here to tell the tale, and I'm sure the valuable advice on this thread will save others too
+1 I've copied this story and all the invaluable advice in this thread onto an email and sent it to myself and the other members in my band so that we can avoid the same thing happening to us. Thanks for sharing the story with us WD and I'm glad that you're OK
 10. Very nice playing Russ.. and the bass sounds good too!
 11. Hmm... Not sure I can make this one as I have friends down that weekend from Londinium!! Might need to borrow a cunning plan from WalMan as the opportunity to meet Herbie Flowers is way too good to miss.
 12.
That's very generous, thanks!! PM sent...
Just a quick update to say that, thanks to Archetype's donation, we've hit the £150 mark at last!! Just waiting for a convenient date now when Bernie Goodfellow can draw the Raffle on our behalf, and we're looking at October 25th for that. So I'll keep this open until then if people still want to buy a ticket... When we do the actual draw, johnnylager has kindly offered to come and be our official observer and photographer to make sure it's all above board and we get a couple of nice photos!! Thanks to everybody who's contributed so far for their support!
 13. I can't believe this hasn't sold yet! Played one 3 years ago that Gwilym owned and it was a lovely bass! BUMP and good luck with it...
 14.
Ive not done any charity stuff this year cause ive been skint, an i still am. PM me the paypal details and i will chip in too Its a good cause. Archetype.
That's very generous, thanks!! PM sent...
 15.
Il see if I have any more spare moolah lying around.. possibly expect another envelope from me Nik.
That's very generous of you Matt! Go easy though, you've got an Overwater / Wal family to support.... Cheers Nik
 16. Quick update and thanks for all the recent contributions! We're currently up to £135 with this and I am still hopefull of reaching £150 before next week. I've just realised that I haven't yet bought a ticket, so I'm going to do that now which'll take us to £140. So, just looking for a couple more takers now to get us beyond the £150 barrier.. I'm still waiting for one person's payment to clear and that isn't going to be until Oct 16th for some wierd PayPal reason, so all being well, the plan is to draw the Raffle soon after Oct 16th, with Bernie Goodfellow doing the honours for us on that. Cheers Nik

 18.
Too much is when you spend money on a bass that you should be spending on essential things. No matter how fantastic the bass, if you're missing your mortgage payments etc. then you've got things a bit wrong. As has been said before there are loads of decent cheap basses out there nowadays, you don't need to spend thousands. If you've got the disposables though, fair enough.
Good point! I agree with Jase about buying second-hand if you can get what you're after that way.. And also with Rich that there is a point beyond which the benefits are really just "further aesthetic qualities". Having said that, it's a free country (apparently), so what people choose to do with their money is up to them and I must admit that I enjoy seeing what inspires Basschatters when they're buying basses. In 1990 when I was far more foolish, I spent £1500 on a very beautiful Tobias Classic 5 from the Bass Centre in Wapping which was an impulse purchase.. First I had to take it back because the pick ups were faulty, then I had the nut changed and then I had different circuitry installed.. Nearly £1800 later I woke up to the fact that the bass didn't make me very happy, didn't enhance my playing and just wasn't for me which is why I was endlessly tinkering with it. In the end, I sold it on and bought a late 70s USA BC Rich Eagle for £400 and was much, much happier.. Most I've spent since then was on a DJ5 here for £800 and my Wal Pro2e which in the end cost me about £700, after I sold on the spare circuitry it came with..
 19.
Two tickets bought, cheers Nik!
Thanks! PM replied to....
 20.
+1 ... have a tyrekicking bump fom a new dad with no money.
But what you have is priceless BUMP again for this as it's a lot of bass for the money! Good luck with the sale...
 21.
Does it matter that I'm all the way off in Liverpool, or are us scruffy northerners not allowed in classy places like this? If geography is no barrier, then count me in for a fiver!
You're very welcome Mike! PM sent...
 22. Had a play on a DJ exactly like yours today at GAK in Brighton and sounded fantastic!
 23. Good deal.. PM sent.
 24. Fantastic looking bass and rig.. Had a quick peek at the LowEnd website and looking at their prices, seems like you got a really good deal when you did the trade with the Warwick!
 25.
I assume everyone and his drummer is familiar with this? I wasn't until now so here you go.
Fantastic.. Thanks!
