But if you like the MM Bongo sound, then this might be for you as it has a specially designed John East active circuit that emulates the classic Stingray 4 sound but also has also has a sweepable mid e.q. control for further tonal flexibility! Just bought one of Pete's Lakland DJ5s, which is superb! As well as the bass being exactly as described, in pefect condition etc, Pete hand-delivered right to me it to the SE Basschat Bash on Saturday so I didn't even have any courier issues to contend with or to go out of my way at all. A thoroughly pleasant and satifying transaction all the way through -thank you! Also had a chance to hear Pete have a play on Crazykiwi's Ken Smith 6 and he's pretty nifty! Thanks mate... Personally, I've never been impressed with the Fender V's, whether MIM or USA made, mainly because the definition of the low B string on the ones I've played, hasn't been that good. The Lakland DJ5 I've just acquired is noticably better than the Ken Smith Designs Proto Jazz V I had, and it's way, way better than the Fender Vs I've tried. Firstly, the Low B is excellent, secondly, the playability is in another league entirely and most importantly of all, the tone is everything a good passive Jazz bass should be! Yanks always talk about 'bang for the buck' when they buy and sell basses on Forums like Talkbass and IMHO, the Lakland Skylines are definitely the best bang for your buck that you can get. Nik

Sold a beautiful Tobias Classic 5 way, way back in the early 90s - it was beautiful with a purple heart & maple body. I had a beautiful BC Rich Eagle stolen which had a Bill Lawrence pick up on it that was just amazing. But the one I regret selling most was my Wal Pro with the leather scratchplate, serial JG1123, one of only 24 made!! Stupid, stupid, stupid. Only consolation was that I sold it to a good friend who uses it constantly on tour in the States, so I know it's doing the job it was built for..I'll post some pictures later if anyone's interested?
