Cool clip! but couldn't hear the stick too well If you want to try my POD X3 LIVE you are welcome to nip over with your stick mate.
Ha, yeah I know - in the next few weeks I'm doing a play-along video for one of the tracks off the new Linear Sphere album so I'll be audible on that Yes please, that would be cool, let's arrange something when you're free.

Taper core nickel string recommendations please.

I use D'Addarios but have to order the tapered B separately. -
I'm intrigued by the Stick - I've seen the youtube stuff with Emmett Chapman, Rocket Scientists and Nick Beggs. It's just a lot of money to shell out to find that you're no good at it or don't have an affinity with it. Anybody in West/Central Scotland with one who would let me have a go?
I know what you mean - I bought mine from someone I was at college with so was lucky enough to try it out first and see if it was for me. You could try posting on http://www.Stickist.com/ to see if there's anyone local to you.
Bump! Calling Steve 'Stickman'!
You called? Yep, another Stick player here (and, probably not by coincidence, another King Crimson fan ). Mine's a 10-string in Baritone Melody tuning - I've played around with a couple of different tunings over the years including a Crafty-esque tuning a la Trey Gunn. I've been through various bits of gear effects/amp-wise over the years, normally involving some sort of POD (I'm currently thinking about getting an X3 Live purely for convenience). Here's a clip of me playing with Cynic, headlining Progpower in 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe32t3O16IQ
Reason being is my ongoing university project is a King Crimson tribute band... mental.
I'd be interested in hearing that!

A few words on the subject of professionalism

Some people seem to be taking this overly serious - it's just a few lines from one of Rollins' books/spoken word routines that some venue employee has copied out and posted up somewhere for a laugh... -
FWIW he could assume less about the individual reading the message and make the effort to learn how to spell dubious correctly.
Perhaps that should be directed at the person who actually typed out the quote and not Henry Rollins himself. -
As Kirky says it should be D♭ (C# is the enharmonic equivalent of D♭ but then that would be called an 'augmented unison' rather than a 'minor 2nd').

South East Bass Bash No.5, Surrey, Saturday 24th September 2011
Steve Woodcock replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
I'm a little late to the party on this, any car spaces from London still available? If I make it I guess I could bring the Stick if anyone is interested (will depend on whether I've had time to swap out a broken volume pot though). -

Hi folks, Using info from www.jazzstandards.com I've compiled a spreadsheet listing the 1,000 most popular standards together with which Real Books and Play-Alongs they can be found in. The books included are the Sher Music New Real Books, Real Easy Books and Standard Real Book, the Hal Leonard Real Books (US editions) and the Jamey Aebersold Play-Alongs. Attached are two versions of the spreadheet in pdf form (one by rank and one by title) as I couldn't attach the XL file. - if anyone would rather have that then PM me. I haven't checked through them yet so let me know if you spot any mistakes!
Hey, those of you that are listening to the playlist, check out Pastor T by Roy Hargrove. Great track! I especially like the drumming on it and the almost jamming vibe going on. The low key, minimal funk bass playing led me to think Pino was playing on it (I don't have any kind of personnel listing for the album)...but listening closely the other day I think it's a double bass now! When it breaks down near the middle I can hear some fingerboard growl and slap going on. Do you agree that it's double bass? The player isn't playing in a traditional double bass way - the line is punchy and aggressively on the 1 like an electric player. And if it is...that can't be Pino can it? I've never seen or heard of him playing upright. I'd be delighted if you say he does though!
There's electric bass in the left channel and double bass in the right; Reggie Washington is also on the album so I would say the double bass is him.
