  1. I can remember a time on Basschat when a gorgeous looking Lakland DJ5 like this one would be sold within hours of it being posted.. Such was the demand for these then, this one and the other excellent one that @lowregisterheadis selling, would have both gone in a couple of days. How times have changed! I had one of these for a few years about 10 years ago and I still think they're the best looking, best sounding and best playing of all the Fender Jazz 5 string clones that came onto the market over the last 10-15 years. Oh, and the low B string definition is superb too.. GLWTS πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  2. +1 That was such a great listen - Geldof is one of those rare individuals who draws you in as a storyteller, but when he's finished speaking you realise he's really a great teacher... Thanks to the OP for this thread, I'm really looking forward to listening to more of these podcasts! πŸ‘
  3. Brilliant amps these - unbelievably punchy and loud sounding, with a lot of tonal versatility.. GLWTS 😊
  4. Likewise Steve - it's been too long, on both counts !
  5. Apologies Stevie G aka @Stingray5 - I stand corrected! 😁 I've got some photos from that day too.. Must try and dig them out. Hope you're keeping well btw Steve?
  6. Good job I'm not sensible then... 😁 Actually, I've too many basses (and not enough gigs) right now, otherwise this would be very tempting..
  7. Excellent demo - really good playing IMHO and the bass sounds great! GLWTS 😊
  8. What a wonderful story, Shelly and congrats on your 10th anniversary! 😊 I still remember the time you came to your first South East Bass Bash, which I'm guessing must have been 2011.. I think you spent ages grooving away in the Jam Room with @StevieG, drummer Paul from @Happy Jacks band The Junkyard Dogs and Nigel, aka @xilddx.. Probably where you met Colin too? Happy days... And as has been said already, here's to the next 10! 😊
  9. Got to echo everything that @Reggaebasshas said about Colin, aka @moley6knipe.. I've just bought some strings, a strap and some straplocks and my transaction with Colin went as smooth as the playing action on a shiny maple neck with some TI Flats on it! 😁 A pleasure to deal with you Colin and thanks for everything.. πŸ‘πŸ˜Š Cheers Nik
  10. If Carlsberg did Bass Guitars For Sale Ads, they'd probably be just like this, and would be best in the whole wide world.... 😁
  11. Now that's what you call a 'head-turner'! πŸ‘ And you can rest assured that the bass line for 'I Predict A Riot' will have been played properly on it a fair few times at least .. ... unlike my efforts where I've murdered that bassline numerous times at The ol' Dog 'n' Duck late on a Saturday night! 😬😁 GLWTS 😊
  12. Couldn't agree more with you - this is a classic hand-made British bass from what was a great era of innovative bass design in this country.. Here's a YouTube clip of what they sound like... GLWTS
  13. Great idea... About time 'all things bass' , especially world leading craftsmanship, got the recognition it deserves in this country !! 😁 GLWTS by the way.. πŸ‘
  14. Echoing all the above comments... I'm really sorry to hear this news Tom and am sending best wishes for your recovery! GLWTS also and I hope you get back to being able to play again soon. Nik
  15. "Only 3 words but misspelt one" πŸ˜‚ I'm surprised you've had no offers either Paul. It looks like a very beautiful instrument to me...
  16. I think these stories abound about so many celebrities /notable people... I'm a life-long Bowie fan and these days, since his passing in 2016, it's hard to find anyone anywhere going to print (so to speak) being critical of his personality. But there are plenty of stories about what an insufferable ego manic he was during long phases of his career - particularly the 1970s... Knowing all that about Bowie doesn't change my opinion about his musical/artistic output, though I suspect if I'd met him and he'd been nasty or rude to me personally, I might feel differently. I'm with @Dad3353 in knowing full well that the world wouldn't miss any of my songs - hell, they don't even know about them anyway thankfully! But I think that the numbers infer that there literally are millions of people who would miss a fair number of McCartney's songs if they were somehow to be withdrawn from the Earth's pop music playlist.
  17. Stop it... My dilithium crystals can'nae take it Captain! 😁
  18. Not sure why, but the words 'Throbbing Gristle' came to mind when I looked at these photos.. πŸ€”πŸ˜¬πŸ˜ All silliness aside, it looks like an absolute killer of an amp and GLWTS, πŸ‘
  19. @lowdown... I'm just curious how you would determine talent? As for the source of McCartney's reputed musical genius, I doubt it came from any divine intervention - more like a combination of some fortuitous circumstances in his early life, plus inate musical instinct and ability, plus a lot of hard work and an ability to focus on what he wanted to achieve...
  20. +1 I've always rated the vintage Yamaha BB range of basses, having had a 300, 400 and 800 over the years which were all great in their own way.. But this one must be like the 'One Ring' of the BB range right? One bass to rule them all, etc, etc... 😁
