1.
Not bad thanks Nik, all geared up for this thing they call "Christmas".. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh. Hmmm..... Nope. Almost tempted. Almost
Hi Merton, That's good news mate! Christmas is looming at long last, though I've tried to avoid it at all costs so far.. I wasn't trying to tempt you, though it's interesting to see that you can be swayed, even you! And on the subject of temptation... "Lovely basses, Nik. As you know I had a Hondo II exactly the same. I won't tell you how much I sold it for. It'll be too tempting" Cheers, paul, the! But best not to tell me as I might be equally swayed...
 2.
Nice collection Nick - still loving that Lakland, played it at the last bash and if you ever decide to sell it, let me know first!
Cheers Luke! That was good day.. Will do if I ever decide to sell it.. I must admit that I have considered what to do with the Lakland because the RBV is being used almost exclusively now and the Lakland is too good to have sitting around doing nothing.. I might trade it if the GAS strikes me for anything else? Nik
 3. Does someone get an award for having the 1000th Basschat bass??
 4.
+10000 to that. My Wal Pro 2E is pretty much semi-retired too, but if I could only rescue one bass it'd be that one, no question. Mine was my first good bass, I've had it for 21 years now and couldn't bear to part with it. Obviously I'd love to be able to rescue two basses so I could take my Shuker too...
"My Wal will never go. I've had it years. I can't say it was my first good bass because there were a few ok ones before it, but it has been with me through thick & thin, it sounds marvellous, and I love it!! I know I surprised Nik by saying the Wal was semi retired, but that's new toys for you. For some reason I am less worried about harm coming to the SUB5, which is NOT to say that the Wal will be wrapped in cotton wool and put away as a collectors item!! " +2 Echoing what both Rich and WalMan have said, mine would have to be my Wal Pro2e. It is the only bass that I can play without ever having to look at the fretboard to see what my hands are doing.. It's totally instictive I suppose because I've had Wals for almost 25 years now and especially, the old Pro models.. Also, every one of my other basses could be replaced more easily and i think that factor has to come into the equaition if you can only keep one bass. There's less of Wals around and they seem to get more expensive year after year! Al - perhaps you could say that your Wal is officially 'resting'
 5.
hiya Mike hope you're well. that's looking very nice.... btw, for everyone else, here's a photo of how it used to look. cheers G
It's scrubbed up remarkably well!! Looks more funky to my eyes....
 6.
+6 TOTAL = 12
+7 TOTAL = 19
 7.
Well my bass rig is very similar to most you guys: 2 x Bass Flight Cases 1 x 4 X 10 Cab 1 x Amp Head 1 x Pedal Board 1 x Cable / Tool Bag 1 x Stand Bag Its all heavy particularly at gigs on upper floors. I recently split my 4x10 combo to save my back but wouldnt even consider a smaller cab as the 4 loaded sounds way too good for compromise. The price of Rock n Roll I guess
Uncannily similar set-up! All bar the third bass I use for drop-tuned numbers.. And I totally agree about the 410; I use a Peavey 410 and find it better than a 115 or 210 but it does weigh quite a bit.. As you say, it's the 'price of Rock n Roll'.
 8.
Just got them in in time, this lot have been round to 'sus the joint'. Peter
..." 5, GOLD rings! 4 calling birds, 3 french hens, 2 turtle doves and a P Bass in a Pear Tree"
 9.
Luddite.
And very happy to be one!!
 10.
Hiya Nik My original US Lakky went to Homer. Alan found it too pristine and valuable to gig with which I can understand. I'm not sure where it lies now. My JO5 went to Wales in exchange for the TRB5P.
Interesting point; I sometimes feel that that about my DJ5.. It does feel too good to risk at a gig, whereas my other basses are much more 'lived in', so I relax when I'm playing them at gigs... The great thing about your collection is how varied it is, as 7string has already said!
 11.
You're still not gonna get mine!! But next time I see ya I will definitely let you have a play on it to help your GAS move in the right direction Anyhoo, I LOVE the Wal, RBV and Lakland. I think the RBV would be bigger than me though, it looks huuuuuuuuuuuuggge!
Cheers Merton! I'm looking forward to meeting your Groove 5 at some point.. There were 2 for sale recently on Ebay and I was soooo tempted to bid for one of them. But with Xmas coming up I thought I'd better be sensible and hang onto the money... The RBV isn't that big to be honest, it just looks that way!! Hope all's well with you by the way? "Congrats on a cool collection of basses !! The Wal just doesn't seem like it's that old. It just looks fantastic (apart from the headstock !!)." Cheers 7string! I've always liked the old 'cricket bat' stye Wal headstock, but I know most people don't like it.. It's a bit of a nightmare with neck dive etc, but for me it has an instantly recognisable quality to it which I think is how it should be when you design something.. It's a bit like Vintage cars vs Modern cars; the new ones are more streamlined, aerodynamic, fuel efficeint etc, etc but older cars somehow look more quirky and cool to me, if that makes sense?
 12.
sweeeet! Love the Fender, Lakland, BC Rich... and of course, the Wal ! LPB is my fave colour on the DJ too. What's the string spacing on the Fender RB? I'd quite like to try one out some day. cheers Gwil
Hi Gwil Cheers! Not sure what the exact spacing is at the nut end of the neck but the spacing at the bridge is 19mm.. I'll check it out and let you know. "Mighty impressive - may have to go and get some more myself now!" Hi BeLow, I thoroughly recommend it as a form of personal therapy
 13. Seriously good collection Peter! What happened to your Lakky's?
 14.
...the Eagle rocks !!!!
Cheers mxm! As does your avatar
 15.
5 GRAND ?!?! I nearly choked on my vino then.
+1.. beautiful as it is, I don't think any bass is worth £5000
 16.
That answers the question, Nik - and the neckplate will be plain, with nothing stamped on it -J.
Spot on again Jon! I can see you on Mastermind soon, specialist subject 'Rickenfakers, 1967-1980' or something like that
 17. That's a beautiful bit of wood! Lovely looking bass all round Bob...
 18.
That's right.... twas I...! I've picked up my fretless Wal Mk1 since then.... when's the next bash?
Thought so! Er...dunno is the obvious answer.. I'll put a post up on the Walbassesnaturally forum and see what happens.. Be good to see your fretless Wal
 19.
Nice basses Nik but you know you need a G&L to complete the set.
Thanks Matt, I'd love a L2500 to be honest but you're giving Nig too many ideas, especially as he's got a G&L 5 for sale at the moment!! In an ideal world, I'd add a G&L to my collection plus, I've always wanted a Status Groove 5 for some reason too... But that would be just plain greedy, wouldn't it? Thanks Peter! Funny enough, I didn't think the Wal would get much response from this post because it's the older Pro model and not the Custom version, but happily, people seem to like it..
 20.
Tis a Blue swirl or bowlingball blue emg powered G&L L5500, its got no issues a killer tone but sits on its stand doing nothing, my L2500 is my main 5'er so if you have a quality 4 string to trade give me a call, I prefer maple boards, all the best, nig.
That's a beauty, Nig! Good luck with the trade/sale...
 21.
Nik, that wal is hideous, send it over to me as firewood immediatly.....
Ok Nig - when do you want it? I'm free on the evening of Dec 24th when I shall be deliveing Wal firewood to deprived Basschat children the world over!! I'll try and find some time to pop over your way then..... Thanks for all the positive comments folks.. Homer; I will definitely quote you in my next line management meeting at work to see that I get raise next year.. Hi Cetera, I'm pretty sure we met at the Wal Bash in Jan 2006 if I'm not mistaken when you brought your Wal & a lovely USA Spector along?? Great sounding basses as I recall.. Shockwave; we definitely do need more BC Rich lurve on this forum as you said before.. They are very underrated basses that's for sure.. BB - glad to have helped cure the GAS though hopefully, not for too long! The Wal is heavy too so I'm pretty used to "a decent chunk of timber" around my neck, but invariably, the heavy basses I've had over the years have all sounded great, so it's been worth it! The Lakland is relatively light but still has a great tone too so that will help a bit. Jon, you are spot on sir! The tuners on my Hondo are unbranded Grover copies that came from another Ric clone. I bought them here on BC earlier this year (along with some other bits & bobs) in order to repair the much inferior original stock Hondo ones that were in a complete mess! The body of the Hondo is ply wood sadly and as for the neck plate, I'll have to check it when I get home later.. It's great to have an expert on these on the forum because there are so many Ric clones around these days all of differing qualities... Mine doesn't play that well any more and the electronics need a bit of work but I have a replacement scratchplate with all the pots that I could just use instead if I can find some time.. It was pretty good when I first had it though but I was much less demanding then I suppose.. Cheers Nik
 22. Hi Folks, Having enjoyed seeing some great basses in this section over the last 7 months or so, I thought it was about time I did the same and put my lot up for perusal. Just to say that your 'viewing pleasure' will be greatly enhanced if you can manage to whistle the Tubular Bells theme whilst at the same time, read aloud the names of the basses in a very pretentious English accent in the style of Viv Stanshall To get the ball rolling, my first ever gigging bass which still works but not very well.. Hondo II Ricky copy circa 1977 I did a lot of gigs with this bass in the late 70's so it's got huge sentimental value.. Next up, my main gigging bass at the moment, Fender Roscoe Beck V Very heavy for long gigs, but the neck is great to play and it's just a brilliant sounding bass! Currently acting as back up to the RBV, Lakland DJ5 Bought this from P-T-P here on Basschat in the summer.. Great vintage Jazz tones.. much too good to be a back up really. My two vintage basses, 1978 Wal Pro 2e & 1984 BC Rich Eagle, which I'll never sell, especially the Wal! The BC Rich is an awesome sounding bass and plays like a dream.. The Wal is my all-time favourite bass. And lastly, two 'cheap as chips' copies that satisfy my completely pointless need for a P bass & a Jazz clone. This was bought from The Butler here on Basschat and has a Kent Armstrong pick up that sound pretty good to my ears.. Bought this for £89 for a bit of fun, gave it a set-up and it's suprisingly good to play! Funny how it goes like that sometimes? Being sensible (which I'm not), I really should pare this lot down to 5 basses. But it's great fun having a P Bass clone, Jazz clone and a Ricky clone plus a thru-neck design in the collection (which the BC Rich is), as well as the two quality 5s for gigging along with the Wal. Sorry for the large photos and long post but hope you enjoyed some of it! Feedback, comments welcome and thanks for looking... Nik
 23.
Personally, I really like the look of the Aerodyne with the trays/covers!
+1 Great mix of vintage & modern vibes...
 24.
got myn with an EBS preamp for 600 ^_^
Very good price that!!!
 25. The guy from the Blockheads (Norman??) is getting on a bit too, but he's a great player! IMHO and making a sweeping generalisation, bass players age better than guitarists or drummers because we are more chilled out in comparison.. something to do with those low frequencies
