1. I had one for my second ever bass. I saved up for it while at college & played it for a couple of years before I got into a lot of debt and bought my first Status at the age of 20. Mine was the reddish stain with the high gloss varnish, soapbars & 2-band eq with a little red led for power on/off to the preamp. Cool bass at the time! The only "history" I can find at the moment is that they were produced between 1990-2000 which is incorrect anyway, as I bought mine in about 1988!
2. LOL, Clauster! Yes, there's bound to be another $$ at some point! Rich.
3. Excellent, Paul. That'll give you more money for your gambling rush I wish I could be satisfied. I've just agreed to buy another £1000 bass!
4. I've played a Pace Jay & it was pretty nasty. A pupil of mine has just got the Stagg & I was really surprised. It's a really nice and well put together instrument. The only complaint I had was that it was pretty hard to get the body rests to fit. But apart from that I really liked the Stagg. Sounds excellent, too. Rich.
5. **NOW SOLD** Thanks for your interest! Here's my Warwick Corvette $$ in Nirvana Black. This is the second one of these I've had, but as per usual, something Status-shaped has cropped up, so this has to go! Price is £450 or nearest offer & I'll meet up halfway in the UK with the buyer. Comes complete with Dunlop/Warwick straplocks & the Warwick Rockbag super padded gigbag. Here are some extra pics from the previous owner...
6. That's a lovely B2. Never seen a white one before. Been chatting to the owner, Vern in the last couple of days. Seems he has an amazing collection over there. I may buy his Streamline... Now there's a thought!
7. Here's an attachment of the PDF version of the review for if anyone's having trouble with the tiny text!
8. Thanks guys. I took it on a gig & the sound is biblical, very similar to my walnut S2, but the trim pot needed a turn up as it was much quieter. All sorted now, anyway. One little note - Rob Green at Status does all his setups by feel. I measured the string height on both my 5-stringers & would you believe they're both exactly the same height to the millimetre, string for string! There's a craftsman who knows his stuff, eh? Played the bass again today at a rehearsal & the crystal clear sound with bucket loads of tone cut through just as it should. Nice!
9. I'd previously thought that they'd carry on with independant designs, but it seems without Ernie Ball they couldn't carry on. Pity, as the last generation of active Ray copies they made (MM22 & 32) were excellent basses. I almost bought one myself! Rich.
10. Hehe - Not a problem. I know that they are the equal of the hallowed Green machines, as Nick (DOTB) coverts them both equally Rich.
11. Hi Marty, you'll find your bass a lot easier to sell if you take some pics & put them up in your original post. Also, is your price in Euros? (This is mainly a UK-based site, you see.) Best regards, Rich.
12.
Status? peh!
Hey you - Don't diss the Status Gods, okay?
13. Hi Rob, As others have said, I'd keep your StingRay & get the Vigier. An old Ray is just going to feel like a less perfect & more worn version of a bass you already own & like a lot. The Vigier will take you to the next level of bass ownership. Perhaps you'll really like it & won't look back Rich.
14. I'd say that with a Stingray & a Status on board already, you're not going to be satisfied with the one-dimensional Precision bass sound. I've tried two & sold both of them very quickly. 1. Sterling 2. Jazz But that's just me talking. You have to play them & decide for yourself Rich.
15. Lovely Ray collection there, David - Nick, nice sales technique!
16. As crez5150 says, if you're playing a lot & you like the bright and zingy sound, you're going to need to change them more regularly. A lot of it is a trick on the ear as well. My small amp (Roland BassCube 100) has no hf horn so strings sound automatically duller, whereas my MarkBass rig has twin hf horn units so even when the strings are past their best, you still get a great top end sound. On average I tend to change mine after every 2-3 gigs, same as Jay. Rich.
17. Yes, they do 4-stringers. Look at the "Punk Bass" section.
18. I'd go for the new Squier 'Classic Vibe' 50's Precision in LPB over the others, personally. There's a video of a comparison here... The Squier is half the price of the others & has a more heavy set "high mass" bridge, too. See what you think to the video...
19. Hmmm... Poker, Paul? Naughty!
20. I'll personally vouch for Richard's honesty here - I bought my cocobolo Status S2-Classic 5-string from him. Excellent guy! Did this replace my old Precision, Rich? - The other Rich!
21. You all have to go have a look at www.krappyguitars.com They make you an instrument for around $200-$250 out of any used materials they can find! The company manifesto is very amusing! Rich.
22. Bass Collection. No contest. Just think of that cool P&J sound, 2 band active & thin 24 fret neck
