Got to say as well, that this amp coupled with the SWR Triad that I'm selling, was my main gig rig for the last 5 or 6 years and although heavy to carry around, it sounded bloody marvellous in most of the local venues I played in. I took it to Germany last year for a festival and it was great there too..

Very true John! This amp has outperformed every other amp I've had over the last 12 years (bar the Ampeg V4BH I bought from The Beedster), including Eden, Markbass, TE, TechAmp and most recently, a Thunderfunk 550, which I know you rate very highly. It's also the most well made amp I've had too. If I wasn't moving house soon and didn't need the space, I'd probably keep this.

Bands you adore that no one else has ever heard of...
silverfoxnik replied to TrevorR's topic in General Discussion
Great thread this and good to see some love on here for The Monochrome Set and for Andy Warren, who I used to also enjoy watching as a player when he was in the early incarnation of Adam & The Ants, circa 1977. Pleasantly surprised also to see The God Machine mentioned, whom my ex-wife used to manage back in the early 90s. Our son Jimmy is named after their bass player, Jimmy Fernandez who sadly died of a brain hemorrhage, which brought the band's career to a stop far too soon! These days my musical tastes have mellowed somewhat, and one band I absolutely love are The Mummers. If you like Bacharach, Carole King, Scott Walker, Todd Rundgren etc, then you should like this band. Sorry; not sure how to properly embed YouTube videos on the site, especially when using my mobile. (EDIT by Rich: knock the 's' off the 'https' and use [ media ] tags) -
*** WITHDRAWN *** Hi Folks Continuing my new year clear-out, here's another favourite piece of kit of mine; it's my Hughes and Kettner Bassbase 600 bass amp, which comes with the all-important Footswitch and a 3U Stagg rack case to transport it around in. I bought this here on Basschat from dougal back in 2010 I believe, and have used it consistently ever since, and it's done over 250 gigs in that time and never let me down. It's only ever given me great tone, a lot of power and plenty of headroom! The other great thing about this amp, is that it covers just about everything that you need, having two separate EQ channels, a tube pre-amp which really does add some grind to your tone if you want it, blendable FX channel, notch filter, bi-amp facility, DI and tuner out, separate headphone volume control and a mute switch - it really is quite brilliant! Apart from one technical issue which i'm going to detail below, it's in excellent working condition and I'm looking for £195 or near offer for the amp, footswitch and rack case. By the way, the tube in it is the original Hughes & Kettner supplied 12AX7. On/off switch As I say, the amp is working perfectly, but just recently the on/off switch has stopped working so that it's set to a permanent 'on' setting. I've got round this by plugging the power lead into an extension cable that has it's own on/off switch, and that allows me to control switching the amp on and off safely. I'm not sure how much this would cost to fix, but I'm estimating £40 and have taken that into account when setting the selling price, which is as follows: Amp = £160 Footswitch = £30 Rack Case = £30 If the switch was working, then I'd have priced the amp at about £200 Photos Links See here for more info: Manual: https://medias.audio...nual-473007.pdf Video: A German retailer's video about the amp: http://www.youtube.c...d&v=OGq3XaR6kWs Footswitch When I bought the amp, it didn't have what they call the Bassbase stageboard for switching between EQ channels, activating FX loop etc, so I bought another almost identical Hughes & Kettner footswitch, and had it modified to work with this amp and it's great because it gives you even more versatility. This cost me about £45 to do in total, being £15 for the switch on Ebay and £30 to get it modified by my local tech. Hi Folks Like most of my bass gear, I bought these two JBL 12" cabinets here on Basschat! I got them from one of our resident speaker cab design experts, Stevie, who I hope won't mind if I use some of the original text from his ad of 4 years ago... I bought them to put together a cheap, lightweight rig but I haven't used them for over a year now, so it's time to move them on. I'm looking for £25 o.n.o. for each cab, not including p&p.. Description So, this is a pair of JBL bass cabinets originally designed to take the JBL 2206 600W driver but they will take other drivers as well. Most of them were used in installs as far as I know. These can, of course, be used for PA but actually make a nice single 12 or 2 x 12 bass system for someone prepared to fit a suitable 12" driver which really isn't to difficult a job. They’re fitted with banana inputs and Speakons. These are compact and fairly lightweight cabs (about 10kg) and I used them with this driver: http://www.lean-busi...ujaYaAl4H8P8HAQ And, used with a Yamaha BT500h digiatl Class D head, it made for a really good and relatively inexpensive lightweight rig! Viewings welcome if you'd like to see them first and I m happy to ship securely at your expense.. Any questions, please ask here or PM me.. Not sure how it would compare to a Goliath 410, but the 15" driver in the Triad gives a distinct 'thump' to the low end in my view, that is quite different to that of a 410. Having said that, the 10" driver and the horn provide articulation and a sweet top end, so it's definitely produces a full range sound. Here's what I said above about the Triad and a Barefaced 212: "Sound-wise, if you look on the internet, the jury's out about full-range bass cabs but for me, I've found the Triad to be a very versatile cab, capable of delivering fantastic lows with quite an articulate mid-range and a sweet top end. I remember Alex Claber A/B-ing his prototype Super 12T against this cab at one of the Bashes about 4 or 5 years ago, and although the Super 12T was capable of taking more power (and it's a lot lighter obviously), the sound of the two cabs side by side was actually quite similar - something Alex commented on at the time.." Hope that helps. 😊

*** NOW SOLD - Thanks for looking! *** Hi Folks After having owned this cab for 18 months or so now, I've decided to put it up for sale for: £140.00 o.n.o. plus p&p. History I bought it on here from BTGAndy in 2015 at the South East Bass Bush because I've always loved the sound of these cabs! So much so in fact, that I bought this at the same time as I had my original Triad (which I'd had since 2007). Anyway, as is so often the case, GAS got the better of me and right after buying this, I bought a beautiful Ampeg V4BH rig, with a 115 from The Beedster, and I've been gigging that pretty much exclusively ever since. So, I've only used this Triad about 3 times in anger since I bought it And, much as I love the sound of these cabs, it's time to move it on because (i) I've got too many cabs anyway, and (ii) I've just bought a TechAmp 115 out of necessity because my back's been playing up.. So a lightweight cab has become an absolute essential.. Condition, photos In terms of condition, it's pretty good - say a 7.5/10 and the cover's in OK condition too.. Sound Sound-wise, if you look on the internet, the jury's out about full-range bass cabs but for me, I've found the Triad to be a very versatile cab, capable of delivering fantastic lows with quite an articulate mid-range and a sweet top end. I remember Alex Claber A/B-ing his prototype Super 12T against this cab at one of the Bashes about 4 or 5 years ago, and although the Super 12T was capable of taking more power (and it's a lot lighter obviously), the sound of the two cabs side by side was actually quite similar - something Alex commented on at the time.. Here's a review posted on Musician's Friend some years ago: "I've been gigging with the SWR Triad cabinet for exactly 10 years this month. It's been through all sorts of music to include acoustic world type music to heavy progressive. This is the clearest sounding cabinet I have ever heard. You will hear every nuance across the frequency spectrum." (http://www.musicians...-speaker-system) Spec 4-ohm, 400W, 3-way speaker enclosure featuring a 15" woofer, 10" mid driver, and tweeter. The SWR Triad gets full range clarity like no other audio speaker system. 23"W x 27"H x 18.5"D. 80 lbs. Features

Bottom slot port
Spring-loaded rubber grip handles
Black Ozite carpeting with stack lock corners
Chrome-stamped steel vibration-free grill
High-quality metal input panel with heavy-duty attenuator
1/4" in/out and Speakon jacks
Weight The Triad is not light; it weighs in at approx. 80lbs, so it's not the lightest cab that's ever been built... but because it has really strong handles on the side of it, I found that with a bit of practice and either a decent trolley or castors, it's been manageable for me. Trades, shipping etc Just to clarify that I'm not looking for any trades on this thanks. Viewings welcome if you'd like to hear it first and I m happy to ship it at your expense.. Any questions, please ask here or PM me.. Thanks for looking! Nik

** SOLD EBS Octabass MK1 Pedal, True By Pass ** SOLD
silverfoxnik posted a topic in Effects For Sale
*** Now SOLD *** Hi Folks This EBS Octabass Pedal is the first item of quite a few items that I'm going to be putting up for sale over the next few days. Now SOLD. Bought on here a year or so ago, it's in perfect working order and sounds great! Only problem is, I'm not using it because I tend to always use the octave patch in my Zoom B3 out of convenience... Anyway, it is in cosmetically good order, and it sounds great - way, way better than the octave patch in my Zoom B3. Oh, and it is true by pass. It doesn't come with the original box, or the PSU I'm afraid, hence why it's priced at £50 delivered to your door! Just to say that I'm not looking for any trades on this at the moment - thanks. If you've any questions, please send me a PM or ask away here. Thanks for looking! Nik -

Looks like a great event shaping up! -
Just bought a TechAmp 115 cab from Gareth. Apart from the cab being really good - exactly as he described it (and more in fact), it's always a pleasure dealing with Gareth because he really knows his stuff when it comes to basses and bass gear and you can count on the fact that the gear he's selling has always been really well looked after! Add to that his excellent comms, all-round friendly vibes and his long-standing reputation here on Basschat as one of the 'good guys'; trust me when I say that dealing with Gareth is always a positive experience. And to paraphrase him, he's a Basschat legend and highly recommended! What more could you ask for? Thanks Gareth! 😊
-
Thanks for the very kind words Gareth, I am 'blushing'... 😊 Am just about to reciprocate on your feedback thread. Just to say that cab is exactly as you described thank you; very lightweight, and a very sweet tone indeed! Nik

What bass do you regret selling? Was it love?
silverfoxnik replied to vinorange's topic in General Discussion
I've regretted selling quite a few of my old basses over the years; My first Rick 4001 I traded for a P Bass in 1982, which I then sold - I regret both those going! But there's been so many other basses that have come and gone since then, I've kind of lost count (or I'm going senile a tad earlier than expected). Time to make a list I think...?? On the plus side, I'm really happy with the basses I have now, so maybe it's not all too bad! 😀
