    The answer to the OP's question is yes, millions and millions of people do. Record sales of The Beatles, Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bowie, Paul Simon, Squeeze, Kate Bush, Grandmaster Flash, Cole Porter, The Beautiful South, Elvis Costelloe, Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Amy Winehouse, Carole King, Randy Newman, Eminem, the great songwriters of musicals over the years such as Sondheim, Schuman & Schuman etc, etc.. Those brilliant storytelling songwriters - and so, so many others - is testimony to the fact that millions and millions of people listen to and care about the lyrics in songs. Protest songs, coming of age songs, redemption songs, love songs, comedic songs, songs of love and hate, allegorical songs, songs about drugs, songs about injustice, songs about togetherness, songs about the simple joy of being alive... Without the words, they would just be pieces of music - great music in many cases undoubtedly - but still, they'd just be music. But with the words, they become something else entirely. 'You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you will join us And the world will live as one.'

    Had a couple of requests about the weight of the bass, so I've weighed it on our really old bathrooms scales. The reading says it's a shade under 4kg which doesn't surprise me given that it's an Ash body.

    Hi Folks So, this really, really is a feeler, but as I said in another for sale thread, I have my eye on something else, so am putting this beautiful example of a Fender Roscoe Beck 5 String & OHSC for sale. I'm looking for £SOLD or very near offer for this beautiful Fender signature series bass, which many have described as the best Fender 5 string bass ever made. The bass is in superb condition and has one ding on the underside of the body which hopefully can be seen in the photos. A completely passive bass, it has two double wound Bill Lawrence pick-ups that offer you series/parallel/single configuration for each pick-up , offering you a plethora of sounds/tones from standard Jazz Bass to the most modern Humbucker sounds. It's perhaps a little bit darker tonally than a standard Jazz bass, but with stainless steel round wounds, this bass works with any genre of music and any type of band. As ever, I'd prefer to sell this to someone who could come and try it out in person here in Littlehampton West Sussex first however, I am prepared to ship it at buyer's expense by insured courier service.     Hi Folks, This is a bit of a feeler really as I have my eye on something else.. So, this is - as far as I can tell from the serial number - a Made in Japan Fender Precision bass, circa 1991/2. I'm looking for £SOLD or very near offer for this beauty. It sounds and looks great, has a beautiful Ash body and a slim, almost Jazz like maple neck and is in brilliant condition for a 27 year old bass. It's everything a 70s P Bass should be IMHO ! 😊 Full disclosure ; there's one tiny ding on the neck which I'll try to photograph tomorrow when there's hopefully some decent light.. It has been set up professionally and is currently strung with a set of Rotosound steels. Comes with a functional hard case.     Hi Folks, I was fortunate to win this EHX Mini Q-Tron pedal at the recent South East Bass Bash but because I already have one, I've decided to put this up for sale. This wasn't my original intention when I won it tbh, but my slightly crazy plan to use two at the same time didn't quite work out as planned.. 😁 If you're looking at this for sale thread, then I guess you probably know about the Mini Q-Tron already but in case you don't, what I'd say is that it's one of those FX units that is a load of fun to play with.. To quote another Basschatter @Mikey Rwho sold one of these recently '.. it's great for funk and psychodelia, it also works really well with distortion pedals, octive pedals and LFO based effects to produce synth type tones.' This one comes in its original cool & very 70s retro wooden box and is in reasonable cosmetic condition, as the photos show. Otherwise, it's in good working order and makes a great noise! There isn't a PSU with it unfortunately , but it will work absolutely fine using a regular 9v battery. Alternatively, the enclosed instructions provide details of what kind of PSU is required for it. I'm happy to post at buyer's expense or happy to demonstrate it working for anybody who lives close enough to Littlehampton, West Sussex and wants to visit... Tea/Coffee /Biscuits provided of course!     Great amps these.. Super loud, tonally very flexible and has a nice valve pre section that really warms up your tone.. Not too heavy either, so a good choice if you want that Class A/B sound but still care about what your carrying around from gig to gig. Very good seller too btw... GLWTS

    +1 to all the above.. That sums it up, that feeling of not being amazed, surprised or shocked by anything new that comes along anymore.. But that's our / my problem, not the fault of any new emerging artists. They're just doing their thing, totally immersed in it as they should be. New genres do emerge though apparently - Drill, Grime etc, etc.. It's just that I haven't the faintest idea what they are about though and I've no intention of finding out either! It's all too shouty and loud for a low-end old codger like me; I like elevator/advert music apparently, as made by the wonderful band that is Elbow! 😁

    Yep, each to their own in terms of which bands/artists we all like... Perhaps atypically, I've come to the conclusion that, the older I've got, the list of music I like is much smaller than the list of music I like.. And like you, my Dad said the same sort of things to me when I used to watch TOTP growing up in the 70s; 'he /she can't sing ', 'what is he wearing, - looks like a girl ', 'what an' effin racket' etc, etc.. And the more he disliked something, the more I liked it! I guess I've just morphed into a slightly more open-minded version of my Dad. That's why the occasional artists that comes along like Little Simz or Somthai - who I surprised myself by really enjoying - are a bit like anti-ageing pills that stop me from becoming as close-minded as I remember my parents and their friends were..

    I agree.. Think we need to lighten up around here though - a live music show on TV that gives musicians a chance to showcase what they do and reach potential new audiences is essential if we want to keep developing musical talent.. Slowthai is just the sort of artist who's music and performance gets a reaction.. Just like The Stooges, Sex Pistols, Public Enemy etc, etc did in their fay. I wouldn't sit and listen to it personally, but it's relevant to his audience and that's what counts. I liked a lot of the other stuff on the show too; Little Simz's band were brilliant - really heavy grooves and bass lines - right up my street! And Elbow can do no wrong AFAIC. Just my 2p worth of course.. 😊

    As a general rule, I'm not in the slightest bit interested in owning a bass that's endorsed in any way, or is a signature model...my brain just doesn't work like that. However, I just loved the look of the Fender Roscoe Beck 5 String bass when I first saw one around 2006 - which was a good few years after they were introduced. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that, at the time, I had no idea who Roscoe Beck was! So in a way, the bass led me to the musician, not the other way around... As it happened, I found the research about him really interesting and learning about the design philosophy he had for the bass made it even more intriguing. So, when I finally got one in 2007, I absolutely loved it and since then, I've had 5 of them.. and happily, I still love the look, playability, sound and ergonomics of them. The only reason I've had so many of them over the years is because the dreaded Basschat fuelled GAS demons got the better of me and I stupidly sold them, only to then regret being such an idiot! 😁 Funny thing is, I don't particularly like the look of the 4 string model so have never wanted to own one?? Having said all of that, there are lots of signature model basses out there that I like the look of - the Nate Mendel being one for example - but none so far (other than the RBV) that have motivated enough to go out and get one.
