  1. Cheers Chris, Just trying to keep the discussion moving along.. 😊
  2. Not good to hear this! Have to say that when I played there in December, we didn't have that problem but that doesn't excuse this situation as described in the OP. The MU might be helpful with this but it's a long time since I was a member, so I've no idea what their current remit and reach is... However, the suggestion by@Dood seems like a good line of approach. Best of luck with it! Nik
  3. This is an absolute bargain.. Can't believe its still here.. IIRC, I heard one of these at the very first South East Bass Bash in 2007 and was amazed how good it sounded and how light it was. A completely easy I handed lift.. Anyway, can only wish you GLWTS 😊
  4. Good to see Bjork's name added into the debate.. Definitely another unique, genius level female artist of the last 25 years... 😊
  5. As a long time fan of both Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, it's seems to me to be an utterly pointless argument to say that one of them is a (musical) genius, whilst the other is not. They are both extraordinarily talented songwriters, singers and musicians in their own right but they come from very different cultural and artistic backgrounds IMO, which makes comparing them more about personal preference and opinion than fact. Their back catalogues, record sales, worldwide fan bases and respect from amongst their own musical peer groups tells its own story though and they both have those things in abundance. I'm just grateful that they have made the fantastic music they have over the years; my life's been all the richer for it.
  6. Hi Folks, for anyone interested and able to attend Colin's Funeral, I just saw this on Facebook : "Dear friends of Colin, I am greatly humbled by the outpouring of support, love and kindness you’ve displayed over the past ten days. Colin; your friend and my partner was one of a kind and is already missed so much. I’m still in disbelief that he’s gone. Colin’s funeral will be held at Woking Crematorium, Hermitage Road Woking GU21 8TJ on Wednesday, 3rd April at 3pm, with a wake/celebration of his life afterwards at Brookwood Club, Connaught Road, Brookwood Woking. GU24 0HJ. Anybody wishing to send floral tributes, can you please send to The Co-Operative Funeralcare, Unit 1, 5 High Street, Knaphill, Woking Surrey GU21 2PG. I would like to thank you all for your kindness and overwhelming generosity with your donations. We can now give Colin the send off he deserves. With Love, Kim. Xx"

  8. Absolutely stunning looking amp! Aesthetically pleasing enough for its own installation at the TATE I'd say.. GLWTS
  9. That's a really funky looking bass! GLWTS
  10. It was Steve.. Beyond expectations! 😊
  11. Best concert/gig/performance I've ever seen in 44 years of going to gigs was KB's Before The Dawn show in August 2016.. It had everything - incredible songs, musicians, vocals, stage sets, choreography.. It was as close to artistic perfection as I think it's possible to get. And KB herself was the strangest mix of down to earth 'girl next door' and charismatic diva all at the same time. Just brilliant! What she created was performance art of the highest standard and it was all on her own terms; no record label or product driving it - just the desire to tell her own story.. And for me, it was on another level of creativity altogether, better than most of my other favourite artists shows that I've seen over the years, including Queen, Bowie, Sinatra, Prince etc.. I love Joni Mitchell too, but to try and compare her and KB is pointless really - their musical DNA comes from quite different sources IMHO. We're just lucky that they've both created unique and beautiful bodies of work. Oh, and at the KB show, John Giblin with Omar Hakim on drums were absolutely unbelievable as a rhythm section.. 😊
  12. I had one of these a few years ago.. It was so comfortable to play and it sounded great - did the P Bass thing perfectly. Wish I'd kept it to be honest, but I've said that so many times it's like a broken record. Anyway, this looks really cool IMO - especially with the black pick guard! GLWTS
  13. @chris_b and @yorks5stringer Absolutely spot on Chaps! And @Happy Jack - your electricians forum post had me LMAO! 😂 As for his voice, Macca was voted at No. 11 on Rolling Stones greatest singers of all time - 1 place behind James Brown and 2 places behind Stevie Wonder. No small achievement for a white kid from little ol' England. Back to the OP, I actually think Macca is underrated if anything.
  14. +1. Spot on.. And IMO, Macca was a master of striking the right balance between playing exactly what the song needed and making the bass line something of real interest that helped define the song. That to me, is so much more important than measuring a bass player's status/rank/greatness etc by qualities such as technical dexterity and virtuosity alone. Just my 2p worth of course and I know that there are many very strongly held and diverse views about this subject on this forum. Have a nice day folks.. 😊
  15. Very insightful... Reminds me of the story about Paul McCartney when he worked with MJ back in the 80s.. Apparently so the story goes, they were working on a song together and Macca was telling MJ about the financial value of music publishing. Next thing Macca knew was that MJ had bought ATV Music Publishing, the publishing company that owned Northern Songs, which itself owned all the rights to the Beatles songs! I don't think Macca was best pleased.. Innate musical talent aside, MJ was a very intelligent person IMO who knew how to operate and make things happen for his benefit in the very grown up and fiercely competitive world of the music business. He had other talents in abundance too, especially in terms of projecting and manipulating a public image and persona that always seemed to allow him to come out smelling of roses That he wouldn't have intuitively or knowingly transferred all of those talents, skills and personal attributes into his achieving what he wanted in his personal life would beggar belief frankly. The jury's not out for me on this one and I certainly wouldn't want to play bass in a band covering any of his music from Off The Wall onwards.
  16. Love the look of that Reverend Mercali.. 😊 GLWTS of the Super twin!
  17. Wow - what an absolute bargain price for such a rare, hand-made boutique UK bass! Can't believe it's still here to be honest.. GLWTS 😊
  18. Thanks for sharing these stories about Colin, @Leese.. They're really good to hear in the circumstances being a sort of reaffirmation and celebration all at the same time! All the best, Nik
  19. Had one of these Car Tokais about 10 years ago and it was a fantastic bass.. This one looks even better because it has the P/J pick up configuration (mine was J/J). As you say, these early 80s Tokais were known as 'Fender Killers', and with very good reason; I preferred my '84 Tokai to a '66 Fender Jazz that I'd had in the 1990s.. It really was that good! Anyway, I shall stop reminiscing now and just say GLWTS..
  20. Just seen this news on Facebook about Colin, aka @barneyg42 Very sad to hear this.. Met him a fair few times at the SE Bash and through buying gear - an absolutely lovely human being. RIP Colin. 😢

  22. Fabulous amp and what an amazing deal for the amp + cab together! GLWTS
  23. ^^ Yep - I had one of these too and it was the aural equivalent of an optical illusion - it just filled the room with lush bass sounds! Come to think of it, it was the only cab I ever had that guitarists paid me compliments about.. GLWTS
