  1. Sorry to hear about your situation @Salt on your Bass? Having had to handle a couple of disputes in recent years with courier companies, I'd say it's cheaper - though not necessarily easier - to deal with it yourself.. However, if you have any legal cover in your home insurance policy then it'll be worth investigating that and then trying to go down that route. Best of luck with it!
  2. Interesting video - was the last piece an original composition?
  3. Yep - absolute bargain price for a quality British made cab! GLWTS Geoff.
  4. You might be right on this - I'm certainly not wedded to the idea that only my point of view is right. But on balance, I think that the overall contribution to good bass education that Scott and SBL is making is a positive one. When I started out learning the bass in the late 70s, I'd have loved to have access to the learning resources like SBL and Basschat that are available today.
  5. As I understand it, its done by dividing the ohmage of the drivers - in this case 16 ohms - and dividing it by the total number of drivers, i.e. 3. So, 16 ÷ 3 = 5.3. Hope that helps..
  6. For anyone who read the other recent thread here about SBL in which Scott actually posted a 30 minute video clip explaining his business methodology in some detail, his use of controversial headlines like this one about active pre amps, is designed to get YouTube clicks and to get people talking.. Seems like a pretty successful strategy to me. He's a bass player running a very successful business about Bass playing, not a high priest ordained to tell any 'ultimate truths' about the bass guitar and everything related to it.. Theres a big difference between the two IMO.
  7. Cab now SOLD - many thanks! Hi Folks For Sale only, an Epifani UL310 series 1 ultra lightweight Bass Cab with padded cover. This is an excellent sounding Epifani UL310. It's the older (better-sounding) series 1 variety, loaded with B&C drivers. Tech Spec as follows : Dimensions: 23" (H) x 21.5" (W) x 16.5 " (D) Power Handling: 750 watts RMS (1800 watts Peak) Speakers: (3) B&C 250 watt RMS Cast Aluminum Frame 100 watt RMS Tweeter (variable) 5.3 OHMS Weight: 47 lbs Have added a couple of stock images from Google for now but will put up some pics of the actual cab itself tonight. Real pictures of the cab now added below. Great condition, all original and sounds brilliant with either my Ampeg V4BH head or my Hartke LH500 head. It's also a very easy one handed lift.. Only selling because I'm just not using it enough due to infrequent gigs and when I do, I tend to always use my Ampeg rig.. Viewings welcome in Littlehampton, West Sussex and yes, happy to send by courier (at buyer's expense) if absolutely essential. Any questions, please ask here or send me a PM. Thanks for looking.. 😊 Nik
  8. Just watched it and thought it was pretty good overall.. Unless my ears are completely deceiving me, I think Scott made a fairly honest comment about active eq, saying it gave you a 'different' tone, not a 'better' tone. Obviously, he's strongly in favour of passive basses so he's biased his comments in the video that way which, to bass players who are newer to the game, is probably a little unfair as they need to work through that themselves in their own time and their own way IMO. But I do think Scott is making a useful point (despite his inherent bias) if you take the whole of his comments about tone into consideration. The video is helpful because it stresses how all the elements in the signal chain contribute towards achieving a great tone and that its particularly important to understand how to use the various eq tools you have at your disposal to their best advantage.. So for example, if you have a powerful active eq circuit on your bass, powerful eq controls on your amp and even more eq options in your pedals and FX units, then it's very possible to over use all those tools to the detriment of achieving a great bass tone. That's a simple yet valuable observation that's worth pointing out IMO, along with his comments about changing your strings and how you use your fingers.. The only other thing I think about the video is that Scott left out compression as one of the important elements in his list.
  9. About time I added to this virtual wall of shame, or glory, depending on your (or your better half's) point of view.. So, my list is: Hondo Ricky copy (1977) Encore fretless P Bass (age unknown) Squier P Bass (Chinese build, age unknown) Gibson Thunderbird (2004) BC Rich Eagle (1984) Ander Van der End JB5 (approx. 2001/2) Fender Roscoe Beck 5 (1998) Theres also a short scale Encore P Bass in the loft that belongs to my son, so that doesn't really count here. But there are some instruments of a more 'Slytherin' nature too, namely a Washburn 6 string acoustic and a Faith Venus 6 string acoustic which do count when it comes to the ongoing domestic 'Space Wars' saga here at Silverfoxnik Towers. Last but not least, there are about 25 other basses that I own, but they're just kind of in my head, if you know what I mean.. 😉
  10. I had an offline chat with @discreetabout this yesterday as I was seriously thinking of buying it.. To cut the long story short, I've decided I need to move some gear on rather than buy any more at this point in time, but what really impressed me about this combo came in the form of this great YouTube demo by our very own @Dood: Well worth watching for anyone who's interested in picking up this combo.. GLWTS Mark.
  11. That's great! Thanks for sharing... Case closed on that I'd say!
  12. Didn't expect to see this back on here so soon! Have to say that this and your Ibanez Musician that's also for sale are fabulous instruments; you have excellent taste IMO! GLWTS
  13. Fingers crossed for you @owen Time for Mr Dyson to stop frittering away his self-proclaimed towering intellect and engineering talents on cordless vacuum cleaners and put a bit of hard graft into producing the world's first bass guitar friendly bijou transporter for the home!
  14. Agree with you 100%.. And its a beautifully produced album as well IMO. I've always thought that Jeff Buckley had such an absolutely innate musical talent, he could have really been one of the 'rock & roll greats' (for want of a better phrase) had he lived longer and made more records. Sad that we never got a chance to find that out..
  15. Roxy Music never really made it big in the States, despite their success in the rest of the world.
  16. Yep - guilty as charged @WishICouldWalk 😁
  17. An extreme case of repetition & duplication if ever I saw one! Time to have all those duplicates removed from this collection @cetera It'll be painful at first, but you'll feel so much better afterwards.. 😄
  18. Cheers! It's about 18 years old I think Dave and has acquired that relic'd look naturally.. I've always liked it this way - gives it a more beat up 70s jazz look in my eyes.
  19. Will post a picture up tomorrow as am out this evening...
