SE Bass Bash 2017 - with Steve Lawson and Davey Rimmer
silverfoxnik replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in Events
Quick bit of news on Workshops... With a bit of help from Gary, a.k.a. cetera, I'm really pleased to say that Davey Rimmer (bassist for Uriah Heep) has stepped up and will give a 45 minute presentation on his career, gear choices, life on the road, Uriah Heep, Trevor Bolder etc and - if we ask him nicely - will maybe demonstrate a few tunes.... Thanks Gary and Davey - absolutely brilliant! I think I finally understand Radiohead
silverfoxnik replied to BassAgent's topic in General Discussion
Just watched on BBC2 the first half dozen songs from the their set tonight at Glastonbury and I had to turn it off.. If that's really the best band of the last 25 years, and OK, Computer is the best album ever (well, according to NME it is), then something has gone wrong with rock & roll and the music tastes of the great British public IMHO. I find the band - and Thom Yorke in particular - utterly lacking in stage presence and charisma, his voice whiny and indistinct and their songs completely devoid of memorable melodies and lyrics that actually say anything. Probably says more about me and my old-fart tastes and attitudes and I know I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I think early 70s prog bands were more innovative musically, artists like Bowie were more interesting and thought-provoking lyrically and Jeff Buckley had by far the better falsetto voice for me of those type of singers in the 90s.. Having said all that, I thought their first two albums had so much promise and by far, their best songs. -
How about a 'heft' workshop ;-) An explanation of - What it is A demo of amps that certainly have it A demo of amps that say they have it A demo of amps that dont actually have it....... A demo of amps that have it and you can carry easily A demo of amps that have it but you need a roadie to carry and then the same for people that have a different idea of what it is Sort of 'the definitive heft' thread acted out with real stuff :-) ps that started off a bit tongue in cheek but maybe its an idea?
Great idea! 😊 Any ideas on who could/would run it? Personally, I'd nominate chimike for this task, but he'll probably kill me for suggesting it! Mike....? -

Hi Folks, I think the phrase is 'better late than never', so without further ado, here are the rather sketchy details for the 11[sup]th[/sup] Basschat South East Bass Bash!! South East Bass Bash No.10, Surrey, Saturday 24th September 2016
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Hi Folks Sorry - only just seen this... There's been a bereavement in the family so other than having a very cursory look at the site (usually the For Sale threads), I've not been paying too much attention any where else... So, just to say that the above comments are correct in that we don't know for definite whether or not we can use the site that we've been using for the last 9 years, and it is linked to the fact that Hamster (Colin) is no longer the premises manager at the school. But, Colin has been in touch with the Business Manager at the school to see if we can use it again this year and we are waiting for their answer. We should know soon (one way or another) and at that point we can either set a date for the Bash in the normal place or hunt around for somewhere new. My personal view is that the excellent facilities of the school combined with it's location with good transport links has helped make the SE Bash what it is, so if we can retain the school, I'm very keen to do so..
Great basses, and Pete's a gent.
+1 I bought one of these about 10 years ago from Pete and it was a beautiful bass; LPB, passive and Fralin p/ups IIRC. Looking back, it was definitely one of those basses I wish I'd not sold. At the time, Pete personally delivered it to me in Guildford, at was was then the first ever South East Bash! Happy days..😊 So, buy/deal with Pete in absolute confidence folks.. GLWTS
