  1. A bit before my time but fairly sure labella flats were around then , didn’t James jamerson use them at Motown records
  2. I’ve still got my Washburn force 4, it’s a great bass, extremely low action and a fairly flat fingerboard, and it rarely goes out of tune, I really should play it more, it’s got some punch especially on the bass control , I might have to have a play tomorrow now you’ve reminded me about it 🙂
  3. I’ve been following Linval Thompson since the early 80s , and he’s still got it, he’s about 66 now, there’s some nice bass playing here at sunsplash 2019, looks like the bass player is playing a Marcus Miller jazz through an Ampeg rig (not sure who he is). , can’t stop natty dread again at 21.08 sounds great

    Jazz

    Fender basses: '66 / '68 / '69 / '72 / '73 / '77 / '78 / '79 , that’s a great collection blyn, which one would you say is your favourite 🙂
  5. One thing that helped me massively with understanding the setting up was doing a few builds for fun, the first was a Mexican jazz, I completely stripped it and changed the colour and neck, then upgraded all the parts , it gave me a good insight into how it was put together, I had to look up quite a few things like shimming and pickup heights, but it was an enjoyable experience and a good learning curve 🙂
  6. For me , the neck profile and shape makes the biggest difference, if I don’t like the feel of it I don’t buy it and I almost know instantly whether it’s for me or not , as far as the sound goes, the choice of strings can make a massive difference ,it took me a long while and a lot of money to find my ideal string, and also a good setup to your preference can make a bass feel totally different , I used to pay for my basses to be setup and I always had to make further adjustments, so I now set them up myself 🙂
  7. I find the first fret quite easy to reach 😁
  8. Fret the first and second finger then move slightly up the neck and fret the third and fourth, it’s less stretching
  9. Yeah, I liked the look of it and I remembered that it wasn’t that big , I know @wateroftyne has or had one, perhaps he could help 🙂
  10. A friend of mine has one and he plays the same as me, reggae/dub, it sounds great and does the lows really well
  11. What about the Handbox WB100, I very nearly bought one a while back, it looks great ,the dimensions are WxHxD- 460x185x340(mm)
  12. They did a blonde finish on the 70s jazzes and it was special order, so I’m guessing the option was also available on the Precision
  13. It’s interesting to see what settings you use , and it depends on what I’m playing, I’ve been playing a lot of dub lately, this is the setting I’ve found hits the sweet spot, that’s with a us jazz with neck pickup on full and the bridge 75% and the tone off
  14. The new single from Eek a mouse , after listening to it a few times I’m liking it
  15. I fitted Tonerider pickups in one of my P’s last summer with a kiogon loom, I went with them because the reviews said they have more of a vintage sound and slightly more lows , and I would say it’s very true, I think it would pair well with TI flats, I’ve got LTF flats and it sounds great, you’re welcome to borrow my P if you want to try it Paul
  16. You take them off, I’ve never heard of leaving them on, as far as I know they are just there for identification, plus you need good contact with the bridge, great strings btw, most of my basses have them
  17. Some great pictures here of Bunny Wailer https://www.theguardian.com/music/gallery/2021/mar/03/reggae-legend-bunny-wailer-a-life-in-pictures
  18. Have you thought about the markbass heads I’ve had quite a few and they are good, there’s a nice LM lll 500 in the for sale ads (nothing to do with me) 🙂
  19. Sorry Bassadder, I forgot, you started the RM thread 🙄😁
  20. I can recommend the RM500, they are really light and loud, there’s a thread on RM’s if you wanted to have a read up 🙂
