  1. Thanks for the positive words Chris - it really is a great sounding head. I was using it last night with my custom built Thunderbird and it sounded glorious with the overdrive channel set at about 9 o'clock.. It's one of the few amps I've played where the overdrive channel, if set right, actually sounds better than the clean channel.
  2. Had a few enquiries on the Big Block and a couple on the Berg, but nothing definite as yet.. So, it's a Wednesday evening BUMP for this high quality rig which I'm happy to sell as a whole, or as two separate items. Thanks for looking ☺
  3. Cheers Chris, In true Basschat tradition, I'm only looking to get back roughly what it owes me. To be honest, it's such a great sounding head, I wouldn't be too upset if it doesn't sell... Same is true of the Bergantino 212 as well. But like you, I've got too much gear at the moment! Nik
  4. Beautiful mojo in that 'Ray, Chris! Love the backplate with the previous owner's social security number etched in - it was obviously a keeper, or meant to be.. I had a '78 Stingrays about 20 odd years ago, which I eventually sold to Martin Petersen at The Gallery. It was one of the most naturally resonant basses I've ever owned - harmonics would just ring for days.. Might just be me looking back with rose tinted glasses, but IMO, there was just something very special about that early Leo Fender Stingrays compared to the Ernie Ball era models (of which I owned a few). Anyway, GLWTS ☺
  5. Thanks... This one is a K series, which according to this wiki dates it at 1990-91: http://www.squierwiki.com/Serial-Number-Tracking
  6. Now SOLD - thanks for looking. Hi Folks For sale only is my 1990-91 MiJ Squier Precision Bass, which comes with a tatty, but functional hard Fender case. SOLD I bought this from PawelG about this time last year and have used it for just a couple of gigs and a few rehearsals in that time. Here's what he had to say about the bass in his ad, and I hope he won't mind me quoting him because he summed up the bass really well...: "So, this Precision is as good as my 1983 JV. The pickups seem a bit ''hotter'', there is A LOT of bottom end and the sound is very woody. Come and hear it for yourself if you can... The bass is in great condition, has been used a lot but cared for. Usual marks here and there, nothing major. The frets might need polishing in the near(ish) future. Frets 1 to 7 have marks on them already, the rest is almost perfect. Action is really low and there is no buzz anywhere. Currently strung with flatwound D'Addario Chromes. I tried to picture all the imperfections, please message me if you need any more detail. Comes with a Fender strap, real celluloid 62PB pickguard and a spare white pickguard. Weight is just under 4kg/8.8lb. Nut width - 40mm. " I bought the bass partly to scratch that 'I really must have a P Bass' itch that I get every couple of years, and to be honest, I wasn't disappointed when I got this one; if you're into that Motown thump and James Jamerson tone, then this is perfect for that. As Pawel said, it's got a great, warm, woody tone, it plays really well, looks very cool with plenty of mojo and is nice and light - perfect for long gigs! And because I've hardly used it in the time I've had it, it's still in exactly the same condition that Pawel described it as being. I'm selling only because I need to find some funds for a new car and if that weren't the case, then I'd be more than happy to keep this because it's really nice P Bass. And just to explain why I'm selling when it's such a good bass - It's because I'm primarily using Thunderbird basses in my main gigging band now, and I also have a BC Rich Eagle that gets used a lot (and which I couldn't ever part with), so my gigging needs are well catered for. Hence this beauty being up for sale! In terms of price, I'm looking for £330 (or near offer) for the bass & case, not including any postage costs. Viewings are very welcome if you're near enough to me in Littlehampton, West Sussex (tea/coffee/biscuits provided of course), and I'd also be happy to work something out about travelling if it's within a 50 mile radius.. I'm happy to post (for an additional cost) but there's always a risk with that which I'd prefer not to have to do if possible. Anyway, thanks for looking and if you need any more info, please ask away here or PM me. By the way, I do have a feedback thread too, so please check that out if you don't know me and want to check out my credentials on Basschat.. Cheers Nik
  7. Hello Mods I've just realised that I've posted this in the wrong Forum - doh! Only been posting on here since 2007... Please can you move it to the correct Forum. Thank you kindly, Homer
  8. Now Withdrawn Hi Folks Now withdrawn: Mesa Boogie Big Block 750 amp (rackmount version), which comes with the mute/channel switching footswitch and a 4U rack case with rack draw, power cable and Speakon to Speakon cable. I bought this from Dvisions just before the New Year and have used it for just a handful of gigs in that time. Price is £500 or near offer and considering these were almost £1700 new when they came out about 10 years ago,and this includes the footswitch and rack case, I think it's a pretty fair price. It's working perfectly and is a very powerful, high quality US built amp with a wide array of tonal options. IMO, the Big Block is capable of delivering volume in spades, with a powerful and easy to use e.q. section (especially the mids) and when needed, a more gritty and overdriven sound if you need it. The Big Block didn't have a footswitch when I bought it so I sourced a Mesa Boogie Lonestar footswitch that does the job of remotely changing channels between clean and overdriven, and also the mute function. It's really handy to have that functionality in a gigging situation... If I've attached the right photos, then you should be able to see the footswitch operating the mute function and the channel switching.. I've also used the photo that Dvisions used in his for sale ad, so i hope he won't mind me doing that.. There's loads of really helpful reviews and stuff on Google, YouTube, Talkbass etc about this amp but suffice to say, if you want to get more info on it, it's definitely out there! Here's a few interesting YouTube links: This is my favourite - this guy is awesome! And though Mesa get associated with Rock music, here's a more funky exponent bigging up Boogie gear : And yet another funky Big Block user: Only selling because a) I'm using my Ampeg amp & cabs more, b) imminent house purchase is straining the finances somewhat and c) I've just had to buy a new car. So, something has had to give, hence this being up for sale. As stated, I need to raise funds so I'm not looking for trades at this time, sorry. Viewings welcome if you're near Littlehampton, West Sussex (tea/coffee/biscuits provided). Happy to work something out about travelling if it's within a 50 mile radius.. I've posted large amps before (for an additional cost) and could be persuaded to do so again, but there's always a risk with that which I'd prefer not to have to do if possible. Thanks for looking and if you need more info, please PM me. I do have a feedback thread too, so please check that out if you don't know me and want to check out my credentials on Basschat.. Cheers Nik
  9. This is such a cool looking 5 string bass; I keep coming back to look at it even though I've absolutely no need for it. GLWTS
  10. Your last paragraph sums it up really well, Chris. Most venues hire covers bands to entertain the audience so they'll stay in the venue and keep drinking. It's really that simple. The trick I guess is to find a covers band that plays to roughly the same level that you do, where you enjoy the company of your fellow band members, and where the set list follows the 80/20 rule, i.e. you like and enjoy playing about 80% of the set list. Having said that - and putting all reasonableness aside - I will take extreme (and violent measures if necessary 😁) to veto any attempt to cover Jamiroquai- crap tunes by any band I play in.
  11. I think many of us on here will agree with this Mick; it's something that's very true of myself, that's for sure.. I remember playing some of your very fine basses a year or so ago, when I came over to check out a Trace cab you were selling at the time, and - no disrespect to your other basses - but the VC was head and shoulders above all of them - it was that good!
  12. And you try telling the kids of today that, and they won't believe you! 😁 http://youtu.be/ue7wM0QC5LE
  13. Yep! Mind you, with it being a very hot bank holiday weekend with busy roads, family commitments etc, maybe it was just not so easy to get together even at such a bargain price?
  14. Have a BUMP on me.. These are seriously good basses!
  15. That's fabulous! ☺ You really do have some amazing vintage gear... GLWTS
