The estate they lived on had a sizeable West Indian population, and everywhere we went we’d hear reggae and dub coming out of the houses and flats. Of course as an eight year old boy I didn’t know what dub reggae was, but I remember loving how it sounded. I had no clue what I was hearing, no idea what bass was but I remember how it seemed to travel through the air and through the ground. Years later I started listening to Culture, King Tubby, Burning Spear, and many more, all of which I still love, so I guess it must’ve all sunk in!
This sounds very similar to me as a kid , only I was on a council estate in east London, great story, thanks for sharing BrunoBass 🙂

The first time I tried fender flats they felt a bit grippy (if that’s a word) out of the packet , but it wore off in a few days 🙂

eBay and screwfix also do various size aluminium tool boxes which you could add your own size foam to , I’ve got one with my router in they are quite robust 🙂https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F152951894863

I’d say Robbie Shakespeare was the biggest inspiration to me after seeing him play live in the early 80s , I was playing blues at the time but after hearing the rhythm and drive of heavy reggae I just knew it was for me , and I haven’t stopped playing reggae since 🙂

Newbie question: What exactly do the fretwraps do?
They help to mute the open strings and stop the overtones 🙂

Spot on!
His thumb technique looks like a carbon copy of Larry Graham's thumb -- but I kinda think he was even better than Larry!? 😮 🤐
The guy is so funky 👍

I’ve seen chrome paint in car spares shops, but I don’t know how good it is, also they do chrome paint in modelling shops , which you could try on an offcut of metal to see if it’s any good 🙂

There’s a few exercises here that may help , it’s mainly the little finger he’s talking about but it covers all of them really 🙂

For me it has to be my fretwraps, I first bought one thinking they were a bit of a gimmick, but I now have one on every bass 🙂
