2.
Choosing one style verbatim over another just limits your palette of sounds. Or so I reckon.
+ 1 to that! Whatever sounds best for the song wins out.
 3.
ebay listing unsuccesful .. if anybody can do £795 (delivered) before the end of the month (... whilst I'm still here) then I'll take it.
Hi, Do have you any soundclips of the bass? I'm looking for another 5, but don't know anything about wenge necks...Does it make a big difference tonally? And to the feel playing-wise. Nik
 4.
Just found the 'new' forum, so hi again everybody. Anybody else play Bognor Rox event over the weekend? Is this an attempt for West Sussex to take the world over?
Hello again! Didn't play Bognor Rox myself but how was it?? Not sure about West Sussex taking over the world? We're a bit too sleepy for that aren't we, but anything's possible I suppose! Nik
 5.
Thanks mybass - will check it out! Nik P.S. As Alex and Bill (and others) have put some great technical info into this thread, does anyone think it's worth making a 'sticky'?
Things move fast here on Basschat!! Thanks...
 6.
Have a look at the Mark Bass 2x10", the one with TWO front ports which is the larger 2x10. It has a lot of bottom end capacity, power handling and is 8 ohm so you could always add another 8 ohm cab. I use one of these as well with the smaller 2x10" Mark Bass Traveller cab. Big sound with both cabs running, and light weight.
Thanks mybass - will check it out! Nik P.S. As Alex and Bill (and others) have put some great technical info into this thread, does anyone think it's worth making a 'sticky'?

 8.
Well it doesent look diffrent? would I beable to tell for sure?
My advice would be to go see a guitar tech/luthier to get this sorted and there's a very good thread on this to help you find one here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=253 And this online help is excellent: http://garywillis.com/pages/bass/bassmanual/setupmanual.html Good luck! 10.
condition for both is exceptionally good. the EBS cab has lost the plastic cap for its horn attentuator, but there is no damage to the pot shaft and I find I can twist it easily enough without it. I'm pretty sure you could get a replacement for next to nothing.
Pm'd again!
 11.
Bill, i did mean that but you put it better. Yes, i felt the midrange was louder (or stronger) and it did SEEM to over power the low end a bit more. Also with my 1210 i had the port facing me and so the 10" driver was pointing up at me. Thanks.
Whatever the 'science' of it, I definitely hear or get a better sound from my GK 210 on it's side. Great to have experts like Bill and Alex to help explain things more clearly to us less scientific folk!! Nik

 13.
Naughty naughty, music "sharing" is theft!
Very true! I shall retract that statement forthwith, etc, etc, etc and shall take many trips to local charity shops and use Ebay extensively to research and to assemble all aforementioned tracks - preferably on vinyl. 14. Hi Folks, That's amazing - as I suspected, there are absolutely loads! Looks like I'm going to be busy on Limewire for a while checking these out. Should be good fun and will hopefully teach me a trick or two.. Nik
 15. Hi Folks Been thinking about songs that have a bass solo or a featured bass part in them and got to wondering how many there might be. I'm not so much thinking here of your virtuoso Jaco/Victor Wooten type stuff, but more about songs that allow the bass to come to the fore. Here's a few I can think of straight off the top of my head: 'I'm Not in Love' 10cc My Generation The Who Song for Europe Roxy Music And maybe it's arguable that songs like 'Good Times' and 'Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick' are three and a half minute bass solos anyway...But, whatever your definition, there must be loads of songs out there that have a spot where the bass and/or bass player gets the spotlight for once? So, any more you can add to the list anyone....? Nik

 17.
Yeah I've managed to do the same if that makes you feel any better bro. Only outside our rehersal unit with my old band. I had to call out the AA as well, but I didn't have a mobile on me so had to walk about a mile to the nearest pay phone!! Played with Anthrax up in Manchester a few years back, our opening song and I wasn't even plugged in! Probably the worst gig of my entire life! Still, gotta laugh eh!
Hi, It certainly does make me feel better, thanks! There's some really funny stories here which I've had a good chuckle over! Main thing is that everyone has lived to tell the tale and had a good laugh about it afterwards ! Thanks Nik P.S. By the way, what an honest lot us bassists are...
 18.
Here's a sound sample thingy - click the green "play" button a couple of times, then twiddle the switches as you wish. In Dutch, but easy enough to work out.
That's really cool; be good if you could get one for lots of different basses so you could easily hear how they sound.
 19. Hi Folks, Last Sunday I successfully managed to lock my keys, phone and all my gear into my car whilst outside our singer's house, just as we were about to leave for a gig 30 miles away. One hour later, after failing in that time to break in to my own car, we left in the singer's wife's car, borrowed a bass on the way, got to the gig half-hour late, plugged in direct to the PA and managed to do the gig! Played for 2 hours and endured many a joke about cars and keys, but the crowd loved it and all was OK in the end.. ..Meanwhile, back at my car, the AA turned up (approx 1 hour late) and broke into my car in 10 seconds flat, which meant I managed to rescue my gear and make it home...albeit somewhat embarrassed!! So now I'm wondering what's the worst, most stupid or most embarrassing thing that you've ever done while out gigging?? Hopefully, your stories might help me feel just a tad less of an idiot. Nik
 20.
Thanks guys. I like the idea that i can get a P-bass sound out of it as i would love a 5 string P-bass.
My thoughts exactly Dave! Like you, I've always wanted a P-Bass tone from a 5-string but getting a boutique model like a Valenti or Shuker for example, seems to be really expensive. For that and other reasons, I've had an interest in one of these L2500s for quite a while now and, if money was no object, then a USA version would probably be very nice. If you do get to try one out, please let us know what you think of it, thanks. Nik
 21.
This is great! I'm currently investigating the whole DIY recording and distribution approach - it looks like avenues like CDbaby and iTunes could work quite well and without the traditional industry approach where numerous entities take a cut, prove relatively lucrative. Once this first EP is finished I will get it out there and see what happens! Alex
I don't think there's ever been a better time in terms of a DIY approach, for artists who have the wherewithall to produce and release their own music, so good on you Alex for doing just that! Copyright issues, marketing & promotion, contracts and negotiation all still apply in the 'DIY world' of course, just as they do if you go through the traditional infrastructure of huge record labels etc. But the internet and an audience that actually wants to access and buy music in a totally different way from even 5 years ago, makes the potential and opportunities available to musicians really exciting! Good luck with it... Nik
