I play sitting and standing, and when sitting my strap is the same position/height as when I’m standing, i don’t think it’s the bass i would say it’s your posture, and it could also be that your maybe tensing your right shoulder, relax and find a comfortable position 🙂

I know exactly what you mean, it’s the same for me, most of the videos I’ve seen seem to focus on the distortion, I’ve seen Robbie Shakespeare , Devon Bradshaw and many other reggae bassists getting a nice deep warm tone from Ampeg setups . I’m following this thread with interest 🙂

I was just looking for another video and came across this one I had saved from about 3 years ago because I liked the tone and playing

I structure my practice time by writing down what I’m working on at the time, and I break it down into sections like, modes and scales 15 minutes , pentatonics 15 minutes, speed exercises 15 minutes etc, if I find any weaknesses I increase the time each day until I’m happy, for me it’s important to write everything down otherwise I just end up noodling and learning nothing 🙂
