  1. Nice! This brings back a few memories.. I had one of these about 8 or 9 years ago and it was a lovely sounding pre amp, exactly as Chris has described. I paired mine with a 210 cab for home practicing, which was great, but I also used to use it live in preamp mode to warm up my tone when I had solid state rigs for gigging. It's a really good piece of kit that's very versatile and you can't go wrong when dealing with Chris either, so all's good! GLWTS Chris and Happy New Year. ๐Ÿ˜Š
  2. It's impossible to answer this without going against what you're asking us to do.. A bit like that brilliant Steven Wright (USA comedian) joke, 'What's Braille for Do Not Touch?' Good luck with your practicing
  3. Personally, I think the idea of 'being in touch' is over-rated.. And also a bit erroneous. For example, does someone who listens to Bach, Mozart and Monteverdi get accused of being out of touch on a classical music forum and told they should be listening to Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Aaron Copland instead? I doubt it. The fact that we have a wealth of amazing music to draw on from the last 500+ years or so (in the Western world that is) to listen to, inspire us, make us feel happy, feel sad or feel like dancing or playing the bass etc, etc, is a gift we should be ever grateful for IMO. I love the music I grew up with in the 70s and early 80s, but I've found other brilliant stuff too - from the 90s, 2000s and 2010s as well. But equally, I've discovered loads of other music made way before I was born that's blown me away.. So it's all good really. However, just to be a little bit contentious, I do kind of agree with Blue that - in so far as the rock music idiom is concerned - the best music of that genre was made in the so called golden age of rock music that spanned the 60s and 70s decades. But its only important to old farts like me when I want to wind up my son's generation of dubious dubsteppers and techno, R&B, rap, Grime headz! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜Ž
  4. This is still the best place to find out about all things 'bass' IMO, whether that's double-bass, bass guitar, EUB, amps, cabs, FX etc, etc. Sure, some of the threads are a bit repetitious and some of the same topics produce the same arguments...which every now and again get a bit fractious..handbaggs at dawn and all that.. ๐Ÿ˜ But by and large, those things are far outweighed by the positives that Basschat provides on tap, every day, week, month without fail! Gear advice, technical advice, music theory advice, support from a community of like-minded people (broadly speaking), for sale forums, off-topic debate & discussions.. The list of positives is almost endless. If there'd been somewhere I could get all this for free when I first started playing bass in the mid 70s, I'd have absolutely loved it. And I'm sure it would have made me a better bass player and musician.
  5. Lovely! I had the pleasure of playing one of these at the South East Bass Bash last year and it was an absolute joy to play; very comfortable in the hands due to it being so lightweight and short scale, but it still produces a beautiful, rich and organic sounding bass tone.. GLWTS ๐Ÿ˜Š
  6. Glad to hear you got the bass back! ๐Ÿ˜Š
  7. I really like the P Bass and the P Bass sound... Or do I? Question for me is that just saying 'P Bass' is too simplistic. For example, if you compare Jamerson's P Bass sound to Bruce Foxton's sound, they're really quite different, so we need to be more specific about what sound we're really talking about.. Having said that - and in my own limited experience based on having worked with a number of different name record producers years ago - they do tend to have a 'go to' bass sound they like to use for certain types of music and as far as rock music goes, there is a kind of default P Bass sound that is favoured by producers. Funny enough, when you hear it solo, it's quite clanky and heavy on the mids, but in the mix with other instruments, it just sounds perfect! I agree with earlier comments above about the look of P Basses being very much the preferred image for many bands, regardless of what bass may have been used in the studio. Personally, I love the look of P Basses, just not the sunburst ones..
  8. Wow this is ridiculously cheap for an amp of this quality! GLWTS Rich.. ๐Ÿ˜Š
  9. Isn't that Pamela Stephenson, aka Mrs Billy Connolly..?
  10. Going way off topic here but, yes I'd agree that's also true @Dad3353 The proliferation of recording technology (like anything else that becomes mass market I guess) has inevitably lead to imitation /replication/duplication/plagiarism etc.. But having grown up as a young person obsessed with the music and careers of interesting, creative and in many cases, pioneering recording artists, I suppose what I'm saying is that we should celebrate individuality and originality whenever we can, and (going back on topic), for my money, Kate Bush is definitely one of those pioneering recording artists that's enriched the art form she's chosen to work in. Again, just my 2 drachmas worth.. ๐Ÿ˜Š
  11. +1 This is made even more pronounced by the fact that mimicking production values in pop music now is a whole lot easier with sampling, Pro Tools, Logic etc, etc. Technology that should/could enhance and enable creativity has in fact dumbed it down even further. Just my 2p worth of course..
  12. And those artists are all the better for it IMO.. The minute you hear them, you immediately know who's singing or who the artist is... which is 'gold dust' if you want to be a recording artist.
  13. As far as I'm concerned, Kate Bush is absolutely wonderful - voice, songwriting, creative vision and her own unique artistic integrity. Her 'Before the Dawn' show I went to in 2014 was the best live music performance I've ever seen and heard. We're lucky to have her in this country IMO.. Happy Xmas Folks
  14. Sorry to hear that Mike, Let's hope that whoever did this chokes a little on their turkey this Xmas! Will keep a look out for you.. All the best and have a good Xmas (if you can). Nik
  15. Very sad news.. Absolutely love JO's playing; his melodic sensibility, his tone.. but also, wasn't there something really different and special about his syncopation - like on Ventura Highway for example - or is that me? I just love his play on that track. Anyway, whatever it is that sets him apart, his playing was of the absolutely highest order! RIP
  16. Very nice, just like the original case I have with my Roscoe Beck 5. GLWTS Pawel and have a good Xmas! Nik
  17. What a great piece of kit this is hence why I'm surprised you've had no comments at all about it. Legendary Eden e.q., great on board compressor, contour control, and a bi-amp facility - what more could you ask for in a bass pre-amp? Anyway, GLWTS!
  18. Very nice! ๐Ÿ˜Š Looks like it even has a 'PB' serial number too. And quite unusual with the Schedua body without the mahogany core.. GLWTS
  19. Lovely looking jazz bass that oozes authenticity ! Really like your old radios in the background too - very vintage, just the ones my Dad had when I was young... Anyway, GLWTS
  20. Thanks Col, Not sure about Spring for the SE Bash though..?? Will message you. Nik
  21. +1 That's ridiculously cheap for a bass of this quality.. GLWTS Josh! ๐Ÿ˜Š
  22. That'd be something that @Hamster would have to check for us Silvia... I'll message him to find out.. ๐Ÿ˜Š
