Taxpayers money and music education
silverfoxnik replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I'm with rushbo, molan, ambient and TrevorR on this...and Mr Winston Churchill too. In my opinion, learning how to play an instrument, collaborate with others in playing and performing music, developing your communication and interpersonal skills - whilst having a great time doing it and gaining a better sense of self-esteem in the process - are invaluable life lessons and experiences that stand you in good stead for the rest of your life! My only negative thought about this initiative is the amount of money involved ; it'd produce much better long-term outcomes if they would put 5 or 10 times the amount of money into it. -
Yes, another legend gone. 2017 please be kinder. R.I.P.
+1 Another unique voice gone... Just too many this year.

Yep, we're all different.. Personally, I think she's astonishingly brilliant and unique as a songwriter, singer and performer and that her contribution to British music will stand the test of time. Hounds of Love and Aerial are two works of absolute genius IMHO, and both albums formed the basis of her 'Before the Dawn' live show that I was privileged enough to see two years ago, and I'm hoping that the live CD she's just released will be as fabulous as the show itself was.
"Time" - again the lyrics are almost unbearably true - how did Waters at 28 when he wrote it, understand so well how it feels when one is 60? It is going to be played at my funeral, in the Gilmour "Live at Gdansk" version - that guitar solo is again almost unbearably poignant. I can only listen to it once a year at most, headphones clamped on and weeping.
My sentiments exactly... The lyrics astonish me every time I hear them. And the original guitar solo on the record is one of my favourite guitar solos ever.
6/8 Love the way it rolls along. It can be perfect for a ballad or rocking out. I also love the fact this is a genuine question / thead!
+1 Always loved 6/8
Dark Side's a masterpiece - a band at the point where all their planets lined up.
+1 I love DSOTM, but Wish You Were here is also a real favourite..

Hi Pawel, Welcome to Basschat - glad to see you made it! You'll find this a great place to get help and support with bass related stuff, from like minded people.. The only downside is that once you start looking in the various For Sale forums, you may never find inner-peace and contentment with your gear again!! Nik
Thanks for the crash course in MK - very much appreciated.
+1 Really enjoyed this thread and it's completely opened up my eyes (or is that ears) to how creative a bassist MK was.

I love it, and would play more than I get to these days if I could.

What was the first bass you had GAS for?
Black Rickenbacker 4001.
+1 That was my dream bass back in 1977... -
Quite, but if you got ripped off / had a really bad experience with a sale / purchase, wouldn't it have been nice to be aware of any potential risks before entering into it? It'd be no good if you posted about your displeasure afterwards and then 10 members reply saying yeah, I had the same problem with him / her. Feedback makes up a part of what we call the Basschat community doesn't it?
+1 Thats my view exactly ; what's the point of having this bass community if we don't share our experiences for the benefit of others?
Nope, its kept at the workshop for YOU to try out... Listen to my voice... you are feeling sleepy... you are feeling sleepy... you want to buy a Mk3... you want to buy a Mk 3...
Excellent -
I've noticed this lately too.. I always try to remember to leave feedback, but don't worry too much if it's not reciprocated when I do - who knows what people have got going on in their lives at any particular time? Having said that, I think the idea of everyone having a feedback thread is an important aspect of what makes buying /selling on here work so well. Especially now there are so many Basschat members compared to the early days of the Forum.

Why is Music addicted to Bass - BBC podcast
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
Interesting listen Nick with very little reference to modern rock/pop (I don't recall a bass guitar being mentioned). It concentrates on the physics of sound and importance of the bass part in the development of music. This, however, may describe my playing better...😉 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5C7VQGPHs31YJPPYfLP3X81/when-does-noise-become-music
Thanks.. The Noise article is really interesting too. Listened to the podcast in the end and really enjoyed it. As you say, the section on the physics of sound was quite amazing. There's clearly a lot more to the role of the bass in music than I ever thought! -

Just wondering if anyone has seen/heard this yet before I put aside some time to listen to it? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07vwg5w The first 30 seconds or sound promising, but I always worry when journalists who are supposed to be informing and/or educating us use a generic term like 'Rock' and then play a disco song, in this case 'Another One Bites The Dust'.
