1.
It's all about context. Discussions about compromise are all relative because time, space and the immutable laws of physics are a compromise in an absolute sense, but all limitations are also gateways to liberation... stay thoughtful, Steve
That's good advice - not just about music but about life in general, I'd say! Totally beats 'my amp go up to No.11'
 2.
I think it may have sweated some of it out. Don't feel quite so cr@ppy today. HURRAH!!! As for work, I shall probably catch up on some stuff this weekend and have been doing bits pieces at least one of which I know has saved one office probably 2-3 days of someone typing details into software we use by adapting a bit of VBA I wrote to build import files for the software from data in an Excel spreadsheet, so not too guilty.
Hi Al, Glad to hear it went well and you're feeling a bit better.. Sorry not to have made it along too! Must catch up with you soon (before Xmas) to return your Rush DVD + CDs and have THAT PINT that I owe you!! Nik
 3.
Gorgeous!
+1, beautiful looking bass...
 4.
Any carrots?
Homer, surely you mean diced carrots and Creme de Menthe?? Seriously though WoT, well done for keeping going and retaining some dignity throughout!
 5.
Went to an audition for a band last night. Was really apprehensive, but knew I’d learnt the 4 songs they asked me to do, so gave it my best shot and got the job! Absolutely over the moon. Definitely makes all the work worthwhile. Now, just got to learn another 4 songs before Wednesday! Big thanks to Old Git for his help and support, it’s really appreciated.
Congratulations! That's a great feeling when it works out like that..
 6. Hi WoT, I'm interested in this depending on the dimensions and what john_the_bass wants to do as he got in first. It'd have to posted though as I'm on the south coast.. Please keep me in the loop, thanks. Nik
 7. That Groove 5 is a real beauty!
 8.
2x 10" 100W 16 ohm speakers from my Trace 2103H cabinet. Replaced last month becasue I thought one was blown, but: 1) I can't remember which one 2) I'm not convinced it ever was the problem as the rattle is still there after all and is a loose handle (search Amps and Cabs for the thread history, yes I'm a tit but I thought I'd checked them) Anythoo, I prefer the Eminence speakers that are in the cab now and these are getting in the way in my new pad. Since one is still definitely OK and I think the other one is too I figured I'd flog 2 for the price of one cheap one, then you may be lucky or you may be REALLY lucky! £17.50 for the pair They're heavy so will cost about a tenner to ship I think.
PM'd
 9. I had one of these a few years back - great bass and what Gareth says is completely spot on! Yours looks like it's in great condition too... I sold mine at the time in 2004 for about £550, so your pricing is pretty fair I'd say. Good luck with the sale John!
 10. Hi Folks, Just received a free set of Grolsch straplocks from Stewblack which has helped out massively with my BC Rich eagle bass, so that now the straplock assembly isn't digging into my ribs everytime I use it! Stew's a perfect gent to deal with and will happilly deal/trade/share with again. Not only that, he's also another of the shining examples of what makes Basschat such a great community to be part of! Cheers Nik
 11. Hi Owen, Just a quick post to say thanks for helping out with the spare saddle for the Gotoh bridge on my Roscoe Beck V. If there's anything I can do in return mate, please just ask. I doubt that this kind of generosity and support - i.e. offering help to repair a discontinued product that you can't get parts for and wanting no payment in return - for fellow bass colleagues exists on many other musician forums. But it's one of the great things about being a member of the bass community here.. And Owen is a perfect example of it in action.. Brilliant! Cheers Nik
 12.
That was me. It is no longer made. I looked and looked and looked. Eventually I bought a Badass V (£30 from Ebay.com) because it was the only thing I could find that would cover the real estate of the Gotoh. The good news for you is that I now have a Gotoh bridge with 3 working saddles on it so should be able to sort you out for nowt it you still need help. Let me know.
Hi Owen Thanks for sending the bridge through. I've managed to sort the problem now by using one saddle (hope that's OK) and will send it all back to you at the weekend. Anything I can do to help in return, just ask... Can't thank you enough! Cheers Nik
 13.
Have you seen the Planet waves Circuit Breaker Cables? I love 'em. The business end can be purchased separately (straight or right angle) if you prefer making your own cables. I stopped using the mute on my old amp when I started using PW CBs - Just press the little latching switch and the input is muted. I originally got it for quickly swapping from one bass to another, but its ideal for silent tuning with the SOS LED tuner as well. Since I started using my little Mark II I never even missed the lack of mute on it.
These sound great.. Are they expensive? I use a GK 700 RB amp and the mute switch is great but for changing basses, these cables sound really useful! The use of the A/B box is a good idea too but some of these units can add something unwanted to your sound, as I understand it..
 14. I've had a few Neck Thru basses over the years; a couple of BC Rich Eagles, a Tobias Classic 5, Warwick Thumb and the one thing I noticed with all of them was that they were more resonant than any Bolt-on basses I've had.. However, as Warwickhunt pointed out, sometimes those differences are felt rather than heard so maybe the benefit is felt in the playing of the bass rather than heard in the sound of it??
 15.
Whatever happened to Henry "King Thumb" Thomas, bass-playing star of BBC 80s show, Rockschool? I just stumbled on some clips of the show on YouTube and it gave me a scary flashback to sitting in front of a Betamax VCR, getting ready to press record. Anyone interested in nostalgia should watch from 2'30 in on this clip. Nice early G&L L2000 too!
When I lived in North London, Henry who lived about 2 miles away, was my bass teacher for about a year in 1995. He really helped me get my playing back on track after I'd stopped for about 3 years and was very rusty.. Great bloke, totally relaxed attitude to life, music, etc and told me that he took up bass after studying the cello which surprised me.. He did play with Paul Weller for a time and there are a few stories to tell about his treatment by 'the management' which I won't repeat here, but suffice to say, it doesn't reflect too well on PW.
 16. That's a beautiful bass. Played one of Bernie's 5's last year and it was amazing!
 17.
Looks like my singer/songwriter mate might be securing a support slot for a biggish UK act. My covers band has agreed to be his band for any live shows he does, which has prompted me to think that it might be a better idea to go with a decent 4x10" set-up than the 2x10" I've been thinking of lately. I've looked at Peavey's Tour 450 head & TVX410 4ohm cab before, and prices seem to be fairly consistent: Musik-Service.de: €729 delivered. Thomann: €784 delivered. MusicStore.de: €787 delivered. Local store: €800. I get to try it out and take it away if I like it. He'll have one for me to try in a week. I'm looking forward to it. Mark
That's great...Enjoy!
 18. This little lot always does the trick at the end of our set: Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode Town Called Malice - The Jam Don't Stop Me Now - Queen Let Me Entertain You - Robbie Williams Jump - Van Halen We have others that work too at various points in the set, but those 5 songs have never failed us ...yet!
 19. I don't see a problem. On the Dudepit and other bass sites, there are specific forums for different basses, e.g. Fender, MM, G&L, Wal etc, so why not have an ERB forum here. And considering we already have an EUB forum, a Recording forum, a Gigs forum etc - each of which allows people to focus in on their specific interests - then adding an ERB forum will just be further proof that Basschat is a really inclusive website that caters for all.
 20.
It's Medium Medium from Nottingham doing their underground classic "Hungry So Angry" from 1981. They were the band that should have put Nottingham on the map musically in the 80s, but despite great reviews they were never as well known or popular in this country as the other punk/funk bands of the time. Apparently they've been back in the studio for a new album, but since it was supposed to be released at the end of last year, I'm not holding my breath...
Thanks for the info. I don't remember them but they sound like they had something!
 21.
Hi Nik, I used to sounded pretty good with my max450 as well. Glad you're enjoying the cab, I just couldn't cope with the weight, as you know. My current rig doesn't have the low end of the tvx410. Don't sell it, you'll regret it Cheers Martin
Hi Martin I definitely won't sell it as it sounds pretty good to me. I also have a Peavey 210 TX which will do for smaller gigs and an old handmade 1x15 if ever needed, so as cabs go, I'm sorted now. Thanks Nik
 22.
Sorry that's because I'm a complete numpty and pasted in the wrong url. What I should have shown was this:
Really like this but can't remember who it is? Reminds me of Talking Heads around the 'Fear of Music', 'Remain in Light' era.. Always liked ACR too; very Manchester!
 23.
Just arrived from the States. So pleased with my L2000 Tribute, I bought another. Although this one has a maple neck and was S/H from Ebay. Came with a G&L case though. Cost me just over 350 quid inc delivery and all taxes. Slightly over the odds, but what the hell. Cleary used, with a few battle scars and rusty screws, but great low action and played-in neck. Doesn't feel squeaky clean new which is nice. With a fresh set of nickels on, it sounds great. Very playable, growly and bright. Haven't used in anger yet, so don't know how it'll sound loud. Will report back.
Stop it Matt - that's too nice.. Am seriously having GAS attack for L2500 now! Very cool looking bass, Nik
