fingerz replied to fingerz's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for the tip - when you say daughter board - is that located on the switch itself? I'm sure it'll all be clear when I get it off again. cheers. -

Replacement footswitch for EHX Bass Micro Synth
fingerz replied to fingerz's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi Paul, Thanks for the reply - it sounds like you are the man I need ! I have been in touch with EHX, and checked out different switches. It is a 3PDT switch, you're bang on. I'm not able to get a lot of time with the pedal at the moment, so it's tricky to take it apart for a photo - I'm hoping to get it off the board just to repair it ideally.. I had a look the other day when I tried to clean it. It has 6 tags on the under side (I imagine this is the 3PDT bit!). And a ribbon that connects it to the main board. I wonder how fiddly it is? I'm experienced with a soldering iron, and am hoping it's simply a case of disconnecting each tag and re-connecting the new switch making sure all corresponding points are on the right connection? A trip to Maplin (I don't rate their stuff but imagine a switch is a switch?), but happy to order better quality if it sorts me out. It's my job and I rely on my stuff so it needs to be right. Thanks in advance, lifesaver! : ) -
Hi guys, I need to replace this switch in my pedal, and it is in constant use at the moment. I wondered if anyone has done this and where you got it from/spec of the switch? Knowing EHX it probably isn't very standard! Thanks in advance.
Miss mine, looks a bit blue in my pic - but it was only white. https://instagram.com/p/zGiUhSOQaD/ I wonder how quick my house sale will go through
Looks nice Andy : ) I can never play with either ash tray on, wish I could looking at yours, they look so cool ! Mine can look blue too in certain lights, there's definitely a bit of blue in the finish I'm sure - it probably helps achieve that 'thick' /'powder' white that comes with an old nitro finish.
Wow, can't believe that you put this one up for sale mate. I know this bass well as I sold it to Jo, after it came to me on a p/x from a guy who was reverting back to P Basses. Simply put, it's a stunner and just as good as Jo says, not one aspect to fault at all in my opinion and fairly decent experience of Cistom Shops. The Custom Shop can sometimes produce basses that are purely average, this one is top notch. GLWTS Jo, someone is going to get a killer Jazz Bass.
Thanks mate. I know, me either, I bought it as a keeper. No matter how much I try, I guess I'm a 70's guy. It's such a great 60's spec/sound jazz.

NOW ON HOLD.... AND SOLD. PLEASE REMOVE. NOW REDUCED TO £1750.00 Custom Shop Olympic White 64 Jazz with Matching Headstock I've decided to put my absolutely stunning Custom Shop 64 Relic Jazz Bass up for sale. I bought this bass because it is one of the best jazzes I have played - I was looking for a vintage jazz at the time, but there were just too many bad ones around. I had played this bass when it was new, and when it came up second hand, I jumped at the chance to play it again and bought it within seconds of playing it! No dead spot, fantastic 60's tone, great weight, stunning looks. I have played a lot of CS jazzes too, this one is head and shoulders above the others I have played. Sets up amazingly, currently set nice and low with round wounds. Having done a lot of playing on her, which I have immensely enjoyed, I've come to the conclusion that I'm a 70's guy, and have decided to continue the hunt for a nice 70's jazz (eh?! Lol). Reluctantly deciding to part with this amazing bass, it really is a 'good one'. The great thing is, I feel as though I have owned a proper 60's jazz, so if that's where your sound and feel is, then this could be the one you have been looking for. Relic: As you can see the bass has medium relicing and wear. It's all 'original' as far as I'm aware. The best thing about these is the back of the neck, feels played in, smooth, and very much 'home'. Nitro lacquer throughout. Beautiful checking on the body, I don't know how they do it, but it's the real deal. Like I say, I really love this on the neck as it feels so good in the hand. Very thin finish throughout, no doubt gives it 'that' tone, and the woods will age really nicely. Weight: 9 lbs. Very comfortable. Comes with: All original case candy, ash trays, strap (unused), Lead (unused)., thumb rest, picks, manual etc etc Certificate of Authenticity Hard Case (original, as new) Strung with dunlop nickels 45/105 at the mo. (I preferred DR's but you can fit what you want!) I intend to remove the strap locks, and will re-install the original buttons **SALE ONLY, NO TRADES** Located in Bucks, I travel around so can meet if required/convenient, happy to have serious buyer round for a cuppa and a play on the bass if you'd like to try it. Thanks for looking.

Ditto the above point. If you have a CTS pot it can be stripped and cleaned which would probably resolve your problem, just be very careful not to damage the wiper inside the pot but it's not that easily done. Failing that stick a pot of equal value in there, easy job with a soldering iron. Let us know!

I would always get a tech to do it - it's one of those things I've never tried to do because I don't want to cause any damage that could be irreversible. I'll be interested to see how you get on if you do go for it.

Hello, Using the passive or active input on your amp shouldn't have any practical difference on tone, it's simply a level difference between the two. I had a very gentle active pre, and a j retro too which I always plugged through the passive input on my amp (Thunderfunk). If it was me, I would lower the gain of the pre, as mentioned above you will not have a huge difference in level then between active and passive (though there will always be some), and use the passive input with a touch more gain. The only case where you might find a difference is directly recording the bass or directly going into a PA where an engineer might request more output from you. In which case you could always turn up your Retro gain control. I think going past 70% gain is not the best idea with those pre amps from the comment above. Great Pre's and if you did have any direct questions, you could always ask John directly. He's a fountain of knowledge and happy to help people get the best out if his products.

I was at Daniels the other day and got to check out this bass. The whole bass oozes jazz bass goodness, from the looks and vintage appeal, through to the tone, playability and feel of the neck. It has a warm, mellow tone, very 60's and old school. Had to give it a bump and recommend checking it out if you like a nice jazz and a good cup of tea ; )

I've just put a deposit down on a Custom Shop '64 relic Jazz bass from Dan. I would like to highly recommend Dan as someone who is knowledgeable, friendly and very up for accommodating your needs. I had seen this specific bass before and really liked it, so when it came up for sale on BC I decided I had to PM the seller. Messages were quickly responded to, very thorough, and interesting - no crazy opinions, just good bass 'geekery' back and forth which gave me loads of confidence. Dan offered me the opportunity to try out the bass under no obligation, and when I confirmed my visit he put the bass on hold for me until I had checked it out. It had flats fitted as advertised, I had mentioned I would always rather check out a bass with rounds on it - Dan fitted rounds for me just to try it out! How cool is that?! Very accommodating. I had a good feeling about that bass and it didn't disappoint. Suffice to say we agreed on a price and the deal was done. Dan took a deposit and I'm looking forward to picking up the bass next week. A top bloke, and very trustworthy seller. Highly recommended. Thanks Dan! Jo
