i think even with shipping and duties this might be worth a punt for someone. Seller doesn't indicate that they'll ship to the UK though. Chris(?) Nightingale used to work with Bernie Goodfellow I think, hence the similarity with Goodfellow basses. Here's the ebay link
You don't see them very often, that's for sure. Weren't they made out of a workshop in Denmark Street at one time?

The bass cellar - denmark street
silverfoxnik replied to budget bassist's topic in General Discussion
The Bass Cellar are, in my opinion, everything what's wrong, vile and odious about music shops. As someone said, if the place were on fire, I wouldn't drop my trousers! So to speak. Incidentally, I know a lot of people here are aware of this, but new members may not be. On the counter, there is an A4 sign, stood up in portrait. On this sign, it says: Want a bass? Short on Cash? THEN DON'T WASTE OUR TIME. Those disgusting cretins!
That sums it up perfectly! The sad bit is that there are so many shops like the Bass Cellar out there that it makes the fun of trying & buying an instrument that much harder to experience. Fortunately there are some good places, The Gallery in Camden is an example of how well it can be done. Local to me, the bass department in GAK is pretty good too. It's because of these awful shops that we should be grateful for the For Sale section here because it is a much, much nicer way to buy and sell basses! -
Really good article thanks and a great magazine too! Pleasantly surprised it's available to read online as well.... I agree with the premise that your bass tone starts with your hands; Carlos Santana said that years ago.. But the other technical stuff was fascinating as well though how seriously one can take the idea of cables working one way I'm not sure. The bit about e.q. ing your bass to compliment the pitch of the drummer's bass drum is definitely something worth remembering as that's exactly what happens when mixing bass & drums in a studio setting. The Radial DI box mentioned in the article sounds great but I would imagine it's not cheap?

Another fine bit of business speedily concluded with Lee-Man today; 1 x soundcard and 1 x spirit folio mixer arrived safely in the post and I'm very happy indeed! Thanks Lee, Nik
Well mine was a 75 jazz bass (ouch) and a salmon pink 82 squire p bass with tortoise shell pick guard. They are the first to my mind! Ouch!!
Oh, don't start! It's all too painful thinking about them... I miss some of my old basses more than I miss some of the women who've had the misfortune to know me over the years.. if you know what I mean
wow, that looks awesome. apart from anything else I really like a couple of the small details. the gold bridge saddles on the black bridge works really well, as do the offset dots on the fb. but I guess you don't want those LEDs being obscured by a string
+1 Agreed; it is a bit special!!

SR5 for sale - £550 o.n.o. **NOW SOLD**
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Basses For Sale
Oh crap why did I come in here & see this. Was planning on a SR in the future! Your profile says you're based in Littlehampton, are you over more that way any time soon? I actually live in Worthing.
I'm in Littlehampton but the bass belongs to our guitarist Tony, who lives in Woodingdean just outside of Brighton.. If you want to speak to him directly to sort something out, PM me your details and I'll pass them onto him.. Nice to hear of another West Sussex based Basschatter! -

MODERATORS: HEADS UP!!! TOO MANY SELLERS IN TWO MINDS!!
silverfoxnik replied to Apothem's topic in General Discussion
However every sale, bid, offer, declined offer has been with lots of friendly chatter and everyone has been really courteous - something that cannot be said of a lot of Ebay transactions I've been through. I've made some real friends in the process as well. I find the whole for sale section works incredibly well, certainly better than any other forum based sale section that I've come across anyway!
+1 That sums up my view on this completely.. There isn't a 'system' in the world that's perfect, but the one here is pretty good and reflects the character of the Mods and most of the Basschatters who frequent the site; i.e. friendly, open, honest and generally full of good humour! -
SR5 for sale - £550 o.n.o. **NOW SOLD**
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Basses For Sale
I bought this new in 1998. Used it for several years and it picked up a few knocks and dents along the way. I have basses for using not for show. Took it to Austin, Texas to make an album so it's flown in the cargo hold long hail. Had the nut replaced with a brass nut for extra zing. I tried various pick-ups in it but when sold it was back to standard. I thought the £600 I sold it for was very fair considering the condition and what I paid for it new. Oh and I sold it because I had completed and was very happy with the Status necked SR5 and couldn't justify having two of them. Here we are at Bognor Live 2002. It's a good one, go for it.
Thanks for that info OBBM; great photo btw!! -

SR5 for sale - £550 o.n.o. **NOW SOLD**
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Basses For Sale
Thanks for the replies. I'll check the age from Tony but i suspect the only to find out is via the Ernie Ball website or OBBM? The reason it's selling at this price is because that's what Tony has asked me to list it for... In fact, believe he bought it from OBBM for £600 so given that, it's not an unfair price I suppose. PM returned Russ.. -
Hi Folks, This is a very nice SR5 that used to belong to OBBM until he sold it to the guitarist in our band Tony, who bought it for use in his studio. However, as his wife has decided they're going to have yet another holiday in Australia next February, he wants to raise some money for that.. So this in now up for sale. I've used it a couple of times at gigs, most infamously when I locked all my gear in the boot of my car on the way to a gig once and Tony lent me this to get through the gig!! It's a classic sounding SR5, plays great but has seen a bit of action in it's time so it's cosmetically not perfect. But if it's that MM sound you're after, then this is it! Collection preferred from Woodingdean near Brighton but it could be posted if absolutely necessary.. any questions, please PM me or post here and I'll pass them on for you and get a reply.. Here's some pics.. 1977 Fender Jazz Bass - Sunburst. SALE PENDING

Maybe it's the time of year and not much money about?? I had this as a starter fretless for a few months and it got me interested enough to get a better fretless about three months ago when I bought an 80's Aria. As ben says, this is in great condition and it plays well & sounds pretty good, especially for £55! Good luck with the sale and have a free Sunday BUMP!

Is this the one mentioned in BGM last month with Stanley Clarke involved?? Word definitely seems to be that it sounds amazing; it'd be good to hear some sound clips if there's any around? Congrats on fitting it yourself....

The reason why NYC is a bass mecca...
silverfoxnik replied to stonecoldbass's topic in General Discussion
Great story and photos - thanks for sharing that with us lesser mortals!! That modified Jazz looks so cool! -
'Love Foolosophy' by Jamiroquoi... Awful, awful piece of music, albeit a great bassline! I've never liked JK, the song or any of his other stuff and partly because I'm not good enough and partly because I dislike the song so much, I have never played it well or properly in the 2 years I've been in the band (terrible attitude I know). Fortunately, using a slow and subtle brain-washing tactic on all of the members of the band has meant that we've slowly begun to drop it from our set.. I'm much, much happier now

Very, very nice indeed - well done! And there we were thinking you'd gone mad selling all your other basses... Now we can see why.
