1.
Unfortunately, not to me! J.
Maybe not Jon, but your glowing recommendation definitely had a part to play in making this happen I think.. So thanks for that!
 2. Welcome back!! Once an addict, always an addict...... And what better 'addiction' to have than bass.
 3.
Very nice Matsumoku-era RSB - this is quite a silly-cheap price for JapCrap of this vintage. I assume it's a good de-fret job, I can't remember seeing any lined fretless RSBs. If I a) had a spare £100 and wasn't de-fretting my Peavey 5er I would be more than interested - the RSBs are great, lightweight & playable basses, I used an RSB Deluxe II as my main bass for about 15 years. Since I can't buy it, have a bump so someone else does! Jon.
Thanks for the support Jon! As you say, these are great basses and this is a very fair price for it I think! It was defretted as I understand it and it was very well done, so no issues there....
 4. **** NOW SOLD - pending the usual **** Hi Folks, I bought this 1986 Aria Pro II RSB bass back in May from pete.young as the second stage in my flirtation with playing fretless, which was all started at the last South East Bass Bash in August 2007 when I had a go on Luke Ward's Ibanez Gary Willis fretless.. Anyway, interesting as it's been as an experiment, a year later and 2 fretless basses later I've decided that fretless is not for me..Or should I say more correctly, I'm not for fretless!! And because I've just been offered a bass I've wanted to acquire for a long time, I need to sell one to make room for it... so this beauty of a bass needs to go. But before I put it up on Ebay and with the SE Bash coming up in 10 days time, I thought I'd post it here to see if there's any interest in it? It's not in absolute pristine condition but the neck is true and it plays really well. In fact, for a 22 year old bass, it's in pretty decent condition. Even more than that, it sounds great for a 1 p/up passive bass! It even comes with the original receipt from 1986 would you believe! Pete's very kindly let me use his photos but if you'd like better pictures, then I'll get some done over the next couple of days. There's even a couple of sounclips of Pete's that I can post up here, when I work out how to do it! I paid £100 for it and that's what I'm asking for it now. IMHO, it's well worth that to be honest as it is a very well made bass and it does sound really good! I'm happy to bring it to The Bash with me next week if anyone would like to 'try before they buy', otherwise, if there's any serious interest, please PM me. Not looking for a trade at the moment, just a sale if possible.. Thanks Nik
 5.
Wotcha 'Nik I do like a Bash - yet to go to a duff one, always a great mix of thouroughly decent people & quality gear. At the moment, however, it's looking a bit grim TBH, as there seems to be a glitch in my er... "government sponsorship" which could leave me stuffed for a week or two. *** If *** by some miracle the DWP sort it out, I'll be down. Has there been any thought from us Londonistas about a huge meet-up at Waterloo? I'd suggest 09:45 to 10:00 under the big clock on the concourse. Thoughts? Pete.
Alright Pete!! Good to hear from you All I can say is that I hope the 'bass lord' is smiling down upon you and you can get there next week.. after all, who else is going to bring a short-scale Japanese bass with a whammy bar?? Nik
 6. Thanks for the replies regarding the merits of using it for Bass folks, but I think Marcus has beat everyone to it! That's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes..
 7.
I'm probably going to do the same thing - my season ticket will get me into London and for 11.50 it's not worth driving. The venue is walkable from the station - 1.6 miles according to google. I guess it just depends on how much stuff you're planning to bring. Pete
I think someone has offered to do some taxi work on the day to help with this, so maybe it would be useful for people to give an idea of when they're aiming to get there on the day? I think it was Hamster....
 8.
Greets, As it stands at the moment, I'll be deciding on the day if I can make it - a tad strapped for cash at the moment. If the bank balance smiles on me, I'll be along & bringing a couple of old Arias and (probably) the 1 x 10/superfly micro rig. Here's hoping... Pete.
Hope you can make it as it'd be really good to see you there Pete! By the way, here's an update on the Workshops: Back from sunny Spain now and as the Bash is fast approaching, here's some info about our guest speakers who are leading the Workshops: 1. Joe White: "I have been a luthier for nearly 30 years, making and repairing guitars. I started making electric guitars and then went on to acoustics. I make all types of mandolins, arch tops, 8,10 and 12 string guitars and even exotic ones like the Cuban Tres. Then there is always the bass player that wants something different. I literally cover every aspect of guitar making. There is a difference between a luthier and a guitar maker. Any 14 year old can make a guitar but that does not make him a luthier. A luthier will tune the wood to pitch which is something special. I love what I do, it is a passion with me. All those who have met or know me will know this. I have people that knock my door asking to look around my workshop, so I show them what I do and basically how a guitar is made. I always make time for people. Customers include members of Status Quo, Pink Floyd, Bill Wyman's Blues Band, Thin Lizzies ex guitarist Snowy White, Paul Geary (who has been bass player for Kylie Monogue, George Michael and Charlotte Church) etc. The pro set-up that I will be doing at the show normally costs £80.00 but I will be doing it for £50.00 for that day.The guitar will be set up for the customer and not the man at the bus stop." 2. Adrian Ashton: My Bass Background I’ve been playing for about 25 plus years, my playing benefiting greatly after graduating from BIT in LA in 1992 where my tutors included Gary Willis, Alexis Sklarevski and Steve Bailey. I have worked as a journalist for 10 + years writing for Bass Player and Bassist until 2002 when after a lengthy absence of UK magazines I took the plunge to launch my own bass mag, Bass Guitar Magazine. We’re just hitting our 40th issue now and so I’ve acted as owner, consultant (after selling the title) and editor - a job I recently returned to on a freelance basis. In 2006 I wrote a book for Backbeat Publishing ‘The Bass Handbook’ and quite possibly another title will follow in 2009 (maybe members can tell me what they want to hear about!). Gear over the years – 66, 73, 78, and 79 Jazz, Music Man StingRays 77 and 78, 66 Hofner Violin bass, 66 Gibson EB-3, Manson custom J and custom 5-string through neck, Washburn Bootsy Collins Signature Star Bass, 70s Precision, Pedulla Buzz, 74 Rickenbacker 4001, Gibson Ripper, Aria SB-600, big bunch of effects and Ampeg SVT Classic VR through AccuGroove is current rig but I also have an Eden Traveller and early SM-300 Trace Elliot Head. I thought I’d bring maybe 2 or 3 basses? 3. Alex Claber: This is taken from Alex's own thread about his workshop here: "As I'm sure you could guess I can probably ramble on endlessly about these subjects, so in the interest of interest could y'all let me know what you'd like me to witter on about! Alex P.S. I realise this could be like asking a layman what specific areas of quantum physics they'd like to learn about but I'm hoping it might elicit some useful responses... " 4. John East: Brief history: Started to play bass at the age 14-15. Played around with valves during teens, converting old valve radios to guitar amps for friends. Educated at art school keeping electronics and bass in the background. Played bass for a living in mid 20s moving over to pro audio design for most of working life, before going full time on the bass electronics, around 3 years ago. Have a great deal of experience in high end pro audio mixing console design, and that mind-set is still used within the East UK bass preamp designs. Bass Bash Presentation Illustrate and demonstrate the differences between the more conventional EQ systems and what are called filter-based types, such as the ACG. This will include some brief technical background in order to help illustrate how sounds relate to the technical aspects, but with the emphasis on the practical side. Also, if people would like Joe to do any set-ups for them, it'd be useful for him to get an idea of potential numbers in advance? Thanks... Nik
 9.
I have an MXR MicroAmp boost pedal I want to sell. Sturdy little box - just one knob for cut/boost, and one knob for on/off. How easy can it get? Very good condition (I've used it, but never abused it), works perfectly and is cosmetically fine. If you need pics, I'll try and dig something up. But it looks as you would expect! £35 posted?
How well does it work for bass, as it's mainly used by guitarists isn't it? Only, I'm looking for a clean way to boost the level of my passive Roscoe Beck 5 string bass in order to match the much higher output of my Fender Jazz 5 string bass, which is active?

 12.
I have copied the first post over to the SITE NEWS section so it will show on the RSS feeds and at the top of the main forum index. I am not sure if pinning this or any of the SE bash threads is advisable though because I think that makes them actually less visible and I don't think the thread will slip down very far. Cheers ped
Thanks Ped, though I agree that pinning it will make it less visible... Anyway, back from sunny Spain now and I have some news to update on the workshops about our speakers which I'm going to do in another post... Nik
 13.
That all-black Precision is a real looker, too! Rich.
+1 Classic looking bass!
 14.
Bernard Edwards has two great qualities for me. His economy of playing: Every note is effective and there is not a single note wasted or out of place. His unpretentiousness: Forget GAS, mojo or the technology of bass playing, his attitude was to just pick up a bass (any bass!) and nail the tune. How do you put a different or better line to a BE tune? You can't. That's unique.
+1 His basslines were the song in a lot of cases, and that really is unique!
 15. Joe recently bought a MM SR5 from our guitarist, Tony who said the transaction was really good and that Joe was great to deal with! So, highly recommended to one and all!!
 16.
whats the deal with selling bits of kit there? I don't mean settin up a table and checkout, but should I bring plenty of cash?
Good question.. We're overloaded with SE bash threads as it so but it might be worth people posting here if they've got stuff for sale that they're going to bring to the Bash?
 17.
Oh yes indeedy - especially looking forward to Alex C's workshop
Excellent!! See you then...
 18.
Yes please - he can have a go at my G&L.
Good! I'm going to get one of my basses done as well so that's 2 of us....
 19.
Hi all, there's pretty much zero chance my BFM will be finished in time, so better scrub mine from the list.
Are you still coming to the Bash anyway?
 20.
Looks brilliant Nik, well done.
Should be a good day! Thanks for the suggestion re: a luthier btw, are you going to be Joe's first customer?
 21.
You guys have done some outstanding work here Nik. Thanks so much!
Cheers CK - look forward to seeing you there! Don't forget to work out some tricky questions for the Workshops..
 22.
Hi guys, I thought I would start a thread about folks bass history, the basses you have been through since day one, and what you have now - its a bit of a gear porn fest, but hey! Ill get the ball rolling: Eventually got replaced with: My Warwick Streamer LX5, which is still with me today and I will probably keep indefinately - it has such a lovely warmth and growl I dont think I can face selling it! So, lets see what you got!!
What's that Robbie Williams song Luke? 'She's the One'! Well your Warwick is the one IMO.... The Bacchus would have to be exceptional to outdo it and though your Vigier looks amazing, personally I can't get on with graphite.. Lovely colection you have at the moment though..
