1. IMHO, GAS attacks are always brought about by something in your gear not being quite right! So, you keep looking for something better until you find it. In the end, the stuff you really care about is the stuff you keep... Except for those rare moments of absolute madness or when personal cicumstances force you to have to get rid of gear - both of which I've experienced unfortunately. I agree that long periods of inactivity creates opportunities to become 'dissatisfied' with what you've got. And Forums such as Basschat, Talkbass etc are like having permanent shop windows in your home!! Not good for curing the GAS! Nik
 2.
Sorry chaps looks like that link it's been closed by Soundclick. Check this one from Zoom. The samples were made using the B2 http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/dem...mo_b2series.php
Thanks mate - much appreciated!
 3.
Hehe yeah he is called Eric and has graced every bass I have ever had. He helps my left hand technique - he's a critical little beast, especially for one with no arms or legs. Once when I was packing a bass to sell I didn't realise until I had sealed the box that Eric was still inside adjusting the tuners! Mighty annoying.
Great looking bass Ped! Are Vigier paying you a fee yet for such continually excellent promotion of their basses? If not, they should be... Nik
 4.
The link doesn't work for me, just puts me on the soundclick homepage.
I had the same problem? Is there any other info we need to find that clip, McGiver69? Thanks Nik
 5. Another BUMP before Ebay.. Thought I'd just show everyone what a great looking bass this is, again.
 6. Just sold my Hughes & Kettner 410 to Chris and had a good old chinwag about life, the universe and basses as per usual! Great way to spend time when selling something and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has yet to buy/sell/trade basses & bass gear with Chris...Though there can't be many of you left out there by now, I would've thought? Thanks mate....see you soon! Nik
 7.
This chap went the whole mile and recorded samples of every single effect and amp modeling in the B2. There you go, enjoy! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=584265
Thanks!
 8.
^ thanks, can you record some of the different synth sounds? Im looking into one for an industrial project, this could be the bargain ticket! Thanks, Parker
Sorry Parker, I don't have access to recording facilities I'm afraid. All I can suggest is that you google 'Zoom B2 sounclips'. I know there was a thread on Talkbass.com which had some I think...Sorry not to be able to be of more help. Nik
 9.
Whats the synth like on these?
Pretty good in my opinion and there's more than one synth sound as well which is very useful. I had a Digitech Bass Synth Wah pedal but sold it when I got the Zoom because I think the Zoom is better on all counts as it has more synth sounds to play with that are actually useable. With the Digitech setting, there was only one setting I found of any real use. Though that just may have been my taste of course... Another good thing about the Zoom is that it has more parameters you can play with to shape a sound. So, for example, it's great to have a Wah sound that you can also e.q. and compress at the same time, and then save it into one patch... Generally, it's much more versatile than buying individual pedals I think. Nik
 10.
Mmmm...1200 - the year of my birth too
LOL Very nice bass by the way!
 11.
Bargain. These really are great pedals - do exactly what they're designed to do and do it well. D.
Thursday morning BUMP!
 12.
hi Nik yes, I think I did have it then - did you have a spin on it? I can't quite remember. love the Eagle and Tobias too! Not so sure about those leather scratchplate Wals - very "old-school" Even though the Wal Pro II was a great sounding/playing bass, I've no regrets selling it, as I was concentrating on 5 stringers by then, and cos it couldn't have found a better home with Nik. The MachIII fretless was a case of last in, first out. A great bass that I realised I would use very often, other than to tinker with at home, and having £1500 invested in something and not using it a great deal wasn't ideal. It went to a good home too, in Californ-I-A. Dread to think how much it's market value is now Also I have a nice other fretless, so wasn't going to be fretless-less. The only reason I'm regretting it now is that I'm gassing for a nice 5 string frettless, and the Wal was *nice*. cheers G
No, I didn't try it out Gwil, because I've never really been able to play fretless, so I didn't want to embarass my self and especially on such a fine bass as that one was! Mind you, I had a go on Luke Ward's Ibanez lined fretless at the Bash last weekend and really enjoyed it, though it took quite a bit of encouragement from MacDaddy to get me to do it... That £1500 investment has probably gone up to something like £2500 I would have thought by now!!
 13.
Crikey, this one's still here too. Been a bit of a week for my old fivers, and I know I've already said it about my old Status, but someone should grab this while they can. The SUB itself is a great bass, and to be honest plays better than any of the EBMM5s I owned (all of which were considerably more expensive). The neck is very fast for a fiver, and the sound unplugged is really sweet, which is always a good sign. The addition of John East's magic PA turned a good bass into a great bass and as a gigging 5 string bass that's versatile, can take a few knocks and has some mojo I doubt anything at this price or a couple of hundred more would beat it. I had an SR5 and Bongo 5 HS at the same time as I owned this and the SUB was my fave by a long way. Nik mate, if it doesn't sell here stick it on the bay. You could replace the East preamp with the original and still get £500 for the bass, and then sell on the preamp or. better still, hang onto it for when the active urge returns, as for sure it will....
Hi Chris Thanks for the superlatives on the bass - it is as you say, a very versatile bass!! Yep, it definitely seems like you're the Sir Alex Ferguson of the For Sale forum, with ex-basses (like ex-players) all over the place keeping the wheels of the Basschat For Sale forum turning!! Funny you should mention it, because I have thought of putting the old circuit back in and Ebaying it at the weekend and then selling the John East circuit seperately here or on Ebay. But I have had two serious enquiries this week, so it may not come to that ..yet? Not sure whether 'the active urge' will return though....Well, not at my age, anyway Nik
 14.
i think that'll be the Wal MkIII fretless that I probably should have kept on to, here's a pic (courtesy of R5R5 who was the previous owner) edit: and why did I sell it? Because I already had a fretless bass, I thought I had *TOO MANY BASSES* and should get rid of it !!! LOL
Beautiful bass, Gwilym! IIRC, didn't you have that when I bought the Wal Pro 2e off you back in 2005? Nik And here's photos of the three basses I most regret not owning now: 70's BC Rich Eagle with Bill Lawrence bridge p/u Tobias Classic 5, 1989 Wal Pro with leather scratchplate, No.23 of only 24 made..Being played by Leigh Gorman of BowWowWow who I sold it to.
 15. Recently, after about a month or so of deliberating whether or not to buy Ped's Bacchus 24F - during which he very kindly recorded loads of different soundclips for me to hear because I was so indecisive - I kind of got to know Ped a little bit via lots of PMs going backwards and forwards. It seemed like he was a very genuine guy; totally upfront about stuff, extremely patient and most of all, very talented! When I finally got to meet him at last weekend's SE Bash in Guildford, it bizarrely turned out that he ended up buying something from me as oppossed to me buying his Bacchus bass!! Just so happened that I wanted to sell my Trace Elliott Dual Compressor and Ped snapped it up within about 5 minutes of me posting it for sale! So after that turn up for the books, it was great to meet Ped at long last and be able to confirm that he really is a great bloke and all those good qualities that he posseses are key to helping make Basschat the great Forum and community that it is! I looked to see if there had already been some feedback posted for Ped before doing this but couldn't see any, which kind of amazed me... So here's my chance to say thanks mate - pleasure doing business with you ..And if anyone else wants to put their comments forward here, that'd be really cool and probably long overdue! Nik
 16.
Funnily enough, I've just ordered the East Eq to fit to one of my Stingrays. I suppose the only issue I have with the Sub (and no offence meant) is that I've played a few in the past and found that they vary considerably in quality. Same as most basses I guess and if I had the time at the moment, I'd certainly try it out. I'm very glad to hear that I made the right choice in Eq though!!
The Eq is good, definitely. And yes, same make/model basses can vary so much it's incredible. At the Bash on Saturday, there were two USA G&L 5 strings and they sounded very different and felt very different to play. Can't comment on Subs as I've only ever owned this one, which is good!
 17.
Hi Nik, I'm good mate - you still got the Peavey amp or have you punted it on?
Glad to hear it Dave. Sad to say that the Peavey went to make way for my Hartke HA 3500A as I needed more volume.. Miss it though as it was so neat and functional! Still have my Peavey Mark IV head that I am definitely keping.. Thinking back, I should have bought another and bi-amped my rig... Nik
 18.
a very early Goodfellow...so early in fact it was serial no. 001. (I didn't know much about this bass but a friend of mine was in a band with Bernie a while back. He vaguely remembered that the whole thing was put together on his living room floor!) I picked it up for a very good price in a local backstreet 2nd hand music shop and it was my main (only) bass for many years. Although a bit tatty round the edges this was by far the best bass ever! In a moment of madness I swapped it for a Jaydee (which I didn't get on with). A year or so after I got rid of it I actually spotted it on some music shop's website where it was for sale once again but unfortunately there was just no way at that time that I had the funds to buy it back. Gutted. And of course, now it is long gone. Bah. Attached pic is from said music shop's website (complete with stuck on price tag!). peace c
Deepest sympathies!! I actually saw that bass for sale in the City Road pawn shop in Angel Islington in 1993, when I was hunting down a Wal bass that had been stolen from me. It was a brilliant bass and I kind of regret that I didn't buy it then, especially as it was serial number 001! Nik
 19.
If an instrument has a sweet spot its probably easier to find with 2 volumes. Down side is its not so easy to change your overall volume quickly on the instrument.
+ 1 That's my experience of it. I use the volume pedal on the Zoom B2 1.u to deal with the quick on/off volume stuff at the end of songs etc, but prefer the V/V/T set up.. Nik
 20.
Due to a number of the songs we're adding to our repetoire, I am seriously thinking baout investing in a 5 string (it will probably be at the expense of my Bongo, but I'm not sure yet). The basses I'm considering are either a Fender Jazz V or the Stingray 5 string. I had a DJ4 and didn't find that too comfortable, so I'd be interested to hear what people's recommendations are. Also, if anyone has a 5 stringer that they would considering swapping, P/Xing (whatever) for my Bongo, please let me know. Thanks
Hi OHM, Here's a link to my Musicman Sub 5 that is in the For sale forum: Musicman Sub 5 For Sale It's a great bass which is surplus to my requirements now as I have just acquired a Lakland DJ5 to go for a more passive, vintage jazz bass sound. But if you like the MM Bongo sound, then this might be for you as it has a specially designed John East active circuit that emulates the classic Stingray 4 sound but also has also has a sweepable mid e.q. control for further tonal flexibility! Nik
 21.
Bargain. These really are great pedals - do exactly what they're designed to do and do it well. D.
Thanks for the thumbs up! I couldn't agree more - last night I was using the Zoom B2 1.u that I have and the tube pre-amp setting on it is absolutely great, just as it is on the B2! Nik
 22. Thanks for the cables Dave - perfect as ever! Good to meet you on Saturday as well, at what was almost 'The Lakland Bash!'
