Very nice!
+1 Great price too! Luke's Streamer is a fabulous bass and made me rethink my stance on Warwicks, which wasn't positive having tried one some years ago and not getting on with it at all. Sounds like you've struck gold with this one!
Wise words from Scoop there, I like the two-thirds theory. Good call.
+1 Good thread by the way and it's got me thinking as to what is musical integrity anyway? To me it means being able to respect yourself as a person and a musician whatever the music is that you are playing.. Whether other people feel I have any musical integrity is a secondary concern. Personally, I'm very happy as I think I have 3 out of 3 at the moment. Using Scoop's music integrity calculator: 1) is the music good? - Great; I get to play Bowie, Prince, Killers etc.. How can it not be? 2) are the guys in the band a good laugh? - We're always having a laugh, especially during the gigs! 3) is the money good? - My music hobby pretty much pays for itself, so that's OK in my book. And long may it continue!

LMII vs GK700RB-II vs Warwick Profet 5.1
silverfoxnik replied to chris_pokkuri's topic in Amps and Cabs
mr_russ had a LM11 I think and now he uses a GK1001RB, so he'd be a good person to comment on this... -
Melanie C's ole bass player, Kim Khahn.. Awesome 'in the pocket' player and sings awesome harmonies at the same time.. GUH! Makes you sick ha ha!!
+1 on that Dood! But these three are amazing though; Tina Weymouth for playing stuff no-one else in her area of music (i.e. 70s american New Wave) was playing at the time Carol Kaye, who's discography speaks for itself Gail Ann Dorsey who has played in Bowie's band for years!
Sorry one and all...but another 'I've just be listening to...' story! Just on the way back from Gatwick after a day of biz in Denmark (no, we're not buying TC Electronic as a result of their merger with Gibson being called off which personally I think was a great big favour to TC Electronic!) and I decided to refrain from yet another delve into the back catalogue of Level 42 again and lighted upon Roxy Musics Flesh and Blood album in the 'ol iPhone. I used to play the life out of 'Same Old Scene' when it came out on cassette and so proceeded to play it since a recent reminder of just how good it is was made not so long ago when the BBC prog "Ashes to Ashes' was being aired. Excellent bass lines again and indeed through out the whole album. Anyone remember who was on bass then in the old Roxy? Sounds like the same guy on 'Avalon' which followed this album? Ciao Ian
I thought it was Gary Tibbs but according to the Wiki, it's Gary Tibbs on some tracks, a guy called Neil Jason who I've never heard of on a few and Alan Spenner on the others..
You've got to add about 22% to the £600 for duty/vat and then probably about £75 for shipping So thats £600 plus £125 plus £75 = £800, which is a good deal
Definitely!
Nik, buying quality gear doesnt mean your a snob does it? Have I got it wrong? Oh Sh1t what am I then with my little band of warriors?
Not at all! You're a connoisseur, like many people here on Basschat. That is: 'A person with expert knowledge or training' or 'A person of informed and discriminating taste' I think that's a fair description, just like being a connoisseur of fine wines or fine art....
Thank you all. I am still mulling things over. I would LOVE to try them all but may have to just punt for one in the end. I have tried the tribute l2500 and they are good, just wondering if the american ones differ. (I assume they use same dimensions). If the stingray has the narrower string spacing I think thats got to be a fore-runner. I'm watching a few basses on evil-bay and there is a potential musicman in a well respected american store. The G&L is only £450 on ebay day to go, no bids. STILL lots to considder. Funny you mention the Roscoe beck, it caught my eye in the sale thread and there is one at a good price in the same store as the musicman. I love active but the beck is rather beautiful though..... oh man I thought I had it down to 4 basses and another option comes along.
There's a Roscoe Beck for sale second-hand at the moment in a UK shop??? Buy it now! They're discontinued and they don't come up for sale that often, so it'll be an investment as well as a great bass to play and own.
Having recently decided to upgrade my rig (from an Ibanez GSR through a Zoom B2 into the PA. Cheap as chips!), I went in expecting to spend about £2000. Having tried 6 amps and 17 basses, I came away with a MIM Jazz (plus new bridge and pickups), Ibanez SR300 and a Marshall MB 4210, so with the unexpected change, I'm buying a car to get to rehearsals! I tried lots of expensive basses, but those two felt right to me, and the Marshall gave the volume and tone I wanted. So each to their own, I just hope people are buying what is right for THEM, not because of what is written on the headstock or resale value.
+1 That's the important bit, getting what is right for you as a player. What feels right and what sounds right should come first. After that, looks come into it I suppose but for me, it's never been the brand of a bass or bass amp, it's the sound that matters. I used to have a '66 Fender Jazz which cost me a lot of money 15 years ago but I sold it on because I didn't like the sound of it, nor the way it played. In fact, I much prefered the sound and feel of the '84 Tokai Jazzsound that I had.. Having said all that, I do have a Wal, so I'm probably a bass snob just by virtue of owning that

Having had both a Lakland DJ5 and a SR5, I think the first thing to say is that they are very different basses. The Lakland string spacing is 19mm and I think the SR5 is something like 17-18mm. doesn't soun dlike much but it is when you play it. Also, the DJ5 is a 35" neck as opposed to the SR5, which is 34" scale. The SR5's I've played have all had excellent low B's but then so did the DJ5. Problem is, with basses that are this different in feel, it'd be best to try before you buy.. but I realise that isn't always possible. I've also had a chance to play on a USA G&L2500 and one of the Tribute models too and they are great basses. More versatile tonally than the SR5 and I personally prefered that. From a value for money point of view, I don't think you could beat the Tribute L2500. Good luck with it!
Would love to, but unfortunately can't pursuade the wife
I'm totally with you on this one Pete - i kind of do the same when sitting in the car and the indicators are flashing... Machines are there to be 'metronomic' and humans are there to put in the feel and the swing..
