Hmmm, interesting, but what sort of people are they?

2.
Looks like a job for Captain JapCrap... :)

Cimar. Depends on the bass - got any pics or anything?

Cimar was associated with Ibanez in the late 70s & 80s, but the official line is that the "copy era" Cimars weren't connected to Hoshino (Ibanez's parent company) - and by the looks of them came from a different factory.

I had a 70s Cimar J, it was OK but not great, plywood body, quite a nice neck, round-end pups, 2 saddle bridge. It couldn't compete with my CSL Jazz (more on that later) so it went - as it happens a long-ago Bassworld member who went by the name of Bonzo ended up with it, he's still using it as a test-bed for various projects & modifications so it must have something!

Anyway, like most Jap brands from this era, they sold different spec versions of each instrument, so there will have been more "upmarket" variations available at the same time.

The CSL Jazz I have is identical to later Cimar Jazzes from about 1980, built at Fujigen Gakki, after Hoshino/Ibanez started using the brand:

Notice the Ibanez Blazer-shaped headstocks. If the Cimar you're looking at is one of these - go for it. My CSL Jazz is, I think, the one bass I'd rescue from a burning house - and that's a lot of other basses going up in smoke!

Cheers John!I knew I could rely upon your wisdom. The one I've spotted is overpriced but I'll take it on if I can ge the seller to drop a few quid from it. Its a real fixer upper so Im just buying it to keep me entertained in the evenings so I can tinker with it and try and restore it to its former glory, watch this space.

3.
Reet i have seen my dream Warwick 6 and must by all means have it.

so

Esp 6 string
active 3 band eq
really nice chunk of maple, flamed maple top with really nice 5 peice walnut and maple neck.
sounds ace, plays better than a lot of 6ers ive had in my time.
i bloody love it.
comes with the proper esp hardcase for it.

and

ibanez eda905
had it off ste_m3
its light comfy quite cool bass, sits really nice.
got peizos on the bridge with individual level pots round the back,
big p humbucker,2 vol pots,a mid sweep and a tone, they are a bit odd a first but sound really good.dimarzio strap locks too for jumping about or whatnot.
not everyones cup of tea, awesome neck, could do with a re fret and a tweak,i was going to defret it but the wood is too nice i thought.
truss cover is missing but i could get one made easy enough.
few little dings here and there nout silly.
really wide string spacing too, more like a four string.
oh and it has a 2 band parametric thing on the back too, like through the backplate with a little screwy.

im open to offers for either of them and knowing me ill end up considering a part ex but...
esp at 360 with the case and 160 for the ibanez.
if you reckon they are sh*te prices then say so please.

its not that 6 string corvette on the bay by any chance is it?

4.
im sure these aren't even based on the 51? they're based on the 70s telecaster basses aaren't they?

the thread title is advertising the wrong bass entirely - this isn't a fender precision. its a squier vintage modified precision tb. its not based on any bass made in 1951. so squier is the only bit thats not wrong.
+1

5. Right, so as some of you may know, I scored this little number for 50 quid http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110301756434

Picked it up this morning, took the neck off, gave it all a good clean and then put the neck back on. Its turned out to be a nice clean tidy bass, there are 2 cracks to the body however, one by the bridge, and one inbetween the bridge and the bridge pup, so I took the bridge and bridge pup off and thankfully the cracks arent deep and looks as though its just a deep crack in the paint work.
The sound is great! The neck pup is really chunky and the bridge pup nice and barky, the toggle switch between the two and the tone control lets me dial in some decent tones, all the electrics work fine, no crackles or hiss and the slap sound is awesome! The neck is straight and the action is nice and low and it plays very nicely indeed. The neck feels like a jazz bass neck.

This one is going to be my main workhorse for a while, all in all, great value for 50 quid :)

Will post up pics soon

6.
Time we had an update here!

Pre-copy era Japanese P-ish thing, Kawai or Teisco, prob'ly. I love some of the detail on this - the edge position markers & bridge cover:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=190259165449

Aria Cardinal, pretty transparent blue:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290268932649

Gherson TallyCrap P - maybe. Looks tidy anyway:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=120320213554

Aria Laser Heritage - incredibly crap listing means someone's going to get this for 99p, if they're lucky:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110301756434

I'm not entirely sure about this - but I think it's one of the recent reissued Kays, which were going for quite silly money in the US a few years back - either way, it's £50 BIN, if you can collect it:

I live round the corner from that guy selling the aria, I think I might have a bash on that one, shame I missed the other one too, I live close to him aswell, I might offer him the 50 quid he's after if he still has it

7.
I've had a couple of these. I'm in no fit state to be starting another project now, but always thought these bodies - which are incredibly solid, dense timber - would be a good basis for a P project with a better neck & hardware. I think you could easily enough plug the screwholes in the neck pocket & re-drill for a standard 4-screw plate.

Just out of curiosity Kev, do you have any sort of ballpark figure in mind?

Jon.
Not too sure of a ball park figure, if you fancy making an offer feel free, Im not expecting much, just want to clearout and make some space.

Kev

8. Next up is a Kay p bass neck and body project. Im selling these as I already have a fully working kay p bass and I may be getting another shortly, so I wont get around to doing anything with these. The neck and body fit together well and all screw holes line up, but I dont have the backplate so you'd have to get one made. The scratchplate is missing one screw, and it doesnt seem to screw into anything when I do put a screw in there. The body is solid and heavy and has its share of scars but no cracks anywhere and still has the original bridge. I dont know if the truss rod works on the neck, and I dont know how it all sits when its put together as Ive never had the backplate to find out. The neck still has the Bushels in the headstock and I'll put a new string tree on it aswell.
Feel free to make me an offer on the pair or if you just want the neck or body

9. Ok, first up, an OLP bass body in black. I picked this up months ago with the intention of salvaging the other parts (neck hardware, electrics) which I did, and the body went under the bed for a while. I did have the intention of stripping it and giving it a refin but I wont get around to it so perhaps someone here wants it? The paintwork is in bad shape, large chips of paint missing from it, and some sort of sticky residue is also on parts of it, looks like residue from some sort of tape or stickers. It has the back plate with 2 screws still in it. No chips to the actual wood itself just the paint work so strip off the paint and its good as new for a refin! Also comes with the bridge! say 30 quid including postage or make me an offer
