  1. Wow! That was a surprise as I've had quite a few PMs already about this.. So, just to say that yes, I'm happy to post the head at buyer's expense, but only if it's a fully insured service - it's too risky otherwise.
  2. ^^ I've no problem with shipping gear abroad, but only if it's a fully insured service.. It costs that bit more, but it's just too risky otherwise. PM me if you'd like any other info..
  3. Hi Folks Markbass LM3 now SOLD. I'm sure most people know the spec already, but just to say that it's a 500 watt, 4ohm Class D bass amp that weighs less than most multi FX units! ☺ I bought it from Herman on here in January to use as my back up, but as my other gear isn't selling so easily, I figure I should try to see if there's any love for this little design marvel of the modern bass world.. Suffice to say it's in excellent condition and excellent working order and was PAT tested in May this year. Hardly used barring a few rehearsals and a one-off local festival in June, at which I think our very own Linus27 made good use of it with his band. Pictures to follow later this evening. Any questions, please PM me and thanks for looking. Nik
  4. Thanks ☺ You're absolutely right about the build quality of these cabs. When taking photos of it before putting it up for sale here, I noticed that the speaker cable used internally is the same kind I use for my hifi at home - real top-notch stuff! As can be seen in this photo.. which confirms not only how good the cable is but also what a geek I am.. 😁
  5. Agree with the pick vs finger style idea.. I'd also like to hear something on or like; a) applying some fundamental music theory, e.g. modes/scales, into a gigging band situation b) playing fretless bass (or Db) c) Top 10 gigging tips for weekend warriors Having said that, there's so many good ideas around already, it'll be great !
  6. Cheers Greg! ☺ It is fabulous and I can only imagine how it would sound through that Boogie 412.. Must admit to being very torn about this amp ... it works so well in my band, and is only just shaded by my Ampeg V4BH.
  7. Absolute bargain for a cab of this quality! GLWTS
  8. The clue's in the name of the band, Jack... 😉
  9. A 'Something for the Weekend' type of BUMP ! Still here and open to a sensible offer (or two).. ☺
  10. A 'Something for the Weekend' type of BUMP ! Still here and open to a sensible offer (or two).. ☺
  11. Great idea! Looking forward to the first one. ☺ Once it's up and running, can I suggest that we link this idea to the various regional Bass Bashes, where there will be opportunities to get some fantastic content for the podcasts. For example, the SE Bash has had so many good workshops and guest speakers over the years, much of which would have made for interesting and relevant podcast material...
  12. No problem.. Maybe you should check out this, though admittedly it's not a 4 ohm cab:
  13. I know the market is slow on here right now, possibly the slowest it's been for years, but I am just amazed that this bass is still here! So have a BUMP on me for a high quality British-made, boutique, super-Jazz 5er for only £700. GLWTS
  14. Great thread ☺ and yeah, I love counter-intuitive stuff like this! Totally agree with lots of the above comments; having spent a lot of time in recording studios over the years, the sounds that work in a studio mix are never what we think they are when we hear them solo. That's why I'm not generally a fan of that hifi and scooped mids bass tone that's been quite popular and prevalent in recent years - though obviously, in some contexts, it can work really well. These days, I use more overdriven bass sounds than I've ever done before, and find they work better in almost every context I've used them in , whether that's playing out and out rock tunes, or Steely Dan stuff, Joni Mitchell tunes, hip-hop style basslines etc, etc..
  15. I'm sure that Paul Herman at Wal could advise on the ease, or not, of fitting an additional pick up in the bridge position, and making space for additional controls. This bass is probably fabulous sounding as it is, but I'm sure it would be even more tonally versatile and interesting with a Wal bridge pick up fitted. And with current prices being what they are for second hand Wals, it could be a relatively straightforward way to get a twin pick-up vintage Wal at a not too crazy price.? Lovely old basses these Pro models btw - I've had a fair few over the years! GLWTS
  16. Thanks and I definitely second that about the owners at Gibson! It is a much nicer bass than I thought actually but you're right about how they are under-rated - even here on Basschat I think. In the last year, I've completely changed my views on Gibson basses and now use a 2004 Thunderbird for almost all my gigs/rehearsals as it plays like a dream and sounds incredible. This EB5 may not be quite in that class, but it's definitely no slouch and to my ears at least, has a lot of tonal options available with the coil-taps for each pick up. Oh, I forgot to mention in my OP that I had the bass set up recently by Graham Wheeler, an excellent local luthier here in West Sussex and it has a very nice low action now and plays very evenly across the whole fretboard.
  17. Yep! Leigh Gorman - amazingly talented producer, musician and bass player in particular
  18. Now SOLD - thanks for the interest Hi Folks For sale only is my Gibson EB5 5 String Bass (120th Anniversary model, 2014), which comes with the original Gibson case & case candy, plus a really luxurious Gibson leather strap. Now SOLD I bought this from Hamster (one of Basschat's finest I have to say ) about 6 months ago and have only used it for just a couple of rehearsals in that time. Here's what he had to say about the bass in his ad, and I hope he won't mind me quoting him because it sums up the bass really well...: "...Made in USA, passive and versatile. Feels really light on the strap - 8lb 12oz. Bought on a whim, used less than 6 times so virtually as new with case and case candy." I bought the bass because I'd started using Gibson & Thunderbird style basses in the last year as they seem to fit my band's music really well, so figured it'd be cool to try a Gibson 5 string, especially with it being a 34" scale 5 string.. . And although a little sceptical at first having always used Fender or Fender style 5ers, I wasn't disappointed when I got this one because it is really light and for a passive bass, it's tonally very versatile. It's also a very comfortable fit being a 34" neck. YouTube Clips: In terms of tone, these are the YouTube clips that persuaded me to give this bass a try and the Billy Fuller one especially is worth watching just to see how a bass demo should be done IMHO! : Gibson says:- Five-String EB Bass Gibson’s EB bass has been a trusted favorite of rock, blues and pop players since the early ’60s, so it’s only natural that this legendary Gibson four-string should form the foundation of a remarkably versatile new five-string. The Five-String EB Bass from Gibson USA morphs the original EB’s SG-inspired body into a rounder offset-double-cutaway design crafted from premium tonewood, yielding supreme playing comfort coupled with greatly enhanced resonance and sustain. Add a pair of newly designed EB Bass pickups with push-pull coil taps and a rock-solid Babicz™ Full Contact® bridge, and the Five-String EB Bass is ready to lay down the rumble or purr with sweetness—and anything in between. It looks great, too, in your choice of Vintage Gloss Natural or Vintage Gloss Fireburst, in genuine nitrocellulose lacquer, with unique tortoiseshell pickguard. Play it—and feel it—now at your authorized Gibson USA dealer. Body and Neck The Five-String EB Bass’s massive foundation lies in its solid Grade-A ash body and glued-in maple neck. Ash has long been respected for its open, resonant tone, and lends itself perfectly to a rich, versatile-voiced bass. A glued-in solid Grade-A maple neck adds punch and clarity, while adding superb playability with its rounded profile that measures 0.800” at the 1st fret and 0.900” at the 12th. Its unbound genuine rosewood fingerboard follows the full 34” scale length, and carries 20 medium jumbo frets, all easily reached by the playing hand thanks to the Five-String EB Bass’s new offset double-cutaway styling. Up at the other end, a five-string take on the traditional Gibson headstock is backed by a subtle volute for added strength. Pickups and Electronics The Five-String EB Bass’s broad sonic range and gut-thumping power comes from an incredible pair of new EB Bass pickups designed by pickup specialist Jim DeCola. These units blend genuine Alnico V rod magnets with proprietary winding methods and other materials for an impressively versatile performance, taking you from thundering rumble to silky purr on demand. Blended as desired via independent volume controls and a master tone control, they’re wound for warmth and clarity in the neck position, and a hotter, punchier tone in the bridge position for maximum rumble—or blend infinitely at will to create your own sonic brew. And just pop up the push-pull switch on either pickup’s volume control for brighter, tighter single-coil sounds. Hardware and Plastics A sophisticated, highly engineered Babicz™ Full Contact® bass bridge feeds these incredible pickups with the optimum clarity and sustain, while being easily adjustable for perfect intonation—completing a new Five-String EB Bass that looks and feels entirely “classic,” yet offers a versatile contemporary performance that every modern bassist will appreciate. Quality Grover™ sealed-gear tuners provide optimum tuning efficiency. The Five-String EB Bass carries a stylish plastic tortoise pickguard, a traditional bell truss-rod cover, and black Top-Hat knobs with silver Volume and Tone inserts. Cases and Coverage Each Five-String EB Bass includes a Gibson hardshell case and owner’s manual, and is covered by Gibson’s Limited Lifetime Warranty and 24/7/365 Customer Service. Condition: The bass is in really superb condition but there is one quite nasty ding on the edge of the body, which you can see in the album of photos here. The case and strap are also in great condition. Selling because...: I'm selling only because of an imminent house move and car purchase and, because I have two other 5 string basses already which I want to keep for sentimental reasons as much as anything else, then this one has to go unfortunately. If that weren't the case, then I'd be more than happy to keep this because it's surprisingly nice & comfortable 5 string Bass. Price: In terms of price, I'm looking for £525 (or near offer) for the bass, case & strap, not including any postage costs. Other stuff: Viewings welcome if you're near enough to Littlehampton, West Sussex (tea/coffee/biscuits provided), and I'd also be happy to work something out about travelling if it's within a 50 mile radius.. I'm happy to post (for an additional cost) but there's always a risk with that which I'd prefer not to have to do if possible. Thanks for looking and if you need any more info, please PM me. I do have a feedback thread too, so please check that out if you don't know me and want to check out my credentials on Basschat.. Cheers Nik
