1. Lovely looking collection, Rob! Especially that sea foam green Attitude (I changed my first post due to asking where the Attitude pics were about 5 secs before you put them up!) Rich.
2. I got my Streamline today courtesy of Vern on Statii.com. Set it up identically to my walnut S2 (to the mm!) with a new set of hotwire 30-90's & it's fantastic. Took it to rehearsal this evening & it's got some real balls to it. Very comfortable to play for a long time as well, due to the dramatically reduced weight. Playing wise, the instrument doesn't end up being as far across to the right of your body as a KingBass does. That way it feels more like a wingless S2 to play. Sound-wise it's a lot sweeter than I expected, too. I was expecting the all-graphite construction to sound a lot gritter, but nope, it's almost as sweet sounding as my no.1 bass. I'm impressed! Rich.
3. Ooh, that's a nice link, Nick. That's the Alembic I'd really like. Maybe one day! Streamline arrived today. It's fantastic. Now I've got it set up how I like it, it's very good. Very much like an S2 with a lot of wood missing. Sits on the strap nicely and sounds nicely gutteral!
4. Fender basses - I've tried to love them, bought about 5 of the things. Sold them all. Unresponsive, awkward to play & way behind the times. Seriously cool, though! People who call my basses, "guitars"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. Many people have answered the 2009 GAS thread, but I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed the sudden resurgence of not only trading on here, but the serious levels of post Xmas GAS people are having. I'm as guilty as anyone, having sold & delivered my Corvette $$ to vmaxblues, then buying a Status Streamline & a Groove 5, after only just taking delivery of another Status S2 from the factory! Is it the fact that no one buys us toys at Xmas anymore (now we're all adults), or are we just great big kids at heart? Rich.
6. LOL Martin! There's already a queue forming on that one, would you believe... It's only about a £350 saving on new as well!
7.
Well done brother! I bought a copy of the Perf. Musician mag today - great review on Myrt! Perhaps you should change your username to `Myrton'! Hehe! Another bass sold yesterday - so more in the pot of fundage!!!
Hey bro! Seems you're not the only one who invests all their spare fundage into instruments, LOL! Excellent news on the KB MK-II fund. Is it almost all there? Rich.
8.
That Streamlines gonna make you look like youve got a big gut you know!
Ah well, reality & all that, Martin!
Must admit the myrtle S2 is the only bass ive thought... i'll try a 5!
Yes, both my 5's have made people rethink their concepts of 5-stringers. The cocobolo one with the phenowood board converted Nick to 5's & me too, to be honest. I never got on with any 5's until the S2's.
9. It's coming tomorrow am via courier. I'll give play it at rehearsal tomorrow evening, then see where it goes from there...
10. LOL! Are you going to ebanol the fingerboard, then? My two latest... Status Streamline Status Groove 5 And a couple of "at home" pics of "Myrtle-Bass."
11. Peter, that is just stunning! I can only hope the sound and playability blow you away as much as the looks blow us away! Congrats Rich.
12. Wow, that was a big u-turn, Rob! Was the Vigier not floating your boat in the end? Really hope you enjoy the Attitude, though. Never been anything wrong with a good quality Yamaha!. Still love my TRB-6 even after two years. Continues to surpass even my high expectations! Rich.
13. Hehe, thanks for the extra picture of my new bass, Bruno! Rich
14. That's a really cool looking build! Just needs an ageing Fender decal now & nobody would look twice! Fantastic
15.
Have a look here for the Status catalogue page on the Groove. But if you're not wanting another MM type bass it's prob not for you There is a link somewhere to the old Status website with a little bit more info, but I can't find it right now
I think the "oldsite" has been taken down now, Martin. Pity, as it was an excellent resource if you new it was still there Rich.
16. The MIM Fender Jazz V is a really nice and comfortable neck, too. But I'd go with Merton's suggestion of the Groove 5. Really comfortable & as the man said, a helluva lot of bass for the money! Rich.
17. Hi everyone, one of my local schools (where I teach) has this laying around - See what you think! I've not seen a bullet in the flesh before... Does anyone have any idea of a valuation for this instrument?
18. They're not the same as the MIM vintage basses. These have the smaller & taller vintage tuning keys.
19. That American Precision is lovely. Yes, black & maple is definitely best. Is it an S1 model?
20. Yes, it's about time there was a Sadowsky thread. I'd still like one myself, but I'm becoming more and more one-branded these days! Could even be a worthy competitor to the mighty Status thread Rich.
21. Apart from being a ""Status Whore", I also have GAS for the diving girl in EBS_freak's avatar. Or is that something else??
22. Little bit of trading going on already at this end... Sold my Corvette $$ today & getting a Status Streamline this week. Should be picking up a Status Groove 5 at the weekend as well. Then I have to stop for a while as I've really got to get funds together for a new car this year! The good news here is that I'm really, really happy with my sound, hence more of the same incoming! The Blondie UK crew are bowled over with not only their new bass player, but with the Status/MarkBass sound. I did a nice jazz trio job the other evening & the Triumph upright (through the Roland basscube 100) seems to get better and better everytime I play it & also did a lot of bossanovas on my bolt-on S2 5-er. Nice! Only other thing I might go for is a Squier Classic Vibe jazz for a 70's show I've got in Feb. I'll probably get one, do the show & move it on afterwards. Rich.
23. It's well documented that I like new and shiny stuff, but I do like the idea of the delicate nitro finish Highway Ones. I've seen a few on TB where people have genuinely worn them in by playing. Some of them look really good & some have obviously been helped along the way more than a little! But the "road worn" series is a step too far IMHO. I'd like to gig some wear and tear on a nitro Fender, not have it done for me And my earlier comment stands - Please Fender, I know your instruments sell like hot cakes, but for gawd's sake, design something new!
24. Wow! Didn't think we'd see one of these for sale so soon. Bargain price as well!
25.
Your right Rich.... and I'd say they were even earlier than that..... I was working in a Music shop in Basildon, Essex when I left school around 85/86 and we took on the Hohner range.... I remember having a variety of Jack basses on the wall all different colours..... Think that's why I'm such a Status guy these days.... just loved the shape and the fact they were headless
Hi Jay, yes I remember I was at college & the launch of the Jack bass was in a magazine in the music department. I already knew I wanted a Status, but no way as a student could afford one, so the Jack was a more realistic prospect. I ordered one from Foulds Music in Derby within a couple of months. It was a great stepping stone to a "real" Status, which I achieved by 1990.
