  1. I don’t think Bill Wyman did too badly out of just standing there and not smiling..... (saved his energy for “off the stage”, maybe?)
  2. As Ronnie Corbett said....”I know my place”
  3. We normally get the set list on Saturday, or Friday at the earliest, with keys chords and words. We meet around 8.45 for a 10.30 service start, so plenty of time for rehearsal, and some fellowship. We use iPads while we are playing, so key changes aren’t a problem.
  4. We use OnSongs, which make it easy to change key. Last Sunday we tried one of the songs in 3 different keys before we found the one the WL was happy with....
  5. Haha.. we only have one new song this Sunday, hopefully I can at least find a chord chart, fortunately there are YouTube performances on line. This will be the first time I’ve been in a band with this Sunday’s worship leader, so that’s another unknown. Our Church has recently employed a new worship leader, to start on 1st March, so I expect more new songs before long!
  6. Status Quo at Wembley Arena in the 90s. Our seats wer fairly well back and high on the side, I could feel the sound hitting my chest. Didn’t put me off though, I went back a few days later, a friend finished up with a spare ticket.........
  7. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark Merseybeats
  8. Very stripped back band this morning, just keys, acoustic guitar/backing vocal, bass (me) and leader-vocals.
  9. Any chance of a pic with the strap laid out, please, HJ? Thanks
  10. Beatles/Orbison etc tour in Nottingham in the ‘60s. I forget which was headlining by then, as the order changed part way through the tour.....
  11. I just use the same wax as I use on my cars. Currently G3 Super Paste wax. I have also used the likes of Pledge and various car ‘quick detailers’. However, these contain silicon, so after reading this thread I think I will be claying my basses and cleaning them with a diluted water-based all-purpose cleaner, before re-applying the wax. Gives me something to do in lockdown............
  12. That’s how we are, with a stripped back band, positioned well apart, just one vocalist, the rest of us masked up. All the other usual precautions are taken. It’s great to be playing live, of course, but as Richard said, we’re all wanting to lead a live congregation in worship again!
  13. I’m not sure lockdown has actually improved my bass playing, but it’s certainly opened my mind to playing styles of music I’ve not touched before. Doing ‘bass backing tracks’ searches on YouTube has kept me occupied for hours........
  14. Messing about on the river (Josh McCrae) again
  15. I heard a comment the other day, which while relating to Covid lockdown rules, is I believe also relevant to the likes of PAT testing... ”Don’t think what you CAN do, rather what you SHOULD do”.
  16. I restrict myself to 3 basses, so if I buy one, I sell one. The first gear I sold was my lovely red silk drum kit, in 1968, because I’d been in the RAF for two years by then, with no foreseeable chance of using it again, and it was taking up room at my Mum’s......
  17. You’ve been watching our church band, except not ‘held up’ but hidden as much as possible, so only the band can see them.
  18. I use an old 60w Tramp OHM keyboard amp, it handles as much bass as I want to put through it at home, but it also is happy with the range of the YouTube tracks I’m putting through the second input. TBH, I also use it to drive the lecky drum kit if I’m not in a “bass” mood......
  19. Fingers almost exclusively, but I also use my index finger as a pick, ie finger and thumb together as if holding a plectrum, and striking the string (with the finger nail side) rather than plucking it. I first started this years ago when I was playing guitar and dropped my last plectrum through the sound hole while on stage, so just had to go for it, found it worked for me, so continued......
  20. American family band ‘The Petersens’. https://YouTube.be/viQx4KDivPY Edit ; the link goes to more than Jolene. 🙁
