  1. +1 IMO, playing music's a life-long journey and you never know what's round the corner.. Best of luck with it, whatever you end up doing. 😊
  2. Great band! One of the best gigs I ever saw was Incognito at the Ilford Island in 1995 with Max Beesley on drums or percussion, and Randy Hope Taylor on bass.. They were phenomenonal...
  3. I like what they do and the sound they make.. The two guys are clearly talented musicians and what they're doing really well with the technology that's available to them, is a very good pastiche of the great chill-out funky, soul music I first heard back in the 70s. Personally, I prefer listening to the original artists that did this sort of music, who made their music/records with a collective group of musicians who all contributed to the whole sound and vibe, but I get that it's not like that these days.
  4. Herbie Flowers has used the same Jazz bass for over 40 years, as seen at the South East Bash in 2016. And I think I'm right in saying that Prince used the same Hohner Telecaster, the so called MadCat Telecaster, for many, many years. They've known some great tunes between them, those two instruments!
  5. Fabulous! I love my Shoreline Gold RBV and imagine this is just as good... GLWTS
  6. Very nice pre amp this; properly designed for use with bass guitars. Sounds great IMO... GLWTS
  7. I'd add to all that above by saying that the relatively new facility that we have on this site that allows you to bump your advert without saying anything even vaguely meaningful, makes it look like you don't really care enough to be bothered whether your item sells or not. I'm sure that's not the case, but that's how it seems to me at least. The old site forced you to have to add some content to your for sale thread to bump it up the list and personally, I think that system worked far better. Going back to the original question in this post, I think the for sale market on here has slowed considerably for many of the reasons already mentioned. At the moment, I think it's particularly bad and it is such a shame to see some fantastic gear - basses especially - just sitting there for months and months unsold.. Just my 2p worth of course...
  8. Almost the whole of the School's Out album is built around the bass lines.. His work on 'Halo of Flies' on the Killer album is equally brilliant IMO. Got to agree also with the mention above of the bass line in 'John, I'm Only Dancing' - absolutely brilliant! @ezbass - yes, absolutely agree with you about Davey Johnstone.. very, very fine, melodic playing. Mind you, he had some beautiful songs to work with... 😊
  9. Being a long-time fan of Trevor Bolder, it's great to see this post recognising his bass playing and his musicality. I grew up in the early 1970s listening to his playing, along with other melodic bassists around at the time like Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper), and it definitely shaped my idea of what the bass player could contribute melodically as well as rhythmically to a great song. Later on, as my musical knowledge and tastes broadened out, I got to discover McCartney, Entwhistle, and James Jameson for example, who were absolute masters of melodic bass playing that not only carried the song rhythmically, but added a melodic sensibility too.. Of course, there are countless other great melodic bass players out there - some of whom I've heard, some I've not, and many more I don't even know about - but for my particular bass playing journey, it all started with Trevor Bolder.
  10. This was mine for about 4 months earlier this year and I've got to say, it's an impressive piece of kit for the money! Very useable EQ, plenty of power and we'll featured..and all in a neat and tidy lightweight package. As Dan says, the fan's a bit loud for some, but it didn't trouble me at all to be honest. But then, I wasn't using it for home practicing.. In favt, I only sold it on because I picked up a Hartke LH500 in a trade... Anyway, have a BUMP on me for a great seller and a very good, lightweight amp! 😊
  11. I picked up a series 1 version of this cab recently and it's really, really good! GLWTS
  12. And a very, very good price for a Wal 5 too! GLWTS
  13. Just sold a Peavey MiniMAX to Dan in what was a very straightforward and easy transaction. As said above - Dan's a pleasure to deal with from start to finish so deal with him in absolute confidence Folks... Thanks Dan - hope you enjoy the amp! 😊 Nik
  14. I enjoy playing both 4 and 5 string basses and after years of using both, can switch from one to the other during gigs without any problems at all. After so many years of doing this, I think that that my playing ability and style is pretty consistent whichever bass I'm using, but the way that I use the 5 is definitely different and works really well for some songs and some styles of music. I've never got on with 6 string basses though; had one for about 3 months once and didn't enjoy the experience at all... But having said that, I absolutely love listing to someone like Steve Lawson play one - it's really amazing how creative it can be in the hands of the right bassist.
  15. That's an absolute bargain!! GLWTS
  16. Thanks Paddy And ditto is all I can say to that... 😊 All the best Nik
  17. The bass sounds great to me... 😊 Like the sound of the band too! GLWTS
  18. Just sold an Ampeg 210 cab to Paddy (via Facebook of all places..). Lovely bloke, great comms and he's a absolute pleasure to deal with.. Got to say a good word too about Paddy's son Dan who came to collect the cab this evening.. He's definitely a chip off the old block as he was equally easy going and pleasant to deal with! So, am happy to highly recommended Paddy (and sons) to everyone here in Basschat.. 😊 Thanks Paddy and hope that you enjoy the cab ! Nik
  19. ** Now SOLD** Thanks for looking! 😊 Hi Folks Excellent condition PeaveyMiniMAX™ 500w lightweight Class D bass amp for sale at £SOLD. I bought this from @mxm (Matthew) back in the summer as a back up, but to be honest, I haven't been using it at all, so it's time to move it on. This comes boxed with the Peavey carry case and all the inserts that came with it when it was bought new in Dec 2017. It's a feature-rich piece of kit IMO; built-in tuner, loads of tonal options, very lightweight at 5lbs and very loud indeed.. it certainly holds its own with my Hartke LH500! This has classic bomb-proof Peavey build quality, and stays ultra-cool no matter how long you use it for and that's because of the fan inside it which is on all the time and is, for some people, a bit noisy. It didn't trouble me but I know that it's a deal-breaker for some.. Anyway, here's the official Peavey blurb: https://peavey.com/products/index.cfm/item/659/118756 And here's a really informative 41 page thread about the MiniMAX on Talkbass, which I promise you, is not Fake News!: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/peavey-mini-max-head-thread.1050697/ And here's a Basschat thread about the amp: httpsw.basschat.co.uk/topic/285506-nad-peavey-minimax-500-watt-bass-amplifier-head-review/?tab=comments#comment-3055963 Happy to ship within the UK via insured/tracked courier, and anyone who's near to Littlehampton in West Sussex would be very welcome to come and give it a try! Tea/Coffee/Biscuits available of course, along with very friendly Cockerpoo puppy who will demand all if your attention! 😊 Any questions, please ask away here or PM me. Thanks for looking. Nik
