  1. I have flats on 7 of my jazzes and rounds on my p basses , I prefer the feel and the mellowed sound of the flats for reggae , but a few months ago I put  a set of  Picato halfround 45- 100   on a jazz and the sound is great  they have a smooth feel , no fret noise , but the clarity of rounds, I took the mids down on my amp and still got nice deep lows ,  really nice tone 😀

I think to me this order is pretty accurate, but I disagree on the bridge and electronics part. Though not as important as your top 5, I think these do matter a lot.

Different bridges will alter the tone of an instrument. When I changed the standard bent-plate bridge of my Jazz Bass to a Badass II, it changed the tone dramatically. The bass' tone brightened up a lot, with tighter lows and more harmonics.

Many active circuits will colour your tone even when set to flat. Not dramatically, but noticably. Again from personal experience: when I changed the passive electronics in that same Jazz Bass to an Audere JZ3 onboard preamp, I loved it at first. Loads of tonal possibilities, and the impedance switch seemed like fun. But within weeks I found it wasn't for me, up to the point that I wasn't playing that particular bass anymore, even though it had always been a favourite. I changed it back to mostly passive, with just a switchable bass boost, and it's perfect for me now! It's mostly just set-and-forget for me, and if it gets overly finicky or doesn't sound the way I want to, it gets in the way of my playing and I lose interest in the instrument.

LeftyJ  how did you fit a switchable bass boost to a passive jazz, I like this idea 🙂

Not sure where you are based, or what you're after but there's also East Coast Music, Hornchurch Rd. DV247, Chesham Close (off North St) and Drum City, High Street. I can't vouch for any of these places, but I often drive passed them. There are probably others?:)

Yeah  DV247 I found really good, I tried the fender  jb elite in there really nice guys . .   ,apart from the ones you mentioned there’s not much else , I quite like Andy Baxter but he’s a touch pricey

    PMT can be very variable.

I've had both good and diabolical service in the Romford branch.

They sold me a Warwick and were very accommodating.

Some time later, I asked to try a (Korean) Burns, but even when tuned, the strings lay flat against the frets (!) I asked if it could be set up, but the guy said "only if yer gonna buy it"

    So I walked.

I still find them very hit-and-miss, and I've had them be fine to me and rude to other customers. Weird.

I’ve had exactly the same experience in the Romford branch ,I don’t blame you for walking, you would think they would be accommodating to get the sale

It is a cheap Japanese copy, possibly a Hondo as the neck plate is smaller than a Fender one, it has had a truss rod cover on it and the bridge has screws at the front so it is definitely a low budget Japanese instrument and in it's current condition probably only worth a tenth of what it has been bid to.

I have messaged the seller, his feedback score suggests he has had issues before, I will see if I get a response and if not I will report it.

Yeah definitely now you’ve pointed it out 👍

Pity about the bass sound farting out in this vid, but....

Nice one earbrass ,that’s from the Sly and Robbie rare footage collection in Jamaica,   imo Robbie and family man are the best reggae bassists , I saw Robbie when he played with black  uhuru, 😀

Thanks Mr Reggaebass  so if you sell for £500 and use Paypal you end up with about £432 or thereabouts, does that sound about right ?

A work colleague is about to sell some gear on behalf of the parents of a recently deceased family member.

And I couldn't answer the question cos I've only ever bought stuff and never sold

    Thanks for your help

If you are in no rush to sell I would take mr Al Krows advice, eBay quite frequently do weekend offers where you pay less fees , they normally email you their deals , ,good luck with your sale 👍

Bought a few items on here with almost zero problems and a whole lot more on Ebay again with no problem at all.

Never sold a thing on Ebay however, so wondering what you would end up with if you sold a bass/ amp whatever for say £500 on Ebay.

I know Google exists  but I'd like to hear from the people on BC with actual experience of this. Thanks in advance

I’ve sold a few things in the past and I know eBay take 10% of the final selling price. they normally send you a message at the end of the month and if you use PayPal they take about 3.4% 😀
