1. Hi Folks, After a series of PMs and discussions, we think the best way around the potential overcrowding/too much noise problem is to let everyone bring their gear with them as they see fit.. But then, upon arrival, everyone gets issued with some kind of identifying tag (like a number, e.g. odds & evens or a colour, e.g. reds or blues). Then, every hour or so, if it get's to the point where as Merton put it so well in the OP, we start to hit: "..a meltdown in noise and room space." Then we'll alternate between the numbers or colours so we can keep some kind of control over things. To be honest, it's by no means a perfect solution because it will need monitoring and implementing somehow but because we don't want anyone to feel excluded from bringing their own stuff, it's the best solution we've been able to come up with. In the end, I think it all comes down to having a sense of respect for everybody else there and being aware of what's going on around you throughout the day. IMO, I think it'll work best if it's a self-managed situation and everyone keeps the issue in mind... So if everyone coming could give this idea their support, we'd really appreciate it! . After all, this is all of ours event and it will only be as good as we all want it to be! I hope that makes sense and it's OK for everyone, but if anybody has any better ideas as to how to make this work, then please say so as we'd be more than happy to take them on board.. Look forward to seeing you there! Nik
  2.
The Holiday Inn does indeed have a bar with bar snacks, so they told me anyway... Looking forward ot this, it's gonna rock! Thanks to Nik for being the head honcho iwithout whom it would have never happened
Cheers Merton, but this has been a real team effort so far so I can't take any credit other than for being foolish enough to suggest we have another SE Bash in the first place By the way, I've just had confirmation that Bernie Goodfellow is coming up on Saturday with some fabulous basses and some EBS Rigs, which is great news! Bernie's kindly going to donate something to the Raffle as well I'm going to look at the Worskhops schedule later to see if we can give Bernie a space to demonstrate some of his basses/rigs on the day as well as him being set-up in the main room..

  5.
Hey Nik, would I be able to buy a ticket at the bash, instead of on here? I'm definately comin, and definately buyin a ticket...andy chance you can make this possible?
No problem at all! Only reason for a cut-off is that we probably wouldn't be able to check online whilst there as we've so much going on.. But no problem selling tickets to folk there on the day at all!
  6.
I think everyone's just tryin to work out their schedule so they can get to all the workshops AND have a noodle on everyones kit AND have a pint AND some food! o yeah, will there be a resteraunt in the venue?
Cheers Phil - you're probably 100% spot-on. I'm just getting a bit twitchy now.. AFAIK, there's food and drink available but merton will clarify that I'm sure. See you there! Nik
  7.
Hi Nik, Could you PM me an address, I'l stick £5 in the post? Best, Matt
Thanks Matt, will do... Much appreciate your support!
  8. Hi Folks, Less than a week to go now guys! Please can anyone who's interested in having a set-up done on the day by Joe White let me know here, as I'd hate it for Joe to be available all day and him only have 2 set-ups to do - those currently being one for stingrayfan and one for me? And if there's any other questions or anything concerning any of the Workshops, please post them up here.. I know the old saying is that 'silence is glden' but I'm getting worried because no-one has made any comments about the Workshops.. Is there something wrong?? Should also have some news on Benie Goodfellow's involvement as well by tomorrow.... As you can tell, this is an 'early Monday morning with less than a week to go, getting nervous' kind of BUMP! Nik
  9. Hi Folks, Less than a week to go now!! Here's a link to the RAFFLE in the For sale Forum.. Please have a look and buy a ticket!!! As they say, you have to be in it to win it.. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27998 There will be other Raffle prizes on the day as well for everyone who's coming along.... Nik
  10. The Winner is mike 257 Hi Folks, Following on from the example of the Yorkshire Bass Bash in the summer, we have a Black Extreme Jazz Bass to auction here as part of the fundraising side of things for the South East Bash this coming Saturday. With thanks to yorks5stringer for the help and wording on this, here's some blurb to get you all interested in suporting this worthy cause: "The view of those present was that we should raffle the bass for £5.00 per ticket on this site as it exposes it to more potential purchasers and therefore we should be able to raise more money for the charities we wish to support." Funds raised will be split between Basschat.co.uk and The Enable Me Project (www.enableme.org.uk) who I work for and which is a disability charity based in West Sussex that works in schools and the community. Here's the bass: Ideally, I'd like the closing date to be this Friday at midnight as Adrian Ashton, Editor of Bass Guitar Magazine has kindly offered to draw the winner at The SE Bash on Saturday afternoon... However, times being tough and all, we may extend the deadline and do it a week later if take up is slow here (credit crunch, what credit crunch????).. So come on folks, remember this is for Charity and it is a great little bass too - in fact, I was surprised at just how good it is!! As you can see, they retail at less than £90.00, but I'm hoping that we can more than double that with your support! Just £5.00 a ticket There will be other Raffle prizes on the day at the Bash too so all in all, should be a great day! Thanks again for your interest & support! Nik
  11.
Gorgeous! Looks like the 'Ray version of my Retroactive... Bring it to the bash, oh yes, must have a spank on that
+1 We won't let you in without it Matt! And I don't even like graphite necks on basses.. Looks amazing!
  12. Thanks - enjoyed that! Never heard of them/him before but they make a great noise.. Lovely bass playing and tone.
  13.
I wouldn't know where my fungers were mate, let alone how to drum them. pm replied
Double oops!! Mind you, the way our drummer played tonight, I reckon he's got fungers instead of fingers Will PM you in the morning...
  14.
All working fine,it's had pots replaced by Wal few yrs back, got the old pots an note off Wal in a little bag. Very powerful output on these things,i find i have to keep the pick ups lowered.
I know what you mean; I've never heard a bass with louder output (though I'm sure there are some somewhere..).. Good move getting the pots replaced as they do go eventually.. Is this your only Wal or do you have a few to keep you company after this one sells?
  15.
<drums fingers>
Oops, sorry! You can't drum your fungers, you're the bass player... PM now..
  16.
Thanks Nik It does have one off the E string machinehead on the back but you can hardly see it.(as well as a few other little dings and lacquer crazing)and yeah you often see them. Bein the trainspotter i am,i came up with this theory for them happening There's two little prongs on the m4s machine heads that go into the head, these snap easy if the machinehead is lose and takes a knock ,which often leads people to overtighten them,as there's still movement once they've snapped. Pete
Sounds like it could be feasible, though I've seen the cracks on other parts of the lacquer away from the machine head, so who knows? Whatever the cause, your bass seems pretty clear of them and overall, in very good condition considering it's age... What are the electrics like?
  17.
Here's a few pics ,am not the greatest photographer but did me best
That looks to be in pretty good condition! As you probably know, sometimes the lacquer tends to develop cracks around the machine heads, but that doesn't seem to be the case with yours Pete... Very nice indeed
  18.
This is a lovely old Wal,but also has to go sadly. November 1980 ,2 pick up active, finished in black, will get some pics up,(is pretty much the same looks as the one in silverfoxniks avatar) ,welcome to come view it.Some small lacquer cracks in the black but overall stunning and fairing very well for 28 yrs old!! £1400 Pm me any interest Cheers Pete
Look forward to seeing the photos Pete! I'm sorry to hear you're selling such a lovely vintage bass, but I'm assuming that it's for impossible to avoid and urgent reasons.... Are you going to post it up on the Walbassesnaturaly group on Yahoo as well? There was a guy on there looking for a Pro 2e very recently IIRC. Good luck with the sale! Nik
  19.
huh?
Sorry Steve, I was just thinking out loud! Will PM you... Nik
  20.
Well done Nik, when I was trying to sell it it was up here for months and no-one was interested. I only moved it on because I was under pressure to reduce the size of my collection. I was the second owner: the bass actually dates from 1984 according to the serial number, so it's a 24-year-old bass.
Cheers Pete; thanks for the photos and for the extra info! Guess I got lucky with the timing....
  21. With just over a week to go, here's a quick update on a few things before the coming weekend... 1. Lenny B Lenny sent me a PM earlier this week saying that: "If there's interest, I'd be glad to do a seminar/workshop/advice clinic at The Bash if people have any queries / issues that are music biz related" It's a really great offer, so thanks Lenny for that! To give you an idea of the type of advice Lenny can offer, have a look here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2508 Unfortunately, we are already full up to the max with the Workshops, so I suggested to Lenny that if I mention something here, then anyone who's interested could reply or send him a PM and depending on the response, he could arrange to hold a 'legal issues' Workshop over lunch somewhere in the building, perhaps the bar? Failing that, if we do this again next year, then maybe Lenny could do a full workshop then? As I said, it's a really great offer and I'm sorry that it can't be properly accomodated at this Bash.. 2. Bernie Goodfellow Johnnylager's done a bit of work for the Bash and got Bernie interested in coming along, which is great news. I'm not quite sure what Bernie has in mind or quite how we can accomodate him yet, so I'm waiting until he gets back from Sweden at the weekend to talk to him to work it out. Ideally, it'd be nice to give Bernie a chance to demonstrate his amazing basses and some of his EBS gear.... Thanks John and more news to follow after the weekend.. 3. Raffle I'm been meaning to post up some info about a Raffle for The Bash but have just been too busy since I got back from my holiday to get around to it. But I'm going to do something at the weekend and we're planning to model it on the way the guys did it at the recent Yorkshire Bash. If anyone has anything they'd like to donate to the Raffle or has any ideas for it, please let me know? Thanks, Nik P.S. News on Rigs to be posted on the Rigs thread....
  22.
no there isn't, but I could be persuaded to replace the battery clip tho' as I have one to hand.
Mmmm.....??
  23. I nearly bought one ten years ago and still regret not buying it! Great sounding and very versatile basses.. The relatively recent introduction of the SR5 with two pick ups owes a lot to the early Sabre design IMO.. Good luck with the sale!
