  1. I always use headphones, I find I can hear the bass clearer  as opposed to listening through speakers , and  I can also hear small pickup notes and mutes which i may otherwise miss . Also if the track is on YT  and has a difficult section, I slow down the playback speed until I’ve got all the notes  and  just keep playing it until I’ve got it  down 😀

    . . . . and don't forget Laskys.

I used to go to laskys in Tottenham Court Road every Saturday in my hifi days , you could test out all their separate amps and cabs in their sound room, great shop 🙂

I really have struck gold with the band I'm currently in. It's Mod/Northern Soul/Ska so plenty of The Who, The Jam, Specials, Toots, etc and most Northern Soul has great basslines. The band actually want to the bass to be upfront in the mix as well. In 'The Real Me' I was told "more overdrive and louder".

    Happy Days.

That sounds like a really good variety of music to play , I would definitely go to see a band playing this 😀

Working on Chords/Inversions and Walking Basslines, well that's my new years resolution lol.

I found walking basslines so enjoyable and I got some great lines together really quick , I also found them exceptionally good practice for mastering the fingerboard, and there’s so much you can add to them yourself, it was time well spent for me 😀

  5. The bass is definitely an addiction for me, when I’m not playing I’m thinking of Basslines or listening to music to find new ones to play or reading bass books, I have books or tabs in my car , van , on my office desk and at home on the sofa and when I’m not doing all of these ,  I’m on basschat of course 😀

My "one that got away" eventually did end up with me, just 11 years later! I spotted a unique solid white Status S2 Classic headless for sale on Leftybass.com, with the white epoxy Roman numeral fret markers of the John Entwistle Buzzard model. I'd never seen another one like it, and despite never having played a Status before, I had to have it! But I was too late, it had just been sold to someone in the US.

Just before the summer of 2017, 11 years later, it popped back up for sale. In Israel this time! The guy bought it through Leftybass.com when he was studying abroad in the US. He already had a potential buyer, but the guy kept doubting and asking for more pictures. Finally the bass was sold to me, and I've been hooked to Status Graphite ever since.

Being the sort of person that sits and thinks about this sort of crap, I'd say yes, although so small it's negligible.

The strings are constantly trying to pull the head and bridge together. If a bass is stood on something, stand, floor whatever, then the bottom is supported and gravity will help the head move towards the bridge under string tension. If the bass is hung then the head is supported and gravity (the weight of the body) will help resist the pull of the strings.

Very basically, if stood gravity tries to compress your bass, if hung gravity tries to stretch your bass. String tension tries to compress your bass and anything to counteract this has to be good, no?

In reality the forces are so small it's not worth worrying about, but that's the way I see it.

I agree, in theory the weight of the body should keep the neck straight because when it’s hanging the weight is at the bottom

  8. Most of mine hang on the wall and have always been fine ,I’ve a few in cases , and a few on a rack, I’ve found the worst thing for them is temperature change, I keep an old fender jazz bass in my summerhouse which gets cooler at night and always needs re tuning so the neck definitely moves.
