Considering they didn't have a bass player, some of their songs have very memorable bass lines.. 'Light My Fire' and 'Lost Little Girl' spring to mind right now, but I'm certain there are some others too.. One of the great bands, IMHO!

Great pictures again Homer! The Bass looks the business too
Nik I took some lessons from a girl who used to teach in Bognor some time back, but I am not too sure whether she is still there. She used to work in a studio with the guy my drummer had some lessons with. I shall check to see if either / both are still about in Bognor. She was good, but is blind so if you were after pointers on hand positioning it might be a problem - and now I shall stop because however I try to word this it seems to come out lewd
Thanks Al, Sensible that you refrained from continuing... But let's do that over a pint next week? Nik

Hi Folks, I've got 2 months of no gigging, so I'm looking to brush up on my playing and my technique before the gigs start again in April.. So I thought I'd maybe have a few lessons to see how, with the help of someone totally objective, I can improve what I do.. So does anyone know of any good bass tutors in my neck of the woods, which is the Littlehampton, Worthing and Bognor Regis area of West Sussex? Any help, much appreciated, thanks! Cheers Nik
Yeah, it's great - I'm able to groove properly again. Glad you're enjoying the Jazz, hope you sell the other pups. I think the extra inch of scale on the DJ takes a while to adjust to, I can see why you didn't want to be switching mid gig. All the best matey
Cheers Isaac. See you soon and maybe next time I'm at Bernie's I'll give you a call... -
Great looking set up Russ... The new amp/speaker combination with your SR5 HH must sound absolutely brilliant and very LOUD!! I'll call you next time I'm rehearsing in Woodingdean with the band, just so I can hear you practicing over the Downs
I know its a "Girlie" song, but we played it the other night with a great sax player and it just one of those songs that makes you tingle! great bass line, soulful, funky, walking and easy, just a great end of an evening smoochy song, love it. Anyone else been there? if you know what I mean
It's a great song, almost too classy for pop music.. And she definitely had star quality and a unique voice!
Nik, why d'you sell me such a nice bass - I've gone nuts on the practise front and now I've got numbness and tendon pain in both my hands and forearms... So, whatever exercises you adopt, go easy!
Sorry about that Isaac! I'll take your advice on that I think... Very glad to hear you're still enjoying the DJ5 and that the honeymoon period is far from over! I've got to say that I'm having a great time with the Fender 5 now Bernie's sorted the pick ups out for me -
Sweet basses, I like the slimmer headstocks, the SB-2 has the p bass killer pup too, more growl than the fender, the GAS has started I see...
Yep - I've always had the GAS for a G&L, Nig and these marvelous examples aren't helping much! Still as suffering goes, it could be worse....
He's had one of everything Keep meaning to try one in Brighton Guitars, but at present my GAS has pretty much subsided
If only!! The KSD's are good value for the money.... But as bass_ferret says, they're not GB's or Sadowsky's, Wals etc..Put an EBS pre-amp in one and they get a lot better though...
I sold a Pro fretless this year (and I paid for another one but lost the money due to an Ebay scam) but these five are the ones that I still have. But I'm planning to sell the midi Wal since I don't use it and I think some other bassplayer with a vivid imagination can do great things with it..
Wal-tastic!!
The trouble for me was that I had so many bass heroes.. I like Marcus Miller (so I bought a Fender Jazz), Mark King (Jaydee, Status, Alembic), Mick Karn, John Giblin (Wal), etc.. In the end I bought around 85 basses during the last 23 years and I own around 19 for the moment. I have been buying basses like crazy the last two years with extreme GAS since I just wanted to have every bass I had ever wanted..I had a lot of gigs so I was able to financially.. Finally I realised that after a long search the one bass that does it all for me is a Wal (I bought six Wal basses last year..) and my GAS is gone, what a relief and I dare not to think of all the money I have invested ànd lost during that long search...
Glad you've found the one bass for you (or is it, the six basses?). But, 6 Wal basses is a hell of a lot of £££££!! Are the all Custom models?

Between £100 and £150 depending on the market at the time, I'd say...
Recently listened to the Radio 2 documentay about the vastly under rated guitartist the late-great John McGeoch. I have been a big fan of his work with the Banshees / Armoury Show / PIL but except for ‘Shot By Both Sides’ , I wasn’t aware of his early stuff with Magazine. Over the weekend I got some Magazine CD’s and I was amazed to find out how good the bass lines were by Barry Adamson. Sounds like some fretless work going on. Can anyone suggest anymore Barry Adamson stuff….?
+1 He's a great player!! I've always liked his work the most with the brilliant and way ahead of their time 'Magazine'.. And though I have 2 of his later solo albums, which are really cool, they're not about him as a bass player..

Nice collection! I particularly like the look of the G&L; what Roger Waters would pick up if he was a young kid today just starting out...
Then take out loads of credit cards, cane them all into the red and fake your own death
I was just getting all blissed out and buddist like with what Paul, the had to say when I saw Ped's post Absolutely brilliant and Steve Coogan definitely rocks!! Think I agree with stingrayfan that there's something in the 'thrill of the chase' and kevbass has accurately/uncannily described the mental processes that I've used on loads of occassions to justify and fool myself into thinking I have good reasons for the latest acquisition or latest sale.. Glad to see I'm not alone on this
