I think this used to be mine about 10 years ago (just checked - 2004)... there can't be many J5 Updates in that colour! A great bass. GLWTS.
Thanks. Maybe so. It was built in '98 and it's the only one I've seen in that colour with the black dots. I believe the previous owner had it for some years too.. They are really special, I will no doubt get another Celinder one day.. Nice one it's good to hear about it's (potential) history.

A very reluctant sale of my faithful and beautiful Celinder J Update 5. Very sought after for that super jazz/70's esq boutique tone and feel. I had an Alleva Coppolo LM5 which went out the door and this stayed. It's time now however, to move it on. This bass is slightly unique in my experience of Celinders 5's, in that it weighs 10.2 lbs (lightest one I have come across) and has a slimmer, faster neck profile than the standard you find on these basses. I have lived on this bass, it has been the main bass on the tours of 'Thriller Live' over the last three years. Totally dependable and sounds great in the mix. Even Chris C remarked on how different the neck was and how he remembers giving it more of that 'fast' feel when he built it. I have brought this bass up to spec, it had a John East when I bought it, which sounded great but yielded noise problems due to the unique design of these pickups and preamp. After much work and help from Chris Celinder, I tracked down a CP3a which is installed and sounding great. I do think I have some other pickups for the bass somewhere, they may even be single coils, which you are welcome to have, however I doubt they will work very well with this preamp.. Anyway, everything is now as it should be, and the sought after pickups and pre are reinstalled. SPEC: Body - Danish Ash, Cobalt Blue Neck - Maple (un-figured, more stable in my experience) Finger board - Maple, lacquered for 'that' 70's tone. Black dots. Pickups - Celinder Hum-Cancelling J bass Preamp - Celinder CP3a, with Dip Switches Scale length - 35" Weight - 10.2 lbs (on my digital scales) There's a small mark on the back of the neck, and a tiny bit of buckle rash you can just about make out above the cavity, and a mark on the top horn from before my time. Generally well looked after with a few marks and scratches over it's lifetime, see pictures. Note: The bass has slightly more purple in the colour than the pictures show, it's amazing how different it looks in different lights, however it's less 'blue' in the flesh, and slightly darker. *No case included. It came without one, if I need to ship or it's a deal breaker, then I might be able to sort something if we come to an agreement. THIS IS SALE ONLY PLEASE. NO TRADES. If you would like to know anything else then please feel free to PM me or Call me on 07719154668. Delivery/collection very preferable. Try out of course welcome at my house, again, get in touch. Thanks for looking - good home required! Cheers, Jo

Hi and thanks for taking a look at my post. I've recently moved to Stroud from London, and after a break from teaching due to being away a lot, I'm looking to take on students again. I'm an experienced professional player, done lots of different gigs, recordings and all the travelling that goes with it! Most recently I have been the chair holder on 'Thriller Live' on tour. I have a degree from Leeds college of Music and experience in teaching up to FE level, grade 8, and prepping people for degree courses and auditions. My approach to teaching is very open minded in terms of my students 'direction', my aim is to make all your decisions well informed and musical. I'm happy to do grades or more informal lessons. Mostly I have found my students just want to know more about what they are playing, their options, and search for more freedom on the instrument. I would always offer a no quibbles first lesson, and take it from there. Please feel free to get in touch or call me if you are thinking about bass lessons or would like any more information from me. Cheers and I look forward to hearing from you! Jo Phillpotts 07719154668

Bass sold almost instantly. Thanks for all PM's. Cheers! A reluctant sale of my rather nice Squire JV P bass. This bass dates from 1982, and is that classic 'Jamerson' /'62 spec that I was after when I got it. It's been used by me a fair bit, but mainly I play Jazz bass and have to play 5 a lot as I do shows so, needing some cash, I'm putting this up for sale.. Specs however obvious, are as follows: Scale length: 34" Fingerboard: Rosewood Body: Alder Tuners: Vintage/original reverse type Neck: Rock maple Pup: Lindy Fralin (fitted by me - it's amazing, original included in sale) Weight: around 8.5lb mark. It's VERY light. Can weigh on request if deal breaker. This bass suffered from a warped neck last year. After trying to get it set up nice and low, and not succeeding, I knew something was up. I took it to the Gallery who confirmed it had a 'back bow', and they heat treated it over the course of a week. The bass has travelled to Egypt, Europe, Scotland, Ireland, all over the UK and the neck has been absolutely stable ever since. I also fitted a Lindy Fralin pup (£120) which is creamy, growly and fat just as it should be, it sounds great. The original pup is fine and I will include in the sale. I also shielded the bass with copper tape in the cavity and behind the pick guard. SO basically I have spent a fait bit of money on it, but the market will of course only support the model and type of bass it is, so I'm asking for what I know to be a very fair price for a tip top JV. A few minor marks here and there, amazing condition for it's age. Bass is without a case, as it came without one. I do have an old hiscox which we could do a deal on if it needs to ship, but hopefully it's buyer will meet or collect it safely. Hope it goes to a good home and gets played a lot! Any questions please PM or call me 07719154668. Located in Stroud, Gloucestershire, but happy to travel if needed. Thanks a lot for looking, Cheers!

This looks like my old bass! Nice to see it again, I played it lots whilst I owned it. It's a solid thing, great, even string tension, fast neck and very comfy. Highly recommend checking this out if you're looking for a zero issues modern sounding J bass. Best of luck with the sale and give it a slap from me!!

Personally, I would go out there and play whats in stock with Custom Shop dealers. I'm quite reluctant these days to buy/order anything unseen based on what's written on the end of the piece of wood, but the CS stuff can vary widely, not just in tone, but in out of the box set up capability too. I have just sold my CS '64 Jazz which is a fantastic bass - exactly what CS guitars are supposed to be about. I played an identical one which sounded VERY different, and also had pretty horrendous action with the bridge almost slammed to the deck and the neck pretty straight.. I've played others too side by side, which were varied, as most basses are, but you get my point. Chiliwailer on here has lots of knowledge of where to go, and even the odd bass he may be able to find - he's pretty into the CS stuff. So you could pick his brains if nothing is out there at the moment. I know CODA music, stock CS stuff here, GuitarGuitar in Birmingham had loads of P basses when I went in there a few weeks ago and they have shops nation wide which they can ferry basses between if you are interested. I would go out and play what's on home soil, ready built and finished, and see if you can find what you are looking for. I wouldn't feel too confident ordering one to be built for me, but that's just my experience. Good luck in your hunt, they can be fantastic and the necks with the relic attention really feel amazing.
