1. Yes, looks like either an early 50's Precision, or maybe one of the Japanese reissue '51s.
2. Just played Jaco's "Come On, Come Over." I really should be transcribing the 2nd Blondie set but I'll get on with that tomorrow...
3. How about something headless like the little Zon bass, Status Streamline, or Steinberger/Hohner? I know Rob Green designed the Streamline to be stowable in aircraft overhead lockers.
4. Luckily I didn't make any last year, but then again, looking at the list I made on the "result of 2008" it's probably a good thing!
5. Fish finger sandwiches? Now you're talking! Unfortunately I can't join the hung over fry-up club today, as I had to drive home 100 miles from a gig last night. So no alcohol for me, as per usual
6. As purplepea said, the Streamer is multi-laminated with a curved top, so it's more expensive to produce. They're both excellent basses, though. I have the Corvette version & it's output and sheer power are biblical. I actually sold my original one to fund a classic Status bass last year, but ended up buying another one as I missed it. Excellent all-rounder. Rich.
7.
Superbe! Happy new year Rich! The funds are building....!
Excellent Nick! Sounds like there'll be another KB Mk-II around these parts soon
8. Excellent choice of bass, Geoff! Looks stunning
9. Out with the rock trio in Nottinghamshire this evening. Still have jetlag, as I only got home from the USA yesterday am, but the money is good
10. That's a really striking bass you have there, Mike! Why did you go for the Delanos this time instead of the Nordstrand big singles?
11. Lovely looking bass - Should look good with your pointy-headed GA24 The Metro UV-70 in natural ash is my ideal Sadowsky, too. I keep looking at the 5-string one on the guitarguitar website! Maybe, maybe...
12. An interesting year here - Mainly trading of stuff to get what I really wanted. Some new things tried and sold on. Most interesting was the fact that after owning two of them, the KingBass wasn't really for me & I really missed the Corvette $$ so bought another one. 13. Large manufacturers like Fender are their own worst enemies, really. They've tried to make modern takes on the classic designs, like the 80's Elite basses & the 90's Zone basses, etc. But at the end of the day they're always going to follow the economic case & that's the simple point that many bass players are highly conservative & will stick with what they know, or variations thereof. So as long as people keep buying them, jazzes, precisions & mustangs will be the order of the day. Simple as that. The only way to change that is for people to stop buying them. Like that's going to happen!
14. For those of you who haven't been following the gragantuan Status thread, I've now sold my KingBass & replaced it with a lovely S2-Classic 5-string with a stunning myrtle-wood top. Here are the official pics from Status of the bass & a pic of me collecting it. Also, there's a review of the bass from Performing Musician Magazine (Jan 2009), a copy of which was very kindly sent to me by the magazine editor, as they had it on review the week before I bought it from the Status factory...
15. Just back from hols (BRRR! It's freezing!!!) & spotted your lovely new bass, Sarah. Hope you're loving it Rich.
16. As an early 2000s model I'd say about 1000 gbp, but don't worry. There are plenty of Status fans on here who'll be up for such a lovely bass. Rich.
17. That's a really nice looking instrument! I looked up the company when you mentioned you'd bought it yesterday, but couldn't find anything on the maker at all. Rich.
18. Jaco was quite simply the groove-master. No matter how fast or complex, he could keep a line going & going ad infinitum! He's particularly a favourite of drummers for precisely this reason. The only problem musically I find with his playing is that there's no gaps. No space for contemplation. You can't take it away from him, though. There'll never be another like him.
19. Sounds like you need to get out to the music stores & try some basses! My personal preference is active basses with soapbars or humbuckers. They just give you so many tonal options. Don't limit yourself to just precisions and jazzes. There's a lot more out there. I've had both of those designs & personally find them limiting at times.
20. The Sadowsky Preamp pedal/di or the new Aguilar Tone Hammer are other ways of doing it.
21. Three years' salary? World's your oyster, mate! World's your oyster!
22. Beautiful, Dave. Absolutely stunning! Rich.
