  1. Hi Folks, With only 2 weeks to go, here are the programme details for the 13th Basschat South East Bass Bash!! Date: Sunday 20th October 2019 Time: 10am - 5pm Entry: £10 (for the 12 year running - how's that for value for money!) Venue: Jubilee High School, Surrey, School Lane, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 1TE Venue Link: Venue website Map link: Streetmap link Workshops/Guest Speaker: 12.30pm: Pete Stroud We're really pleased to confirm that the very talented @mybass a.k.a. Pete Stroud (see attached photo) will be with us this year's Bash to talk to us about his career, or as he describes it: "...an informal look into a players past music trip through to how and why I started building basses that I use all the time now." Pete's very impressive CV includes playing with: Roger Chapman (Family), Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann), Moody Marsden Band (Bernie and Micky were Whitesnake guitarists) and also in their solo projects, Toyah Wilcox, Paul Williams' 'Blue Thunder' (Alan Holdsworth singer), Peter Green Splinter Group (yes THAT Peter Green), Buddy Whittington (Texan guitarist ex John Mayall. Some of the guests on stage with these bands include Carlos Santana, Popa Chubby, Hubert Sumlin, Steve Miller, John Mayall, Mick Taylor and a few others! And he's also worked for Korg and Marshall at the London and Frankfurt trade shows. Pete says that over the years he 'found the need' to start building my own basses due to the lack in the early years to find a decent playing action fretless bass in a shop. This has been both very costly and enjoyable!! Pete is still a very busy bassist in the UK, notably with Blues Award winner The Papa George Band (www.papageorge.co.uk) and Bad Influence (www.badinfluence.org.uk). Some good YouTube footage here: Other workshop ideas: If anybody wants to put together a workshop at short notice, that's be great. Here's a list of the ideas put forward so far: Best In Show P Bass Shoot Out Full Band environment bass test Blindfold bass test Blindfold P Bass test Cab dispersion/distance test Introduction to IEM I think the 'Best In Show idea is great by the way, so am thinking how we could make that work.. Other important info: Room layout will be something along the lines of the last couple of years with the large Hall area as the space where you can all set up & compare (loudly) your own gear, the Theatre for Workshops, the Jam Room (hopefully with the mighty Paul on drums) .... And in the Foyer will be the reception desk, Refreshments, the Gear for Sale section and the Raffle Prizes table Spaces: The Theatre for Workshops Side Room/quiet Room - smaller number of rigs in here makes it a little easier to talk & play The Jamming Room for jamming with drummers (and other strange non-bass playing people) The Main Hall (where you can set up your gear and make some low frequency vibrations) The Foyer - Refreshments, Gear For Sale table & The Raffle About Costs....Every year, it costs about £185 for the hire of the venue plus an amount for some public liability insurance cover therefore to cover those basic costs we have to charge £10 per head entrance fee to one and all. As stated before many times, it's been £10 since the event started back in 2007, so it really is fantastic value for money! Charities: We will donate all profits from the day to a worthy cause or two, probably in exactly the same way we did last year. Refreshments will be available on the day for a small charge of course which will help increase the profits and keep everyone happy! Last year, as ever, Hamster & Mrs Hamster (a.k.a. Sarah) did all the work on that and have offered to do so again, so many thanks in advance to them! How you can Help/Get Involved What would be really helpful from everyone who's interested in participating on the day is: 1. Donations of raffle prizes 2. Volunteers to help out on the day Thanks to all those who've already said they're attending - it's much appreciated and we look forward to seeing as many more of you who want to come along on the day! The South East Bass Bash Team
  2. Classic old fashioned Basschat BUMP for a classic fretless Ibanez Bass! 😊
  3. *** Now SOLD *** Hi Folks I'm selling this Ibanez Musician Studio Fretless Bass on behalf of a friend of mine who's had it in his recording studio for many years but now wants to move it on. Was up for £675, but It's now offered for sale at £SOLD. As can be seen in the photos, the bass and the case are in good condition for their age, considering they're getting on for 40 years old. I think the bass is the lined fretless version of the Ibanez Musician ST924WN model, as can be seen here in this Reverb advert a few years ago: https://reverb.com/uk/item/1098372-ibanez-musician-studio-bass-st924wn-1979-walnut-mahogany But hopefully, @Bassassin might be able to offer some words of wisdom on this and put me right if I've got it wrong .. 😁 The bass has recently had a once over by a local guitar/bass tech, so all the electrics are working and it's properly set up. Strings are old though, so they will need changing by its new owner. Having said that, this bass really has that fretless 'mwahh' sound and it's got seriously loud pick ups! There's a great range of tones available from the active circuitry too.. For anyone seriously interested, the bass can be viewed and tested by prior appointment in the Littlehampton area of West Sussex. With regards to shipping, its definitely possible to send it via an insured courier service (at buyers expense), but it is a heavy bass as I'm sure anyone looking at this advert with a serious interest in the bass will know. I haven't weighed it, but it is heavy!! It's kind of like a Rolls Royce of a bass really - everything about it is quality and it's been built to last! Anyway, if you've any questions about the bass, please send me a PM and I'll go back to the owner to get you an answer, though that may take a few hours or so depending on his availability. Thanks for looking! 😊 Nik
  4. Beautiful woods throughout - that's a lovely looking JB5.. Never owned a Sei bass but I rate Martin's work very highly and he is a perfectionist.. As can be seen just looking at this bass. GLWTS
  5. I had one of these for some years and gigged it very successfully with an Eden 210 - it never let me down! Yes, it's not lightweight by modern standards but in return, you get a proper high quality 'heavyweight' bass sound with superb eq, an excellent on board compressor and 2 independent channels. For this price, it really is a steal! GLWTS
  6. Wow, that's nice.. And a brilliant deal too! Tried one of these out at Bass Direct in May and it was really, really good.. GLWTS
  7. That's a really classy looking bass and a beautiful colour! GLWTS
  8. I've had the pleasure of playing through this amp and it's really very good.. Having owned some Class A/B amps such as Eden and Thunderfunk over the years that have similarities to this - particularly in the parametric eq department - I'd say this is right up there with the best of them! First off, it's phenomenally loud and has a real 'kick' or 'thump' to it that is very satisfying to feel when playing - especially with a 5 string bass that has a low B string.. Secondly, the eq is brilliant - pin point accuracy across 2 separate eq channels that really does allow you to dial in a wide array of tones.. And lastly, I think another of its great strengths is that the amp is very transparent ; it doesn't cover or mask the sound of your bass - it just deepens and broadens it. The downside of all that perhaps is that this amp doesn't sound as sweet straight out of the box as an Eden World Tour series head does for example, but once you start using the eq and other tone shaping features on this amp, it more than makes up for that.. To borrow a phrase often used when describing Hi-fi amps, I think the soundstage with this amp is far better than the Edens I've owned and its better than a Thunderfunk TF550 I had briefly too.. But also, I think this has more in the eq department than both those amps.. If I didn't already have an Ampeg valve amp, a Hughes and Kettner Bassbase 600, and a Hartke HA5500, then I would definitely have made an offer on this by now. Anyway, GLWTS with the sale of this amp@ChunkyMunky - it's a real beauty! 😊
  9. Lovely! I've had two RBVs in this colour before and this one looks just as good as they were.. Superb build quality, great range of tones available from the passive circuitry and IMHO, there's just something uniquely 'vintage Fender' about the Roscoe Beck basses that works in almost any musical setting. GLWTS
  10. Just sold a fretless bass to Matt, aka @hooky_lowdown. Nice easy transaction and as has been said before on here many times, Matt is a great guy to deal with and a credit to the Basschat community.. Hope you enjoy the bass Matt and all the best for now.. Nik 😊
  11. Never seen one of these before but, based on my previous experience of owning a Genz 2x12, I bet its a gorgeous sounding cab.. GLWTS
  12. Just had the pleasure of dealing with Mike @mike.kennedyfor the first time.. Sold him an AKG microphone in what was a very easy and hassle free transaction. Mike is definitely another trusted and respected person here on Basschat who I'm more than happy to recommended to other Forum members. Thanks Mike - enjoy the AKG and all the best for now. 😊 Nik
  13. Cheers @mike.kennedy Pleased the mic arrived safely and an absolute pleasure to deal with you here on the forum .. Nik
  14. I had one of these for a while and it was a pretty nice sounding cab.. Not too heavy either and quite portable too.. GLWTS
  15. Beautiful looking bass and sorry to hear that you have to let it go for those reasons @Slappindabass. Nevertheless, GLWTS!
  16. AKG C1000s Microphone - SOLD . I'd like £SOLD or near offer for this please, but not being very knowledgeable about recording gear, I realise that I might be a bit out of touch when it comes to the value of this, so if you think that's the case, please message me to discuss.. So, moving on, this is either the Mk1 or MK 2 version of this extremely well known microphone, which has often been described as 'the Swiss Army Knife of mics' because its good for so many different recording situations; indoors, outdoors, vocals, acoustic instruments etc, etc. I bought it about 7 years ago for a home recording project that never really took off, so it's hardly been used in that time. However, it's still in full working order and in good condition and I'm sure it could be very useful for someone on here who needs a good all-rounder in their studio set up. Here's some blurb about the C1000s: "The C1000S is a cardioid condenser microphone that has been used for broadcast vocals, podcasting, and instrument miking. At least three generations of the mic have been manufactured under the same name. The first two used an optional internal 9V battery for field recording applications where phantom power is not available. The second of these had a battery status LED built into the power switch." Some useful links: http://recordinghacks.com/microphones/AKG-Acoustics/C-1000-S http://recordinghacks.com/reviews/tapeop/akg-c1000s/ Anyone who's interested in this will probably know far more than me about how good these Mics can be in the right hands, so if recording is your thing - please get in touch! Please send me a PM if you've any questions, or if you are local and would like to arrange a time to come and test it. Thanks for looking as ever ! 😊 Nik
  17. Behringer PEQ 2200 19" 1U Rack FX unit - SOLD . Simply put, this is a single channel, 1U 19inch rack mount, with 5 band parametric eq and variable high and low pass filters. I used to have this in my bass rig for a number of years, but hardly use it these days so it's up for sale at £SOLD or near offer. Overall, it is in very good working order and in good cosmetic condition. Here's what the blurb says: 'The PEQ2200 is an extremely effective and musical frequency correction and sound-shaping tool with center frequency, bandwidth and amplitude adjustment for each filter. Its state-variable, constant-Q filters and parallel filter configuration ensure musical operation, while overlapping frequency bands allow up to 30 dB of level correction.' Available to view/test if you're local to Littlehampton, West Sussex or I can post at buyer's expense. If you have any questions, please ask away here or send me a PM. Thanks for looking as ever. 😊
  18. Wow ... This is an unbelievable price for what I remember @51m0n describing at the South East Bass Bash one year as '.. the best cab on the planet!' GLWTS
  19. Rare as hens teeth these and stupidly loud.. Serious amount of 'heft' too. Will it run at 2 ohms?
