I can’t say I knew that one , but I was in an East London sound system called excelsior chant , and a few of the members went on to play with jah Shaka .

I’ve still go this on vinyl, I bought it from a reggae music stall in petticoat lane when it came out, it was roundabout the time I bought this 🙂

I’ve still got my first bass , a Jedson bought in 1977 from a friend, so it’s older than that, and it still works although the jack socket is a bit crackly, it just hangs on the wall of my summerhouse now 😁

Hi jamm, If this is the knobs you are talking about, I drilled a small hole and screwed a small Allen key screw in and they worked fine 🙂

I’ve stripped a few of my bass bodies with the heat gun for refinishing, it’s definitely the right tool, as long as you don’t scorch it , any pics @buff

A couple of Friday tunes from my all time favourite band ,who I’ve seen many times , and the first is a great Bassline from Robbie ☝️

That’s a great solution , I did that to one of my P basses once, it works perfect 👍

I put strat knobs on one of my jazzes, and the knobs were too small for the shaft, so I enlarged the hole with a drill bit and put an Allen key screw in to grip the smooth shaft

Yeah definitely thunderbird, I can’t remember which brand they were now but I didn’t buy them again, there’s a thread on here somewhere about silks, I’ll see if I can find it ☝️

I know certain brands use them for identification, and I think the silks help to grip the tuning peg and prevent them from slipping, also I’m pretty sure the silk is wound into flats to prevent them from unwinding, and on a few occasions I’ve had them go over the bridge saddle and I’ve had to trim them back a bit, which is not good . 🙂

I bought a us jazz that had heavy flats on , and I fitted smaller 45-105 strings with no problem, once they are under tension they seem to be alright. -
