This week we had 4 gigs but one of them was in Bognor on a Friday and there was simply no way I was going to make soundcheck or even the start of the gig. So I depped it out.
That's only 7 miles from where me and Walman live CK so you could've popped in for some tea!! Still, being Bognor, I think you did the right thing!!
Tight as Gordon Brown caught between a Morie poll and Bank of England interest rates.
2.
If we post pics of the instrument we are after it might jog memories!
Good point! Here's the one I'd like to rediscover. A 1978 USA BC Rich Eagle with a Bill Lawrence bridge pick up...I've not seen it since 1996 but would love to find it again... One of the best basses I've ever owned!
 3.
The problem with EQ'ing and new strings is it does not relieve the GAS
Very true!!
 4.
....and we're back after a short break should you be in the Woolston area of Southampton and cross the threshold of The Swan Not sure whether we are a 4 piece, one of two versions of a 5 piece, or even a 6 piece yet, but that's the fun of the occasion
Good luck tonight Al, I'm gigging tonight as well in Storrington, so will catch up with you guys at one of your next ones! Have a good one Nik
 5. Great looking rig! Nice bass too.....
 6.
Thats a classy looking Jazz . I 100% agree about the MOP inlays !
+1 That bass looks so funky to me.. Kind of very 70's NYC and ultra-cool! There was a picture of one just like it in the first bass guitar book I learnt from back in the day...
 7. Hi Stewart, The basses you've had suggested are pretty good as are the ones you have already. I'd just add to the other comments that both the tones you describe in your OP as being the ones you want to achieve, I can get easily out of my Fender Roscoe Beck 5 and there happens to be one of those for sale at the moment here on Basschat. The Sei basses for sale here both have Bartolini p/ups I think and though they are a popular choice of p/up, maybe they won't be your cup of tea? A couple of other bass suggestions for you to think about.. I had an MTD bass a while back and that was pretty good (think there's a nice one on Ebay at the moment) and also, what about a Lakland DJ5 ? On the amp front, I don't know much about SWR heads but I've just bought 2 SWR cabs and they're pretty impressive! Seems like you're facing what Buddhism calls 'the mire of options' Good luck with it all! Nik
 8. Got it! Must admit I wondered why but it all makes perfect sense now as those basses are beautiful! Good luck with it all...
 9. Just bought Pete's Aria fretless and got the chance to meet up with him in Brighton, rather than use a courier, which was much preferred as it's always good to meet fellow Basschat members face to face. To echo everyone else's sentiments here, Pete's great to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again. More than that, he's "a thoroughly good chap" as the Beedster said and that counts for everything in my book! Thanks for the bass by the way, Pete.. It's really amazing and is exactly as I thought it would be! In fact, it's so good it even makes my fretless playing sound half-decent
 10.
Inspired by Nick's thread on Sussex/Surrey gigs, I thought I'd see if anyone can recommend venues amenable to The Reluctant's unique brand of original Brit Skunk (yes, we have our very own Anglo Ska Funk genre). Please post away! Alex
Nice bass playing Alex! Just been on your Myspace and enjoyed it... great grooves! Our singer used to be in a Ska band and he's from the Brighton/Worthing area, so I'll ask him if he's got any suggestions for you, Hope you had a good gig last night!
 11. Thanks guys! That's really helpful.. Will pass the info onto Tony, our guitarist, who always books the gigs.. If we get any of those gigs, I'll let you know and just a thought, but can I say we were recommended by your bands? Cheers Nik
 12. Hi Folks, Just bought an SWR 210 Goliath Jnr from Bill which was a good move, as the cab is brilliant and Bill was a real pleasure to deal with.. He even went to the trouble of dropping the cab off at the Couriers for me. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with Bill again... Many thanks Nik
 13.
Not bad thanks, got an interesting little project on the go at the moment which I'll keep you in the loop about before unveiling to the wider world You doing ok?
Sounds interesting!!! Am OK thanks.. will PM / call you for a proper catch up!
 14.
this really is it got everything .I tried to make every bass i have ever owned to sound like this should of done it years ago . loverly sound great feel just sits but the most heavy bass i have ever owned
Very nice bass Ian! That era of 70s basses was renowned for heavy basses IIRC...
 15.
Very nice Jamie - im assuming from the shakky pics that the amp was blasting you in the face with RAW BASS POWER!!!! Looks sweet as mate, bet it sounds like a monster. Nice Demolition rig!
I was wondering about that too, Luke!! Those basses and that rig deserve better
 16.
Thanx man ...love your signature !! so many basses..so little time ...SO TRUE !!
Cheers! Just wish it wasn't true sometimes....
 17.
MTD Kingston. Best playing bass I have ever played by far. I just hated the sound. Of course I should have kept it and swapped out the electronics but I needed the cash. Paul.
I did the same thing too!! Great playing basses the MTDs... Most of all though, I really regret selling my Wal Pro bass in 1998. It was one of the very rare JG series with leather scratchplate that now fetch serious money.. I really needed the money at the time so I sold it to a mate, Leigh Gorman of BowWowWow, and everynow and again, I watch YouTube clips of Leigh gigging with the bass in the States just to make myself feel more miserable. On the other hand, Leigh's a great bass player so I know it's being used by someone who I really like & respect, so that cheers me up a bit!
 18. Cheers Mert - will do! Thanks for the positive comments too... How's things with you? Nik
Nik, try Fastway Couriers for cheap shipping, they beat EVERYONE on costs at my old company, by a million miles. And they were good, too! Also like to add I've heard this cab being used and it sounded great with Nik's basses and GK head
19. Things 'For Sale' are moving pretty slow generally it seems and with something like this, even slower!! So it's now on Ebay here for anyone who's interested..
 20. Cool website... And very nice looking basses!
 21. Yes; the Roscoe Beck 5, the Wal and the BC Rich Eagle all do that for me
 22. Bass now SOLD - thanks for the interest!
 23. Hi Folks, Just wondering if you guys could recommend any venues you've played at recently as good gigs for a covers band to do? We play mainly in Sussex and usually nearer the coastal towns such as Brighton, Eastbourne, Burgess Hill, Worthing etc. The furtherst north we've travelled is East Grinstead at the Crow's Nest, but apart from that, not a lot else... We'd definitely like to explore new venues in places such as Horsham, Hayward's Heath, Chichester etc, and in any other areas that people think of as good music towns/venues?? The sort of music we play is anything from The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Prince through to U2, Bowie, Springsteen, Snow Patrol and The Killers. So if anyone's got some suggestions or recommendations, we'd be grateful! Thanks, Nik
 24.
If I hadn't the other month picked up my custom classic v I would've had been onto this one. Great price too!
+1 Great basses these; mine is just about the best five string I've played! There are active basses around with more extreme tonal variation than the RBV, but for simplicity of use and classic P & J tones, these are absolutely brilliant IMO. Good luck with the sale Russ...
