Hi Folks, Just upgrading my rig to include an SWR Triad and an SWR 210, so am putting up this Peavey 410 TVX for sale for £100. On Ebay at the moment, these go for anything from £90 to £150, so I think £100 isn't a bad deal! I bought it last year from martinbass7750 for a £100 and it's been bloody brilliant to be honest.. IMO, these cabs are seriously under-rated. The reason I'm moving it on is that I decided wanted a 1x15 in my rig without having a seperate 1x15 and a seperate 410 to lug around, hence the purchase of the Triad from Lee-Man, otherwise I'd be keeping this cab which I've done about 30 gigs with it and it's never let me down. It cost me about £35 to ship when I got it via APC and I realise that's an obstacle for a lot of people, so I'm happy to drive up to 50 miles for the cost of the fuel to deliver it if that helps? If you're interested but further away, APC are very good value and I could investigate that for you though there's obviously other couriers around. It's working perfectly and I put some castors on it (one of which is a bit worse for wear now) to help move it around as it's pretty heavy! The spec is almost the same as this latest model, here: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/74526 It's in pretty good condition but not perfect to be honest. But having said all that, you won't be disappointed and for the money, it is excellent at reproducing frequencies down to 30hz ! For low B strings, it's fantastic! If you want any more info or are interested, just send me a PM. Thanks for looking. Cheers Nik

Bass now SOLD - thanks for the interest! Hi Folks, I've just been upgrading my rig with a couple of SWR cabs and that, coupled with the need to streamline my collection of basses down to a maximum of 5, which means that I'm putting this great little P Bass clone up for sale. I bought it about a year or so ago from TheButler here on the forum when it was Bassworld or Basstalk (I think) in order to satisfy my P Bass GAS at the time and it's served me pretty well since then. It's been my main 'noodling' bass; the one that gets used a lot at home for working stuff out or just general practice but as far as gigs go, it hasn't been used at all. Sound-wise, it's got that great P Bass thump to it and it is surprisingly a very loud bass; both unplugged and in terms of the output from the Kent Armstrong p/ups. It sustains well and the harmonics ring out for days.. The neck profile is very comfortable -sort of inbetween a P and a J bass, but how to describe that is difficult.. All I can offer as a reference is that it's a more comfortable neck profile than my Wal but not as comfortable as my BC Rich. I've no idea what the constituent parts are but someone has taken time to get the whole Sid Viscious/Green Day 70's retro look together and though it may not be anybody elses cup of tea, it certainly worked for me!! It's by no means perfect cosmetically and the case has definitely seen better days. But it does play well and sounds pretty authentic. It could do with the two pots being given a clean and probably a set-up as there's a little bit of fret buzz on the G & D strings around the octave mark.. For those of you who are eagle-eyed, you'll notice that the poles on the pick up are a bit proud of the casing which has never troubled me, but might do others. AFAIK, it's an easy fix but not something I ever needed to do.. Otherwise, I think it's a great little back-up bass for the money.. And I'm sure TheButler or mr_russ who have both played it would back me up on that. There's been a lot of comments lately on the forum about prices being charged so just to be absolutely clear about what I'm asking and why: I paid £130 for it and about a tenner in postage and I had it set up by Graham Wheeler when I got it which cost me £30, so all in all, it cost me about £170. So I'm looking for about £140 for it plus the shipping. Anyone based nearby is welcome to come and give it a whirl and have a cuppa & a chat too see if they like it before they buy. I don't have any sounclips but I do have other pictures if you're interested and would like to see more - just PM me for details. Hope that all makes sense and thanks for looking. Cheers Nik (P.S. sorry if the photos are too big..)
He then asked me what bass I had, and I told him it was nothing special at all, and he told me i could use his pre-CBS 1965 Fender Jazz, that he had even been on telly with him. I jumped at the opportunity, and then felt more nervous than i ever have before a gig knowing he would be watching me, and i would be playing a very special bass. When it materialised and i plugged it in, i nearly fainted when it wouldn't make a sound, only to find out it was a dodgy cable I tuned it up and it sounded great, even at low volumes. It was sunburst, had a tort pickguard, a tug bar, three control black knobs with the white lines, and had a signature that had been burnt(???) into the finish beside the controls. It was a dream to play, and really sounded great. I felt unworthy. Very possibly my best gig ever.
Great story!!

WoT - That's a very sexy set-up!

Both lovely basses DJ, but the Bolin in particular is exceptional! I've never seen a nicer looking single-cut bass...

Just home from playing someone's 40th Birthday Party. They had a marquee in their back garden which was fine until the rain started to come down! Punters loved it though, even after 2 and a half hours of listening to us.. Can't go wrong with a good crowd and a good buffet IMO
Seek out a bass with a bridge with adjustable action, intonation and spacing Warwick, for example. Some commercially available models offer it - I can't remember for sure, but I'm sure that Hipshot, ABM or Schaller do such an item. Kahler do the 2400 series, which is back in production. Personally, I seem to favour about 17.5 to 18mm. The common spacings all seem to lie between 16.5 and 19mm from what I've seen.
+1 Good advice! I can't get on with the narrow spacings such as 17-18mm, prefering the slightly wider 19mm which my Roscoe Beck V has and so does the Fender Jazz USA 5.. Spectors and some Warwicks have quite a narrow string spacing from what I remember? It'd be a good idea to list them all model by model as you suggest.

Boosting output from one amp to another amp
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hello mate! I do believe RTFM is "Read The F...ing Manual!" Otherwise, I have used my Trace head both as a pre, taking the signal from the FX out, and as a power stage by feeding the signal from my pre into the FX return side of the loop. It might be possible to introduce a device between the pre and power to increase the voltage a bit... A volume pedal with a bit of gain or one of those SD pick-up boosters. It'd be good if you could measure the voltage to ensure you're not driving the power amp input too hard, though.
I should leave now really....! Thanks for those ideas guy! Will ponder on this as I'm sitting watching the Pirates of f*****ng Penzance this afternoon at the theatre - will keep me awake! Nick - it's a wierd, old Carlsbro 300w amp that I picked up off the Beedster.. -
Hi Folks, Just acquired some recycled Harry Potter games for our son courtesy of budgetbassist who was a real star about it all. Highly recommended Basschat person!!! Thanks Sam... Nik

Our son will love it... but he doesn't know about it yet as we're waiting from his birthday soon.. Cruel, heartless parents that we are! Nik -
Boosting output from one amp to another amp
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Repairs and Technical
Depends on the amp. Most amps have a pre-amp out or effects send that does not break the signal (parallel effects sent) so lead out of that and into the power amp. You would have to RTFM to find the output voltabe though.
Sorry BF, being very thick this morning - whats RTFM? The GK 700 has a variable DI out which I use to link to the band's PA and I did wonder if I could somehow split that signal and have a lead into the PA and one into the power amp? Normally, I use the FX send to drive my Zoom B2 1u and I did try that out but found out that it's quite a low output signal, so that didn't work either. One way I thought might easily work would be to use the DI out on the Zoom but that'd only be the sound of the Zoom going into power amp, as opposed to the e.q. from the GK which I really like... So am now feeling a bit like 'Confused.com' of bit Littlehampton! -
Hi Folks, I use a GK 700RB with an SWR Triad which is great, but I've also got a seperate 300w power amp that I'd like to be able to use so that I can (very occasionally) drive an SWR 210 as well. The Triad is a 4 ohm cab as is the 210, and that's too much in terms of ohms for my 700RB to cope with.. Hence the need to use the power amp if I want to run 2 x 4 ohm cabs.. So, I wondered if anyone has got any ideas as to what is the best way for me to drive the power amp at the input stage? As someone who knows more about these things than me said, I neede an input of approx 1 volt to get the best from the power amp?? Hope that makes sense and thanks for looking.. Cheers Nik
I know that someone has a special place in their hearts for this, so I am just bringing it to their attention again.
Needs to be a special place next to their wallets really Owen! Just to echo other sentiments expressed here that Owen is an absolute gent, so anyone who buys this will not be disappointed.. Good luck with the sale and have another BUMP!
hmmm, okay i guess that makes it more clear, so pretty much the same hardware, different factories on different continents.. are the g&l tributes still pretty playable basses then? i guess i should try one... but where!
At last year's SE Bass Bash, I played both a USA G&L L2500 and a Tribute L2500 - one after the other - and there wasn't that much in it to be honest from a sound/playability point of view. There may have been discernible differences in terms of construction, woods, finishing etc but I couldn't tell that in the dark rehearsal studio we were in that day. Both very nice basses!

1977`SHERGOLD MODULATOR 2 BASS( WITHDRAWN TO EBAY)
I think you should edit this into your first post. And make it doubly clear that you're in Aus. gl with the sale.
+1 Having said that, it's a good example of a quirky British bass from the 70s and as such, it's good to see! I would have thought it's worth between £250 and £350 on a UK Ebay auction but the shipping costs are probably going to be prohibitive for anyone here who's based in the UK. -
...Also just to add that these settings are for my in ears - I haven't even begun to work out the settings for live and recording use, so again expect them to be a work in progress!! Cheers ped
It all sounds good to me Ped! Quite amazing in fact. Nice playing too btw..
