  1. Much appreciated for the advice. I saw that mentioned before, but it appears to be a dead link. Is it the same for you? Yeah I will definitely try one of those next time. The only reason I didn't was because I like quite low action and I believe those are meant to be less tension!
  2. Thanks!! I agree. I've had a 1024 for a few years. Love the neck, love the P pickup but not the J so much. I like the generally traditional sound of the BPP34 a little more, just got to sort out the high end I think.
  3. Hey all, I finally pulled the trigger on a BBP34. I swapped the pickguard as you can see, as the creme original wasn't for me. Easily the best quality bass I've owned. It seems to have a lot of low and low mid presence, and not loads of high, at least with how its set-up. I'm still working on getting the recording tones I want. I've just put some DR lo-rider strings on and I'm on the fence at the moment, we'll see how they wear in. I think it had D'addario's on originally when purchased.
  4. I really like these comparisons, great presentation. I'm debating which DR set to try. I very well could be the only one, but I assume the order goes from left first and the colour change on the other set is a grey-out and not highlight. Is that right?
  5. Ah that's good to know that sound similar! I'm more into changing the bridge vol blend between songs, 25%, 75% are at least positions I would use on other basses. Yeah I hear you as much as I want to like the matt black finish (as they seem to pop up here more frequently), I vastly prefer the sunburst 734A! I'm currently thinking about swapping out my Aerodyne for a 734A. I like it, feels and sounds good, but it very often gets blown out of the water with the ballsy 1024, plus I prefer the neck of the yammy, I can move about much more with it. There's a couple of things stopping me from ordering a 734A right now: - The D and G strings seems a underwhelming on my 1024 compared to my Aerodyne. I've tried playing with the pickup height, but they have a lot of treble and lack bottom end character. Anyone else experience that on the 424/1024? The newer series might not have that issue...? - The neck of the newer 734 series is a little slimmer compared to the 1024. I prefer the slightly chunky neck of the 1024 (compared to the Aerodyne). Any ideas? It might well be a non-issue
  6. I'll join in! I have a 1024 Sunburst I'm still debating a 734a for mainly for the pickup blender.
  7. I found the Ultralites were a must on my 1024. The balance was the achilles heel on an otherwise amazing bass, I went for the clover keys and thought they were enough of a weight saving to suit me YMMV. I've been umming and arrghing over a 734a or Bbp34 since they came out. Can anyone please tell me how they compare? I've looked high and LOW! In theory they have the same pickups, but with the YouTube videos I've been obsessing over, the passive tone does seem fairly different, though I haven't found a direct comparison. The Bbp34 seems smoother and less aggressive, but it's not always easy to tell whether videos are recorded passive or active. Cheers!
  8. Hi! I figure I've lurked long enough ... and bought enough things from the marketplace Basschat is a great source of knowledge and intrigue, I usually catch-up daily! I've been playing on and off for 20 years. I'm a fan of PJ basses. I currently have a Fender Aerodyne and a Yamaha 1024. I'm currently fighting 'lockdown GAS'! I'm on the look-out for a PJ with a chunky neck and blend-able controls! I've got a TC Electronic RH750 and TC 2x12 cab, but haven't as yet managed to get to sound as good as my first set-up; the Peavey IV Mark 6 coupled with a Marshall 4x10!! I'm based around the Greater Manchester area and end up doing small covers gigs up and around north of Manchester. Favourite players that come to mind are - Steve Harris, Tim Commerford, Flea, Chris Squire, Billy Gould Though I can also appreciate more pulled-back, in the pocket style players! Cheers
  9. I've been so tempted to do this recently, with a precision neck!
  10. Bought his TC Electronics RH750 + cab over the weekend. Paul was good enough to haul it half-way across the country and then go through all the functions & features. Great guy, very good communications. Would not hesitate buying from Paul in the future! Thanks!
