2. Sorry, can't help I'm afraid as that is a beautiful looking bass! Best phone your GP on Monday morning....Or give your credit cards to your wife for safe keeping!

 4.
Hey Nik - get an EBS Microbass II Sorry as well
Cheers John I've heard they're expensive but great and I don't know a thing about them.. Will have a look now though.. Thanks! Nik
 5.
How many basses can you play at one time?
Just saw this! Simple answe is one, but not very well more often than not. The reason I'm interested in an amp with 2 channels is because during gigs I use my Roscoe Beck V which I'm sure you know, has a very low output. But on certain songs, I use my Wal Pro, which has a very high output. So an ideal situation for me would be having 2 channels set up completely seperately; one for each bass in order to save any hassle when switching over during the set. My old Peavey Mk IV amp had that and thought it wasn't the best amp in the world, it was bloody handy when using more than one bass. Sorry for hijacking the OP by the way...
 6.
I'll answer this cos I used to have one, you can only play one bass through it. There's the solid state preamp, tube preamp, and then you can select both at the same time. I liked both when I had mine
Thanks.; that's what I thought...
 7.
.... or blend valve & solid state together... The crossover option is quite cool too & it goes down to 2 Ohms Here's a link to the manual... T-Max Manual Reckon it's the best amp Peavey have made!..... if I could afford to, I'd keep it!
Thanks for the info! The way it seems to me having looked at the manual, you can only use one bass with it at any one time.. But that one bass signal can be sent through two different channels for really quick changes of sound and by combining the channels, you also get a 3rd sound.. What it doesn't seem to be is an amp that can have two different basses plugged in at any one time - is that right?
 8. I've always been interested in one of these because of the 2 channel facility and the fact that it can drive two 4 ohm cabs - is that right or am I thinking of another Peavey model? How does the 2-channel facility work exactly?
 9. I recently bought a Triad from Lee-Man and they're great sounding cabs! It cost me about £40 to ship via APC but it was worth it.. Good luck with the sale!
 10. Lovely stuff Pete! That 5 string looks great but it must be very narrow string spacing? I've just recently joined the Aria club with a mid 80's fretless ProII RSB special that I bought from Pete Young here on the forum.. I'll put a picture up at some point soon..
 11.
Here's my old Maya. She's in immaculate condition, not a scratch or ding. Using it a lot more at the moment. Even been complimented by a couple Rickenbacker owners after trying it. Punchy! I've added a screw cap for a thumb rest by bridge pickup, has a phase switch which puts both pickups in & out of humbucking mode when together & I've done bridge pickup cap bypass mod with push-pull tone pot.
That looks really good and the mods you've done are very interesting! Do they change the sound a lot?
 12.
Once I got the Celinder P bass I knew I had to have a jazz and I got one and then let it go so there's now another one arrived and this is a very special bass. The tone is absolutely wonderful and its super playeable. I hesitate to say this but I can't see this going anywhere for a long time. Only drawback is it's not light at 10.25 lbs but what a bass!!!
That's a lovely looking bass! Nothing wrong with heavy basses in my opinion.. Two of mine are similarly heavy (my Wal & Fender RBV) but they sound great..
 13.
In my experience and assuming everything else is equal (ie. string break angle over the saddles) it makes a difference only so far as the bridge contributes overall to the general rigidity of the instrument. In plain english that means the following points: 1) The string vibrates from the saddle, not from the anchor and the saddles are in contact with the base plate. So most of the vibrations essentially get transmitted to the body primarily through the base plate. A high mass bridge (like a badass) is less likely to vibrate in sympathy with the the strings and therefore less likely to transmit vibrations through to the body but will help with sustain. 2) The through body anchoring may make a difference if the bridge lacks sufficient rigidity as an anchor. Basically this would mean that if the bridge was flimsy enough to dampen the sustain AND the wood selected and neck design was insufficiently rigid then through body anchoring could probably have some slight benefit. 3) With a high mass bridge, the wood makes less of a contribution to the tonal character and sustain of the bass. With a low mass (eg. vintage Fender) bridge the wood is likely to make more of a contribution. So in basses with low mass bridges its more important that the wood is well seasoned and rigid if sustain is desirable. To sum up, I'd suggest the role of the bridge is relative depending on how the rest of the bass has been designed. I've owned stingrays with both options and there was little difference in tonal character.
+1 I though that the diference was more apparent in the way the bass sustains, as opposed to a change in tonal characteristics..
 14.
Playing around with Garage Band on the Mac and recorded a bit of reggae bassplaying on my Yamaha BB614. DI'd it straight into the computer and then added the "reggae bass" FX setting with a bit of reverb. Really pleased with the sound, even if there are a couple of fluffs with the playing. Sounds great for a bass that cost £280 new. See what you think:
I enjoyed that! Sounds great as you say.. Hoping to see you at Loxwood on Saturday - will you be playing the BB614 or the G&L?
 15.
I'll start - this is the original Rickenbugger, queen of all the Fakers: It's a Kasuga, made in Japan probably early/mid 70s, exact model & age uncertain. It's a bolt-neck, and is incredibly heavy - which I haven't helped by putting a brass Hipshot on it. Additionally I've made a custom trc (the original was sadly long-gone) and Pickguardian - style pickup surround, and replaced the plain white scratchplate with the pearl. It may be a cheap Jap copy - but I think it's the most gorgeous & unique Rick-shaped thing I've yet to lay eyes on... Who's next? Jon.
That's gorgeous! Never heard of that make before... Well, here's my £82.00 Hondo II Ricky copy, bought from Kays catalogues in 1977! Couple of mods; new tuners, nut etc but it's still basically the same cheap old plywood Hondo! TBH, it doesn't play well and it doesn't sound great either but it's been with me for 31 years and it'll probably still be here in another 30! I did all my first gigs as a musician with this bass in all the Punk venues across london, venues like the Marquee in Wardour St, the Rock Garden, The Hope & Anchor etc, etc. So it's just got too much sentimental value to ever part with.. 16.
Brian Wilson.
Good call! To that I would add Barry Adamson (Magazine), Dennis Dunnaway (Alice Cooper) and although Bilbo is being a bit duplicitous when he says 'who?', Paul McCartney definitely fits the bill for this thread ! Who's Miroslav Vitous anyway, when he's at home
 17.
To be honest Nik it is probably best for you to choose a date that suits you and nail it down. As time goes on, peoples availability changes making a vote pointless. If you book it they will come! Looking forward to seeing you all again ped
Hi Ped That's probably true enough... So what I'm doing is having a chat with a couple of people here about it and will come up with a cunning plan by the end of the week! Will send you a PM! Cheers Nik
 18.
Cheers Nik, excellent to see you and thanks for the kind words Hope the TV does the job, will dig out the remote asap. But it is........
Funny, I thought you were telling me to F.Off in Vulcan or something like that

 20. Went to see Merton's band 'Back In The Day' at The Crow's Nest in East Grinstead last night. Great band and the bass & drums were fabulous! Despite Merton's protests, he's a great player who knows how to use his gear to the max.. Good vibe all night helped by quite an attractive audience! Photo's are a bit blurry and this one was taken before the dancefloor literally filled up with women , but hopefully you'll get the gist... here's another.. Not sure what Merton was trying to say to me at this point, but I don't think it was "See, my right-hand technique really is improving" Cheers Mert; had a great night! Nik
 21.
Venues I can suggest are: The Malt Shovel, Horsham The Holbrook social club, Horsham The Green Dragon, Horsham The Railway, Crawley The Tilgate, Crawley Hope that's of some help!
Thanks for those! Not heard of most of those so that's great... Nik
 22.
5th June - GONE to a silver fox man. Yep. Comes with a handy remote control too. Perfectly good working order, just sitting in storage doing nothing so free for anyone who wants to come and get it. I think there's a dodgy old stand for it too, it's actually a stand for a Mitsubishi TV but the Sony sits on it fine. If it's in the storage place you can have that too. I'm in Redhill, South East Surrey. (edited to make title clearer)
Cheers Mert, It will be put to good use! Really enjoyed the gig last night.. Great band, loved the bass & drums and you had a very sexy audience too! Nik
 23.
Brilliant, Love it!
+1 stunning!
 24. Lovely example of the classic Wal Custom! I had 2 Wal Customs (fretted) in the 80's; my first bought direct from Wal in 1983 was stolen, and the second, which I bought to replace it with using the insurance money, just wasn't as good. So I traded it in for a Wal Pro 2e at the old Bass Centre in Wapping and still use the Pro models to this day.. I recently played WalMan's Custom and rediscovered just how good they are..
