We're vinyl lovers in this house, we invested in a decent system just as CDs were being released and have stuck with the medium throughout making further investments along the way. It was only very recently we bought our first CD player, 4-5 years ago? Now I admit our vinyl player is of a far higher quality than our CD player even though it was still quite expensive but vinyl has a big edge over listenability in my opinion as long as the vinyl is spotless (we have a record cleaning machine). There is also something more of an occasion to playing a record the set up, the album art, it's less so with a CD but not gone and let's face it the sound quality isn't bad at all with minimum fuss and it still gives that sense of ownership. Downloads, we did try but it seemed wrong somehow, download, click/play despite the excellent sound quality it feels disposable somehow. So are CDs going to become relics of the past? In 77 I was in a punk band and we played a venue that was expecting something a little different. Half way through the first song a few people got up and tried to throw us out with undue violence (read that as a mass invasion and an attempt to kill us) so I hit one of them with a brand new Les Paul and broke it, I also got arrested (and released later on). That was a bad reception and one that is always on my mind even now before a gig. I was very very frightened by that

Sorry for the delay, away the night. I was asking really about reinforcing rods in a wooden neck probably similar to a 4 string Jazz neck. It will be made from African Mahogany, in 5 laminates from quarter sawn timber which is currently resting after ripping down.

Sat in the van and killing time so time to ask this question: do you have an opinion on carbon reinforced necks? Lifeless, full of life, dark, bright? And anything else they may or not be aside from helping keep the neck more stable. Ive never played one and honestly have no idea but I’ve been considering putting them in my new build but I’d love to hear what you guys who may have used them have to say thanks

Thank you. I'm planing on cutting the binding rebate before gluing the neck in place (set neck). I had initially planed it to be a through neck but thankfully I discounted that and yes you're right it would have been a problem I hadn't considered. I had thought maybe to glue the neck after scraping the binding flush and after some sanding but before the final sand (sort of see what I think at the time. It's the very first Les Paul type guitar I've ever built so its an adventure I've settled on buying the Radian 3 flute rebate cutter set and see how it pans out, maybe even use a 3 ply white/black binding, I just don't know until I cut a couple of test pieces. At a push I might be able to put a wrap of masking tape on the guide bearing too if need be (not nice I know)

This whole tribute act argument bores me to death, what's the problem? If you don't like it move on to something you do like; if I stopped to add comment to everything I didn't like I'd be typing for the rest of my like and never get off page one, the sooner you grow up and get on with life the better. We're all different, accept it, don't make yourself look inadequate by trashing everything you don't like. Like it or lump it, the market for bands is driven by audience demand, if they don't want to see it they won't pay and hence you don't get the booking. The universal truth for any group of musicians is; if you want to get on you have to give the audience want to hear what you have to offer or make the audience want to hear what you have to offer and no amount of whining or whinging will ever change that Very sorry about that, one of the few things that annoy me are people who like to put others down in any way, why not try and make them smile for a change?

I play in a Banshees cover band, I won't say tribute even though we don't play anyone else's music, with the best will in the world I'm never going to pass for Steve Severin we don't try to emulate any particular members but do dress appropriately. It's all very simple stuff, a lot of fun to play and so far has gone down very well

An alternative approach is 2 MDF boards, with a partially pumped up bicycle inner tube folded up between them. You can tidy it up with a bit of edging around the bottom one to hide the tube as long as the top board fits inside without touching it.
