Hey dood,
If you don't mind a guitarist's point of view give Dave Ray a shout - he has owned both in the past. We both loved the tones of the MP-1 back in the day but going back to it years later I think he found it somewhat lacking.
"Trigger finger" is the first thing that springs to my mind, was it anything like this?
Looking at your avatar there does seem to be tension from your right shoulder down to your hand when you are playing. As echoed above I would get anything looked at by a professional rather than risking permanent damage; from a playing/technique point of view however I would suggest shifting your bass more to the centre of your body rather than off to the right - this will enable you to drop your shoulder a bit and straighten that wrist.
Many thanks to sdgrsr400 and XB26354, problem solved!
Bilbo, I'm surprised this option was ever missing from Sibelius - I'd figured it was only missing from PrintMusic as an incentive to upgrade to the full version of Finale...
Hey folks, I have a small favour to ask of any Finale (pre v. 2010) users on here:
I am currently using PrintMusic 2009 and one of its most frustrating limitations is that it doesn't offer the option of x-noteheads - this makes it virtually useless for notating funk transcriptions! It will (apparently) display them OK if I were to open a Finale file with them on though... So, would someone be able to send me a Finale file containg some x-noteheads to see if I can then save it as a template please?
I was in a bookshop in Chiswick today ('Bookcase'?) and saw they had a few copies of two of Stuart Clayton's books - 'Styles' & '100 Tips' I think - plus one of Guthrie Govan's all going for the bargain price of £4.99 each so I thought I'd post a heads-up here for anyone that may be interested.
Given the sorry state of the £ at the moment can anybody suggest a good (i.e. cheap) place to source D'Addario tapered B strings - specifically XLB135Ts? Cheers.
do you know of any players that use fretless basses for heavier styles?i can only think of les claypool and steve di gorgio from the metal band death.
There's a few guys out there such as Jeroen Paul Thesseling on the new Obscura record, but the one to check out is definitely Sean Malone - and in particular anything from Focus by Cynic. I myself played fretless in a tech metal/fusion band called Linear Sphere.
Sonically, given the softer attack of a fretless you'll need a clear sound with prominent mids in order to 'cut through' heavy distorted guitars.
