1.
Haven't tried the DI yet, but the tuner is superb. Very stable and accurate. Cheers, Alun
The only time I've tried the DI out, it was very 'hot' and I couldn't find a way to lower the output so now I just use the DI out on my GK amp instead. I'll have a look at the manual and see if there's anything about how to do it.. Totally agree about the Tuner; it's very good!
 2.
Very slick, very black and very R&R
Perfectly put! That looks cool as F***!
 3.
You could always have a look at my subscription copy when we have that pint Nik. I shall be ready to prostrate myself in full Waynes World "We're not worthy" mode
Hi Al, You free on the 27th for a swift half to clear away the Xmas lethargy and all that...? Nik
 4.
They do look similar but a good Wal is just so much better in terms of sound, flexibility and construction. Then there is the small matter of re-sale value! With a fair bit of tinkering it is possible to get some great sounds and playability from a Marathon. It would be interesting to compare at a Basschat bash sometime.
Hopefully, there's going to be a Basschat gathering in 2008, so maybe we can make that happen? They're both quirky 70s British basses, which personally, I've always liked.. See you then and have a good Xmas in the meantime!
 5.
I'm hearing Hondo and Kay are in a bidding war for the Nik'sBurningOrgan signature bass... Like Nik does, you'll be able to swap it for something different every three months.
I think the current bid is 0.0001p and decreasing! The band always wind me up about how many basses I've had since May '06, but seriously, the RBV has put paid to that! Mind you, what's that old saying about glasshouses and throwing stones, Matt?
 6.
I have just read/caught up on this thread. Thanks to everyone for the comments thus far, positive and negative. Obviously the net isn't for everyone and others don't like large groups and preferred the early days when the forum was really small and I could check it on my Nokia WAP phone(!!). All I have to add is that of late the forum has become really good fun for me personally - I mentioned to kiwi the other day in fact that I feel the foum is doing really well and has a great bunch of members on board. I, like others, avoid posts that I don't want to read or comment on, but am finding there isn't enough time to read and comment on the ones that DO interest me which is fantastic. I have made lots of friends through the forum, it continues to be an excellent melting pot of ideas, tastes, styles and opinions (as covered nicely by Jakesbass) and I for one am enjoying it all the more for that. But them I am very easy going! This place is what you make it. You might say I am biased but I love it ;0)
+1 to all of that Ped... Have a good one mate! Interesting to see that on the Poll, the majority of people who've voted think that the best way to manage things is through members being more responsible and that is definitely an opinion I share.. Though the Basschat Forum obviously belongs to the few administrators that started it earlier in the year (step forward and take a well deserved bow, chaps), I feel like this is 'our forum' and as such, it's up to all of us to look after it. As Ped says, "This place is what you make it"
 7.
and he thinks he is getting it back too lol lol *rubs hands together* mwah ha ha ha ha!!! I'm hoping to write a review for you good folk soon, Vs the EBS Multicomp!
That'll be interesting to see...
 8.
I will go and buy it today too - well done Nik, nice one. Please let us know when your signature bass is launched! ped
Cheers Ped! Well obviously, I'm in talks now with several interested parties... Chad Valley I think they're called
 9.
so you won't be having a signing session then?
Perhaps, in a few years time when Borders or Waterstone decide Littlehampton is worthy of their presence.. Until then, obscurity beckons yet again "Congrats Nik .. I might even have to go out and buy this issue !" Cheers Nick! As a fellow G&L user, can't you acquire a free copy, courtesy of Stingrayfan as a show of solidarity amongst the G&L fraternity??
 10.
This is now mine.... http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/view/3948.html Its possibly the best jazz bass I have ever played and thats saying something. I am really hoping that I can now just stop switching basses every few months :-) I have always wanted a NYC Sadowsky and always felt I shouldnt as I am not a pro player but my advice to anyone is get the best bass you can afford and want as you will always be craving it till you get it... Anyway hope you like the pics, the sound is killer! Steve
Beautiful looking bass Steve! Though I have to say I doubt it's cured your GAS permanently.. But enjoy the freedom while it lasts!!
 11.
Easy. The only bass I have.
That is so cool! It reminds me a bit of my Wal... I must admit to having always wanted a Shergold but never got around to it but I may have to change that now
 12. Hi Folks, Like a lot of you, I've been reading some of the more contentious posts lately. Some of those that spring to mind are the 'I Hate Jazz', 'I Hate Jamiroquoi/JK' and the 'ERBs' too name just a few. I've read them, contributed to them and enjoyed some of what's been written by members. But what's worrying me is that there seems to be a lot of unrest developing which IMHO isn't what should be happening here on Basschat, which after all is a brilliant Forum where we can indulge our love of ALL things bass and by extension, ALL things music. Plus, the opportunity to share thoughts, views, news etc with like minded people (i.e. musicians) is a real privilege. So, for my part, I'm aware that I've gone overboard a bit on one or two of my posts, so I think I'm going to back off from contributing to the more contentious topics until things calm down a bit here. And with that in mind I'm going to take this opportunity wish everyone here on Basschat a wonderful & peaceful Christmas & New Year and best wishes for 2008! Nik
 13.
Name a price and upload some pictures - that should get some interest going.
Good point!
 14. Hey Nig, Just seen this post.. What happened with the band (or am I reading this wrong)? All the best for Xmas & the New Year by the way... Nik
 15.
The Jan/Feb issue's Weekend Warrior is none other than our own "Silverfoxnik" Well done Nik. You're in some excellent company.
Cheers OBBM.. Was completely stitched up by Stingrayfan of course (Hi Matt ) ; I believe the magazine needed someone to help broaden it's appeal to the older, more miserable looking reader.. Haven't seen it yet but will lounge around the newsagent tomorrow trying to look cool, waiting desperately for someone to buy the magazine. Which in Littlehampton, could be a long wait!!
 16.
nice tone. shame about the song i love the p-bass tone on this. and the bass line it pretty good too
+1 Very funky and it sounds great too!
 17.
I really like a lot of these basses. and John Cusack movies. What's happening to me?
You're not alone on this one paul, the.. These basses are really cool and Hi-Fidelity (amongst many others) is a great John Cusack movie.
 18. Good idea for thread.. Mike Tobias of Tobias and now MTD basses fame personally answers his emails, genuinely wants to help and really knows his stuff! And some years back, before things got difficult, Pete (The Fish) Stevens and Ian (Wal) Waller at Wal were just brilliant at looking after their customers! Martin Petersen at The Gallery in Camden is a real gent! I'm sure there's some others who've been great along the way, but these are the first ones that sprung to mind...
 19. That's quite a walk from seven Sisters station!! I've no idea whether he's still there or not to be honest.. Wouldn't have thought he would be too difficult to track down though...
 20.
Just for you then Mr Wave I have a nice Tokai Hardpuncher that might also fit the bill
Fabulous looking bass!
 21.
I always try to send things recorded delivery, in this way ensuring that you and the buyer are always aware of an item. Previously I sold a guitar neck to Chris (Beedster) and it turned out the truss rod was buggerred. I refunded the money straight away, he returned the neck and we were both happy. This is the way to do business, and is made easier as part of a forum, rather than ebay where it appears the term caveat emptor is now entirely neccessary! For what it's worth, I'm happy waiting up to a week for delivery as long as the seller is in constant contact, and when the deal is done, I think it's only corteous to ask how they're getting on with the new item. If it was me, I'd be on the phone or emailing as soon as possible, just to find out what's gone on. I assume you have this information. I assume issues like this were the reason for having a feedback forum in the first place...
+ 1 to all of this and I agree with all the above comments about being courteous, keeping people informed, being upfront etc. I'm happy to say that all of my dealings with members here have been excellent so far and hopefully, they have found the same from me in return..
 22.
I had the Rockschool book and took a bass lesson with Henry at his house back in 1995.
Was that when he was living in Edmonton, North London, because that's where I had some lessons with him?
 23. Hi umcoo, Sorry to hear about your plight but there's some good advice being posted here I think, especially about being patient. I had a similar incident 2 years ago when Basschat was Bassworld and I thought I was about to lose both my money and the bass I was looking forward to receiving.. What I forgot to take into account was that the people on the forum are very diverse and lead very different lives and in this case, the person was a student who led a much more hectic/chaotic life than mine. So though everything got done in the end, it just took much longer.. The Mods are here to moderate and that would definitely be the best way to pursue the matter if it doesn't improve. Best of luck with it.. Nik
